Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 114 Manga Review
フェアリーテイル 100年クエスト
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
Gray, in Juvia’s body, attempts to make use of her water magic in the same way that he would with his ice magic. His initial attempts aren’t that successful. However, eventually remembers that Juvia uses water attacks like a blade. Sai takes more damage than he wanted. As such, he decides to use a forbidden Weak Bond alchemy ability.
This turns Gray back into himself, as he views himself the weakest person in Fairy Tail. As such, he’s able to easily overcome Sai and destroy the gem sphere. Sai weakly calls for “God Brother.”
Elsewhere, Suzaku is down and Dogramag steps on his head. Dogramag insults Natsu’s ideology as Natsu isn’t pure human. Enraged, Natsu not only lands a hard punch, but Dogramag felt pain from the blow. Meanwhile, Selene keeps sending Fairy Tail members to destroy the orbs. Gajeel runs into Gold Owl “god”, Serena of the Eight Dragons.
Thoughts/Review:
Not going to lie, but this new alchemist guild stuff isn’t jazzing me. Maybe in an anime adaptation things would be fine, but for Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 114, it feels kinda tedious. Sure, there was a bit of humor as Gray’s main memory of Juvia is her obsession with him. And it is fun seeing him using her magic while in her form. It is also fun seeing Juvia’s reaction to having been Gray.
That aside, Gray dealt with Sai fairly quickly. Well, Sai was a low-level chump. However, the introduction of Serena is basically a way to delay the story. I’m going to guess, the other members of Fairy Tail will also run into Gold Owl members, who weren’t around when Fairy Tail and Diabolos arrives. That way, things can get REALLY dire for Natsu and Suzaku in their fight with Dogramag.
It is really a shame ’cause I did have a lot of fun watching the anime. Unfortunately, the popularity of the manga means that the writing has to slow down to keep things going. Inuyasha suffered from that. The original Fairy Tail suffered from this as well, though there, it was the sheer, overwhelming number of characters that had to be tracked. At least this time, the participant numbers are kept to a somewhat reasonable level.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
In the end, I’m not really jazzed about the Gold Owl alchemist guild. Thus Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 114 is kinda meh to me, more so because I see them as a way to stretch out the current arc even further.
“Unfortunately, the popularity of the manga means that the writing has to slow down to keep things going. Inuyasha suffered from that. The original Fairy Tail suffered from this as well, though there, it was the sheer, overwhelming number of characters that had to be tracked.”
This is one of my issues with One Piece. There’s just too many characters and not enough attention given to even some of the main ones as a result. It is possible to juggle numerous characters but it’s a tricky thing to do.
Having a giant cast really makes a story suffer. So in that regard, this iteration of Fairy Tail does work in that you just have the core folks, and then others cameo from time to time.
