Another Live-Action Anime Title — Bubblegum Crisis

The stream of live-action adaptations of anime titles continues, this time the old-school Bubblegum Crisis is on the table (Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 being the reboot, but I don’t think it is being considered).

Bubblegum Crisis
I knew of Bubblegum Crisis when I was in Japan and I’m sure saw a few episodes raw thanks to my buddy Robert. After I got into anime in 2002, I did watch Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 and loved it, so I went back to see the original Bubblegum Crisis and didn’t care for it so much story-wise.

Regardless, I’ll keep an eye open on this project because in the hands of good writers, it could be OK. I would rather have the 2040 story but the writers may decide to do their own. We’ll see.

I bet this sucks with only a $30-million budget and the Chinese government involved.

I dont want to sound pessimistic but there are only 30 million reasons to think this will sux big time…A decent Hollywood movie requires at least 100 million, considering this movie needs to have special fx for the action sequences…

Yeah, that low budget does scream major suckage, doesn’t it. *_*

    Robert Rodriguez, call your office.

Still, this has ‘train wreck’ written all over the place. Sad to say, I have more faith in the Cowboy Bebop live action movie than this.

Yeah, I kinda feel the same way. Ugh.

Don’t worry. I’m sure they’ll use Bubble Gum Crash as the basis for whatever plot they come up with.

(kidding, of course – at least I hope so)

Using 2032 as the basis for the plot makes a lot more sense given how… odd… much of the 2040 plot was (Boomers responding to mental waves? Quincy the mega-corp president as the biggest wimp ever? Normal worker boomers growing giant tongues? etc… ). There was a lot of really silly stuff in that series. The strangest that 2032 ever got was the “sexaroids as vampires” plot in one episode.

Now having said that, I have to agree with Toonleap that this is probably going to crash and burn – in part due to the budget.
