Anime Babes Over the Years

Anime Babes Over the Years

Hey gang! I finally managed to get my head above water, howbeit briefly. While taking a mental break, I was treated to a blog post from プリキュアの数字ブログ.  In it, there are two anime top five images. The first is the Animage Anime Grand Prix, showing the top five babes of every year from 1983 to 2015

Animage Anime Grand Prix

I’m not surprised to see Lum (Urusei Yatsura) in the top five for 1983-1986. My girl Yuri (Dirty Pair) was number 2 in 1985. I chuckle at seeing three Sailor Moon babes for 1992. I would have figured they could run the top five. 😉 Belldandy (Ah! My Goddess) naturally blows them away the next year, but then she’s blown away by Haruka (Sailor Moon). 😆

Anyway, it is fun seeing anime babes from series I’ve watched over the years. Sadly, as a reflection of how much anime I’ve yet to watch, there are many babes I’ve no clue who they are or what series they were in.

The next is the NewType Anime Award top five anime babes, covering years 2011 through 2016.

Funny how Mikoto (A Certain Magical Index/A Certain Scientific Railgun) is the only babe to show up in both lists.

Anyway, those who can read Japanese and understand more of what’s being discussed on the Japanese blog can let me know more in the comments.

Great to see how much of my favorites there… Especially Lina in ’97 (surprised to see Canal next year, didn’t think the Lost Universe had impact with the competition that year).
What made me chuckle, was after ’95-’97 Rei on the list, then after staight 10 years again 🙂

And sad but true, after 2000 I’m lost.
And a bit annoyed that none of the ARIA girls made it to the list. -_-

Lina Inverse is awesomeness. However, I never saw her as a hot babe, but that was just me.

I didn’t recognize Canal. Man, it has been years since I watched Lost Universe. I had to sell it years ago to pay bills.

      And I don’t even know who those girls are. ^_^;;;

Lacus Clyne from Gundam SEED was insanely popular. The sequel series Gundam SEED Destiny ended in 2005, yet she was #1 in 2006 and #3 in 2007. That’s one hell of an impact if she’s still ranking in the top 5 two years after the series she was in ended.

Also, I can’t believe a Ken Akamatsu fan failed to mention that Naru placed #3 in 2000. Shame on you, ANB. :p

But if I had to rank an all-time favorite anime & manga babes (and if we had to stick to original anime, not manga/LN/game adaptations), I’d have to say Ryoko from Tenchi Muyo would probably be my #1 pick. Not sure how I’d fill in the rest of my top 5, but Motoko Kusanagi, Rei Ayanami, Mizuho Kazami, and Evangeline McDowell would be definite candidates for the #2-5 spots.

I’ve yet to see Gundam SEED.

      Ha!ha! Pressed for time. 😉

I like Ryoko, but I never saw her as a babe. Weird, huh?

Maybe not the conventional feminin type, but that body, that voice (even in english 😀 ) and those eyes… hrrrmmm *_*
        (and the ears!!! :3)

As a character, I love Ryoko. But for whatever reason, none of the girls of TM!R were ones that made me go, “Whoa! She’s a babe.”

Maybe its me, but the babe progressively got younger or younger looking as the decades past.

It’s fun looking back through the years… seeing familiar faces, with the number thereof being a decent indicator when I was or wasn’t paying much attention. And quite a few faces that bug me either because I feel like I should know them, or because I draw an absolute blank. (^_~)

I’m kinda curious what the selection criteria were for the “contestants”, though. Some absences are (at least imo) so glaring that I wonder if industry politics came into play – the first & possibly most notable being Asuna from SAO.

Yeah, I’m not sure about the criteria either.

1995-1996 What wonderful pair of years!!! (And I’m old… damn….)

    Also…

    Well… There are more:
-Mikasa Ackerman from Shingeki no Kyojin
-That girl from Gintama (didn’t watch it, the one with orange hair and two black discs as hair ornaments)
    -Celty from Durarara

    >Rumiko Takahashi’s girls are always there, with the exception of Rinne’s girls….
    Interesting…

    >All Macross TV series have girls there with the exception of Delta…. GOOD.

    >CLAMP designs are always really popular…

    >Sakura Kinomoto is there as a kid and as an adolescent (Card Captor and Tsubasa).

    >Animage Anime Grand Prix lost me from 2010 onwards (I practically didn’t recognize anyone), and just from there I’m more familiar with the newtype list…. is that a coincidence? That in the moment one list avoids the things I watched other list that does appears….

    >I’m guessing, but in the 2016 the blonde girl must be the vampire girl from the long Monogatari series, as it is funny how they cropped the image because her name is so long (that was the only thing that hinted me on who she was): Kiss-Shot Acerola-Orion Heart-Under-Blade, or Shinobu Oshino as a little girl.

      Ha!ha! I hear ya!
