Spy×Family 15
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis
The terrorist Keith discovers his dog bomb exploded in the river, leaving the minister (Twilight’s disguise) unharmed. Keith flees in his car, only to be spotted by Yor. She recognizes him as the one who wanted to harm Anya. As such, she kicks the car so that Keith wrecks. Yor calls the cops, then goes to find Anya. Meanwhile, Twilight returns to meet Yor and Anya. By coincidence, all three arrive at the same spot.
Twilight is stunned that Yor and Anya were caught up in the terrorist event. Anya decides she wants the big, shaggy dog as her pet. Twilight refuses as the dog was trained by terrorists. However, Handler, disguised as a member of the Secret Police, gives her approval after Anya pitches a fit. The next day, a member of NICE delivers the dog to the Forger home. Anya is very happy to see the dog again.
The next morning, Twilight breaks the bad news that Anya won’t get another Stella due to the need for secrecy over the terrorist event. As such, Anya decides maybe Damian will be impressed if she has a dog. Anya tells Becky about the dog. Since Becky has a positive reaction to Anya’s news, she tries it on Damian. He’s not impressed, but feels sorry for Anya and asks about the dog’s name. Since Anya doesn’t have a name, Anya is defeated again.
Twilight and Yor escort the excited Anya and the dog to the dog park. On the way there, Twilight tells Anya that they should have a simple name for the dog. At the dog park, Anya asks other dog owners about their dog’s name. When the dog retrieves Anya’s gloves from another, mean dog, Anya is reminded of her Bondman anime. As such, Anya names the dog Bond.
Thoughts/Review
Taken from manga source chapters 22 and 23, Spy×Family 15 is a faithful adaptation. Further, Bond officially joins the Forger household.
End of the Terrorist Arc
Dog lovers will probably hate me, but if some trained, attack dog attacks me, and I have a gun, the dog is dead. As such, I had to laugh when in Spy×Family 15, Twilight just throws said attacking dog into a dumpster and promises to get it back. And yet, that’s the last we see of that German Shepherd dog. 😅
And then there’s Yor. I love her character, especially when it comes to her motherly instincts and desire to protect Anya. As such, Yor’s takedown of Keith’s speeding car had me laughing out loud, even though I knew it was coming. She didn’t exactly go Mama Bear, but it was pretty close. And then she phones the cops to pick up Keith, who was out due to the wreck when Yor kicks his car into a wall. 🤣
My only “issue” of such, is that Anya doesn’t use her telepathy to probe Handler’s thoughts. As such, Anya appears to think that Handler is with the Secret Police. The manga (or at least the adaptation) adds the term “Papa” in parenthesis when Anya says goodbye to Handler, indicating that she knew without saying it aloud.
Bond Comes Home
Most of Spy×Family 15 is dedicated to Bond becoming the Forger’s dog. We get to see a bit about Bond’s tortured past. From that perspective, it is lovely seeing the dog get into a loving home. At the same time, Anya learns about naming a pet, taking the dog for walks, feeding it, and of course, letting it do its stinky business. 🤣 Yes, I laughed way harder than I should have over Bond taking a dump.
It was so heartwarming to see Anya playing in the dog park with Bond. While I didn’t think about this when I read the manga, the episode reminded me of Anya’s tragic past and how far she’s come. For me, that remembrance made me appreciate Anya coming up with Bond’s name. But then, I’m becoming a sentimental old fool. 😅
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
In the end, Spy×Family 15 nicely wraps up the terrorist story arc, and gives us a lovely tale of the dog Bond coming the the Forger home. I’m so glad I got into this series!
(Oh, and we got some more, classic, Anya facial expressions.)
