SPOILER Summary/Synopsis

A mafia boss named Keppochi wants a painter’s fortune. As such, he has the painter and his staff killed. Only the painter’s terminally ill son Ken survives. Keppochi has Fujiko analyze the painting with his super computer. However, the computer finds nothing remarkable since Fujiko stunted the analysis. In fact, when held in a certain light, the painting marked the location of the painter’s treasure.

Meanwhile, Goemon reports to Lupin about Ken, whom he is tending to in an abandoned hut. Fujiko arrives to get in on the heist. Jigen realizes Ken is in danger, so Goemon takes the secret exit out of Lupin’s office hideout. At the same time, Zenigata has a hoard of police surround the building. Zenigata bursts in, only to ultimately have the floor rise up and dump him and the cops outside.

Goemon finds the hut on fire with no sign of Ken. As such, he assaults Keppochi’s mansion, slaughtering many of his guards. Keppochi puts a stop to it when he reveals he has Ken captive. After taking Goemon’s sword, Keppochi has Goemon tortured until Ken reveals the painting has a secret map. However, Lupin has already stolen it. To that end, Keppochi calls Lupin to request a swap of the painting for the boy and Goemon.

Keppochi informs Zenigata, who shows up to arrest Lupin. After trapping Lupin, Jigen, Ken, Fujiko, and the injured Goemon in a cage, he drops them and Zenigata into a basement room to drown them. Further, he has the mansion set to explode. Goemon, who somehow has his sword, cuts them free. They elude Zenigata while Fujiko hooks up with Keppochi. However, the map revealed by sunlight is a trap, meaning the moonlight map is correct.

Thoughts/Review

Ugh. Lupin the 3rd: Part III 47  is another one of those insanely dumb episodes. For a start, the premise makes no sense. A mafia boss wants some painter’s fortune.  The painter has time to not only bury the fortune in a mystery location, but also has time to paint a picture that has a trap map when exposed to sunlight, and the real map when exposed to moonlight. Ugh. Whatever.

Lupin the 3rd: Part III 47

Next up is Lupin’s hideout. Good grief. Ignoring things like the insane expense of such a contraption, it makes no sense to install a floor that rises up to the roof, then dumps out everything onto the street. This is a dilapidated office building for a start. But it was a plot convenient, cartoon moment that was supposed to be funny, but wasn’t.

Lupin the 3rd: Part III 47

In fact everything in the episode is plot convenient. Otherwise, how would Keppochi know about the shack where Ken was at? Or how would Goemon get his sword back? And then there’s the convenient Fujiko switching sides, only to magically survive the trap. Or anything else that happened in this ridiculous episode.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In end, Lupin the 3rd: Part III 47 made my head hurt from the stupidity of everything. Maybe it isn’t the stupidest episode, but it is up there.
