Cardcaptor Sakura: The Manga

I remember a few years ago, I rented the first volume of the anime Cardcaptor Sakura. I watched it and found it rather enjoyable despite being annoyed at the lack of Japanese honorifics in subtitles. About that time, there was an opportunity for me to purchase the entire TV series new (and legit) for a about 1/3 of the normal price. So, I did the RARE thing and took a chance on buying the title, knowing that at the cheap price I paid, I’d have an easy time of breaking even selling it on eBay if I had to.

To my relief, I rather enjoyed this sweet, cute, and fun title (weird, youi, shounen-ai, shoujo-ai, yuri, lolicon, shoutacon, incestuous relationship hints not withstanding). However, I never got around to reading the manga. Even when I began reading Tsubasa (which features an older Sakura-chan and Syaoran-kun), the thought of reading the manga never occurred to me (or at least, not very strongly).

So, what prompted me to suddenly want to read this manga?

I’m not sure, but it may be due in part when I took a look at some of the fresh Tsubasa chapters from Japan and saw the look on Sakura-chan’s face because of whatever events had transpired recently. Shocking, considering that in the CCS anime and in the Tsubasa manga released by Del Rey to date, this look had never been on her face. Below is what I saw mostly, with the look being on a young teen-aged Sakura-chan in Tsubasa.

I’ll reveal the look I was talking about when I start reviewing the chapters not yet released by Del Rey of Tsubasa. ^_^;;;

I don’t plan to review Cardcaptor Sakura the way I am xxxHOLiC or Tsubasa, but I will read the entire thing and go from there, making comparisons to the anime I’m sure.

Additional: OK, slight change of plans after reading into volume 2 of the manga. WOW! Got to comment on some of that stuff. ^_^;
