Keroro Gunsou episode 74

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

This episode has multiple shorts to fill the time. The first is spread out over small chunks where Keroro attempts to get into Guinness Book of World Records for dominoes but fails. Next, Keroro tries a series of trades with the goal being to get Earth. However, he gets foiled every time because he ends his trading train with Kogoro, who only has colored boxes for trade. Next, Paul and a man named Gepalt do battle with word games and other such nonsense. Following that, Keroro decides to take over a movie theater and play the platoon’s animated movie, disguised as an Admiral Giroro film. Only Kogoro comes to see the movie and his laugh says he hates it.

Next up, Mao-chan (Mois-chan) tells Natsumi, Koyuki, and Momoka that she can do love fortunes. What the girls don’t know is that it involves the destruction of many planets. Then, Keroro is given an invention by Kururu which makes him an esper. However, he only uses his powers to help with his chores. After that, Natsumi and Koyuki are tricked by Keroro into doing weird things as part of a radio exercise program. Next on the radio, Natsumi is frustrated that Keroro’s postcards are always being read on the radio by Mutsumi and hers aren’t. She finally gets on thanks to some help from Giroro. After the Viper clan has a reunion, Keroro and Fuyuki work to get everyone into a photograph.

Thoughts/Review:

As it goes, this episode of shorts was pretty fun. Nothing too special but I will say that when I saw Tamama’s hip thrusts in the 3rd story, I laughed out loud. It was almost as funny as the scene of Keroro humping the laundry in episode 64. Natsumi and Koyuki were tricked into a couple of pelvic thrusts, but it wasn’t funny like Tamama’s.

While the Space Battleship Yamato parody reference is easy to spot (and there were at least two this outing), I’d swear that Gepault is a take off on Pycal from the first Lupin III TV series as well as the Lupin III: Return of the Magician OVA. The hair style, suit, and general look strongly suggests it, even if the suit and hair colors are different. As to the first Yamato reference, now that I’ve seen the entire first series, the cover of that manga made me chuckle since it apes events in episode 26.

Of all the shorts, I think I could have done without the Viper one. While it was a parody of some big family event with all of your relatives, it just didn’t strike me as funny.

Still, as I said, a fun episode even if difficult to blog.
