xxxHOLiC Manga Chapter 211 Review

xxxHOLiC (xxxHOLiC Rou) Manga Chapter 211

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

xxxHOLiC Manga Chapter 211As Watanuki walks the grounds during an evening autumn rain and communes with the plants, he notices a woman in a kimono.  However, for whatever reason, he does not speak to her and when Mokona went to get her, she was gone.  Over dinner, Watanuki tells Doumeki this and says the woman will return to have her wish granted.

The next raining evening, Watanuki again sees the woman.  This time he’s able to make contact with her, informing her he’s the owner of the shop and that he grants wishes.  She indicates that a person promised to meet her under her umbrella but hasn’t done so.

Later still, Watanuki is knitting with the help of Doumeki, Maru, and Moro and talks about his latest encounter with the woman.

On yet another rainy evening, the teary-eyed woman again speaks of the man who was supposed to meet her and wonders if she did something wrong.  Watanuki inquires about the umbrella and learns the man gave it to the woman, stating that they could meet under the umbrella without the public watching them.  Watanuki sees a charm strip with an eye symbol on it on the outside of the umbrella.  He explains to the woman why they charm is in the wrong place and moves it from the outside of the umbrella to the inside.  Immediately, her man appears and the two disappear shortly thereafter with the woman saying farewell and leaving the umbrella behind.

Watanuki and Doumeki discuss the case and how an honest mistake in the placement of the charm strip caused the problem.  Watanuki is pleased with the payment he has received — the woman’s umbrella.

There’s not a whole lot to say regarding this chapter.  The story itself is pretty straight forward with a ghostly couple desperately longing to see each other again.  I am a bit puzzled why Watanuki couldn’t speak with the woman initially.

The only other thing of note is that Watanuki never even touched the charm strip in order to move it.  He really has become quite powerful and his knowledge is pretty impressive too.

Only 24-pages this chapter so if this page-count trend continues, then I’ll know that CLAMP is on a normal, two volume a year release schedule when it comes to the books.  So naturally, that will translate to roughly the same for Del Rey’s releases.

So, nothing to write home about here.  Maybe the next chapter will be more interesting.

But isn’t the next chapter, the final chapter of this series? If that’s the case, I certainly hope it’d be more interesting than this penultimate chapter was. 😀

  2. Ultimaniac says:

If this is true then it would be a worse ending than any generic harem series. There’s no way I would be satisfied with such an abrupt ending…

Brief drive-by posting — it seems true and I have brief remarks on this when the next chapter post happens on Saturday. I’ll save any rants until the last chapter is released and CLAMP has anything else to say.

Well i just read ch 212 and if that news about the next chapter being the last one is true, then i think it would have to be a bit bigger than just 26 pages like ch 212 is.

But i do have to say that the end of the series seems to be a bit rushed because there wasn’t any fore-shadowing of this until the end of ch 212.

Hmm… I seemed to have been off by one chapter. Chapter 212 just came out, making 211 the second-to-last chapter.

At least the ending won’t come too suddenly.
