Cardcaptor Sakura Omnibus Vol. 2 Delayed Again…For the Umteenth Time!
I received a bit of frustrating news today — Dark Horse is once again delaying the release of Cardcaptor Sakura Omnibus Volume 2, this time until August 9th. *_*
AAAAAUUUGGGHHHH!!!!!
Back in February, I ranted about how Dark Horse is notorious for constantly delaying releases of manga titles they have licensed. Well, they are nothing if not consistent. Initially, omnibus volume 2 for Cardcaptor Sakura was to be released on December 21, 2010. Then it got pushed out to June 1, 2011. Then RightStuf has it listed as July 27, 2011 but Amazon has it now listed as August 9, 2011, which is what my e-mail alert also told me. *_* I don’t know what goes on with Dark Horse and keeping a release date, but their track record for deliverables in this regard is terrible.
So, I have to wait a couple more months for my manga, which in and of itself isn’t a big deal (and maybe I’ll get it earlier if RightStuf ends up being right). However, with Dark Horse now having Gate 7, I can’t help but wonder if they’ll be slacking on that as well. *_* I just wish that Dark Horse could do like most other publishers and keep to a release date rather than screwing up my pre-orders. As it is, I have to scramble around and fix things so that some other stuff I had ordered with this volume can now be released to me without being held up until August as well.
I feel your pain, bro. Unfortunately it isn’t just Dark Horse that’s not good with their timetables for releases. Oddly enough, this occurred rather often with Viz’s omnibus release of the Dragonball manga. Each subsequent volume was pushed back months, seasons even!
I don’t know what it is about rereleases of content in an omnibus format that these companies have problems with, but it happens.
Also, CCS rules.
For some reason, I have a feeling that Kodansha Comic’s upcoming omnibus releases will be on time, starting with Negima!
Hmm, perhaps the omnibus is a bigger project than Dark Horse expected? That’s strange there’s this many delays.

When Tenchi OVA 3 was delayed in Japan for several months and FUNimation’s US release was delayed for what seemed like forever, you found all kinds of excuses for that. Now you’re mad at Dark Horse for their delays. What a surprise.
I can’t wait for the omnibus release for Negima! As much improved as the pacing is when reading it a volume at a time, I am very curious about how it’d change if I read an omnibus straight one Friday evening.

They are notorious for this and don’t bother to explain.

The “real” surprise is the revisionist history. OK, its not a surprise because that’s the agenda but I’m in the mood for games.
Yeah, when the Japanese delayed the release of episode 4 of OVA 3, I was not a happy camper. However, since this was the FIRST time any Tenchi title had been delayed, my hope was that the series would be extended from six to a lot more than six and thus they’d need that delay time in order to get the animation and story sorted out for a much longer series. When this proved not to be the case, I expressed my severe disappointment.
On the FUNimation front, I didn’t get mad with them once I learned the reason for the delay — FUNimation had to negotiate a second license for episodes 4-6 and that was unexpected. Plus, FUNimation never said, “We’re releasing volume 2 of OVA 3 on such-and-such a date.” They simply said nothing because they couldn’t as they were in negotiations for an all new license. Once FUNimation had the license and announced an official release date, they met the target date.
With Dark Horse, it is completely different. They routinely announce dates, then retract them, announce new dates, delay them, then eventually they get around to actually releasing the title in question to the public. Rarely do they bother to give an explanation. With “Oh My Goddess: Colors,” they kept saying that things were taking longer to translate than expected and there were other reasons as well, so many that eventually I just gave up on them ever releasing the book. It took a couple of years (IIRC), but eventually they got it out.
So, nice try. ^_^

Try marathoning the entire series sometime. *lol*
This is why I reserve all my comic releases at my local comic book store (same with Vertical and their freakin’ Black Jack release schedule!). Instead of being caught up with release dates it’s a nice happy surprise in my pull box whenever it finally does come out. Heck I just recently got Vol. 16 of the Vampire Hunter D novel and have been expecting that since around February.
Maybe the reason they had to delay the omnibus issues is thay just had to layoff a number of staff. Things are ruff for all manga publishers, and especially hard for those in Oregon where our socialist government has impossed a gross receits tax on all small companies. (Nice way to encourage bussiness to move to the state, you think?)
I feel so stupid now that you’ve set me straight and told the story how it really was. I’m glad you’re always there to educate us fans and provide accurate information without any agenda attached.
Now, I think if Dark Horse wants to head off criticism about the delays, they should pony up and hand out some “early review copies” for prominent fan site and blog owners, as well as give them some “inside information” and maybe even moderator positions at their forums. I think you’ll agree that this tactic worked well for FUNimation.

Possibly but they have a long history of doing this, so much so that whenever Dark Horse says, “We are releasing something on such-and-such a date,” I assume it is just made up.
Now, I think if Dark Horse wants to head off criticism about the delays, they should pony up and hand out some “early review copies”…
*lol* They already do that and more, as do almost every other publisher. Again, nice try. ^_^
Looks like I need to spell it out for you.

Gah!! This is how I find out that the 2nd omnibus, which I’ve already pre-ordered, has been delayed once again. I know the title says AGAIN but I just thought… *rolls around on the floor*
I really hope they don’t ever STOP releasing these omnibi at least.
Looks like I need to spell it out for you.
No, I need to spell it out for you — they already have and more. Again, nice try. BTW, thanks for not using profanity. ^_^
Wow, I didn’t think you’d admit to being on the take so readily. I suppose for a business-minded person like you it must seem quite normal to be compensated for your “services”. Good thing there’s no agenda involved with all that.
Since we’re being so courteous tonight, thanks for reading and responding after having repeatedly claimed that you’d never. I’m sure you’ll find a way to count this here as another “great victory” among the many you’ve “won” against me and my friends. You truly are a winner.

My schedule is such that I can’t be bothered with a comic book store. Its just easier to order stuff online. However, whenever I have a Dark Horse preorder in an order, said order almost always gets screwed up. That’s why sometimes, I don’t preorder.
Ah, trolls. ^_^

Yeah, didn’t admit this but you can twist it any way you want. ^_^

Receiving review copies of anime or manga is not “compensation.” However, you can twist that anyway you’d like as well. ^_^

None at all — I call ’em like I see them. How harsh I am just depends on my mood and the amount of additional information I happen to know.

So, you are confirming that you are Cyber Stalker? Google says you are but Google could be wrong. ^_^
Anyway, its my blog so I can allow anything through that I want.
Since you guys started talking about Tenchi, let me ask you ANB, when do you intend to come through with your long promised OVA 3 review? Please don’t tell me you’ve lost your nerve because of some troll. Those of us who thought OVA 3 was a masterpiece are looking forward to your authoritative opinion that I’m sure will make all the haters out there take notice and reevaluate their unfairly negative attitude. If you give up, the haters win.
Its on the list along with GXP and a final review of ISM. There are other titles on the shelf as well and I went with one of those first, which will show up in a couple of days. ^_^;
I’ve heard that many times already. I see a long string of excuses on that list of yours and I’m thinking the trolls have you cornered after all. You’re welcome to prove me wrong.
Hi there AstroNerdBoy.
If you’re ever going to write your review of OVA3, you may want to download and listen to the Tenchicast Episode 4: No Need for OVA3! to get a refresher on what problems people had with OVA3 and maybe you’ll want to revisit your opinion that most fans liked OVA3.
You can download it from http://www.tenchiforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=15

*lol* I’ll get around to it…eventually.
Regardless, my statement on the popularity of OVA 3 is solely based on sales, both here and in Japan, not on fans who hate it and still talk about their hatred of it to this day. ^_^
Still, my plan for OVA 3 reviews are to have one for OVA 3, one for OVA 3 +1, and then a third piece. It is that third piece in which I will listen to that podcast because I’m sure it will be relevant. ^_^ Thanks for the link. ^_^
Did you get the news that they’ve revised the ship date again? Its now August 2. Some good news finally.

If I did, it got routed and I’d have to find it. Nevertheless, it is good news. ^_^
