Akamatsu-sensei’s Facebook Post on Negima! Ending

Akamatsu-sensei posted this on Wednesday (when chapter was released in Japan), but I’m behind so I’m only sharing this now. ^_^;

In Japan, everyone can read chapter352 of Negima today.
Now, I must say that Negima will end at chapter355.
It is not truncation.
Please expect a good ending of Negima.

I’m pulling two things from this post.

  1. Akamatsu-sensei is ending the manga in a way that he pretty much planned to.
  2. The ending of Negima! won’t have fans angry and ready to riot again.

As to the first point, it is hard to believe that Negima! is being ended without truncation.  However, stories like Ako’s scar, more of Eva’s history, the truth of Chachazero, etc., aren’t important to the main storyline and thus do not have to be addressed (though I for one would LOVE to see these things addressed).  So for the main story, with three chapters left, the only things left in terms of the main story are (1) seeing Mars saved and (2) having Negi resolve the issue of Nagi (and subsequently, Arika).  Even then, it seems hard to believe that these things could be resolved in three chapters, even if extended chapters, but it *could* be done.

So, however the story ends, it would seem that this is the way that Akamatsu-sensei planned, with the possible exception of having the manga extended by a couple of volumes and throw in one final “fun” story arc.

That brings me to Akamatsu-sensei’s second point — “Please expect a good ending of Negima.”  So, Sensei is saying that he’ll wrap things up nicely in terms of the main plot, and we’ll have one of those “and they all lived happily ever after” endings. I sure hope so.

Regardless, we have another week to wait before Negima! chapter 353 comes out.  It should be around that time that my LE edition of volume 37 should be shipped from Japan, so I’ll have my pactio set if nothing else. ^_~

I’ve not really heard of any of this, but it is interesting to read about.

I am beginning to smell a rat.

Negima ends, but does the story end with it?

I really really would like to join this train of thought (and I probably already boarded the train ride), but the last thing anyone would want is to get their hopes up and then find out that it’s a “nope, that’s it, sorry” situation for the manga. Only thing is to expect that time will tell and see the flow.

As for the ending, as with many other series/franchises that may have met a premature end before answering many questions of said series plot, theres only so much that can be done in 3 chapters, as ANB mentioned, even if they are extended chapters.

*Spoilers if not up to chapter 352*
The way I see it, with Chao and Evangeline popping up, here are some of the things that seem possible.

      – Evangeline (or Chao, but must likely Eva) will go into further detail of what happened during the 100+ years of Asuna’s sealing. She can go into details of Negi’s death, especially with her master knowledge of the Magia Erebea technique.

      – Chao time traveling abilities will be put to use, but not to change any timeline, but rather, for Asuna to have a final chance of seeing Class 3a + anyone else she cares about and gain closure.

But what I’d really like to see is: Absolute proof that Negi is truly gone. I was always wondering why when Asuna looked at a wiki like site that mentions Negi wherabouts = unknown (it could have been outdated). Then theres that fact that he died around the age of 70. What are the details and such? But the proof I would really like to see – Is Asuna’s Pactio Card.

We can only hope that after the end, we either get a side project for Negima, or maybe Akamatsu-san might have a new manga out or something (though it’s gonna be difficult to swallow especially after feeling so close with the Negima Series)

      I’d hope not.

Yeah, some exposition would be nice.

      >- Chao time traveling abilities will be put to use, but not to change any timeline, but rather, for Asuna to have a final chance of seeing Class 3a + anyone else she cares about and gain closure.

You know, I’d started to consider this as a possibility as well.

      >But the proof I would really like to see – Is Asuna’s Pactio Card.

      Heh!heh!heh!

I’m just hoping that Negima doesn’t end like the way xxxHolic did. Both involve time-skips…

    I HATE YOU xD

Well, there will always be idiots who hate the ending whatever it is…

    So it’s really true. 🙁

I suppose it does make sense. The main arc of the story (Magical World) has wound itself down, and Negi put the means of Mars’ salvation in place. To continue the story from this point would either require introducing new antagonists in Future-Mars or Future-Earth, or doing so in the “present”. The only real loose end at this point is Negi’s father.

I’m still holding out for rumors of Negi’s death to be greatly exaggerated.

I think it will be, and secretly, I’m hoping for…well…I’ll not say. *lol*

It’s actually two and a half weeks isn’t it? I thought 353 was coming out on the 29th.

I still don’t think the ending could be very good, for me at least. Like you said, the final chapters SHOULD deal with Negi and Nagi. But they spent so much time lately focusing on Asuna(saved the day on the final battle, became the cornerstone for Negi’s plan, multiple tear jerking moments back to back, entire chapter to herself) that a sudden jump over to Negi’s enormous dilemma with his dad just seems like it can’t be anything other than forced.

Even though It was most likely Akamatsu-sensei’s plan from the beginning to make Asuna such an important character, I guess I just don’t like the fact that Asuna went from primary interaction of the main character to primary focus of the main character to almost the protagonist of the whole story.

      >It’s actually two and a half weeks isn’t it? I thought 353 was coming out on the 29th.

      You’re correct. Lack of sleep does that too me. ^_^;;;;;;;;;

As to your other thoughts, I agree.

Sorry, but my gut is screaming “BS”. Even if it’s Akamatsu-sensei who’s saying this. But I’m glad to know he believes the story can be ended properly, whether or not it’s done completely.

  8. evgenidb says:

Don’t worry, it’s just little bit of off-topic:
    Look at this: http://www.cinefish.bg/Jelyazno-nebe-Mejdunaroden-treylar-trailer18018.html

It’s an independent movie, which looks amazing at least in the trailers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Sky.

  9. If Negima is going to end on a non-truncated note, I wonder what Asuna will be doing next. The suspense is killing me, yet, I acknowledge that Akamatsu-Sensei is a really busy person that has multiple projects involved. wondered why Asuna has become the focus all of a sudden? Since Negi has pretty much left the story (he was not the main focus after Magicus Mundus), Asuna has become the center of attention again.

people stop deceiving yourself, stop expecting tree magic 3 that are going to be a masterpice resolving everything. hell this sound like the movie the idiocracy, he is going to cure cancer, he is going to eradicate the hunger, he make you taller, and will do it in one weak,it sound ridiculus because it cant be done, if this was his original plan all along he is the worst mangaka ever. and the way he responded to the things the fans tell him in letters an email, they wanted to see whit a picture a comment and the word done, like we are retards, and this is enough for us, so we would run to buy the next manga he make because it got covered, for god sake, the history was about negi looking for nagi and dont even show us the resolution of the main plot. I never read this manga for asuna, she was the only character I never care for, and he make it that all is fine as long asuna remain alive, all the rest of character can dissapeard and even negi can die as long asuna remain he thinks the fans wont care, becuase we misunderstud and the history was about asuna so in his mind is a happy ending and doesnt matter if all the mistery go unresolved as long as asuna get closure. i would only recoment this manga to other people as a form of self torture.

This story was so great as Akamatsu can do only. This end is something what nobody can do acceptable within 3 chaps including Akamatsu-sensei. That is the Negima paradoxon. There is no way out.

  12. Krono says:

Meh. I find it quite difficult to believe that wrapping up the story in three chapters, no matter how long they are, will be a satisfactory ending, given how forced and contrived the plot of the last few chapters has been.

Likewise, I rather doubtful that this isn’t a truncation. Not that I think some editor canceled the series, which I’d imagine is the concern that KA is addressing with the comment. Rather I think that Ken wrote himself into a corner. He has no active antagonists left, and few that could match Negi anyways. There’s nothing left about the main plot of “finding Nagi” that should be a real mystery to Negi. Between Ala Rubra, Fate, and the Gravekeeper, Negi should be able to get all questions about what befell his parents answered. So KA is left with a bunch of old slice of life plots that develop the individual characters before wrapping things up. He probably considered his options, and decided he really didn’t feel like doing all those small stories, and just end it.

I wonder, will chapter 353 be up to 30 pages instead of the usual 18 pages?

this mark the end of akamatus as an author, all the romance he writes is the same, if you read one those you can guess the other ones, and alredy know what girl is going to win, and now he show that he cant write the resolution of plot of a shounen manga, and he has 2 different ending and both suck. so I not looking forward to his next work.
