KILL la KILL episode 24 Final Episode
Synopsis:
As the battle rages on, Ragyou unveils her trump card as she forces all Seimeisen to submit, so that even if they are part of Kami robes or Goku robes, they have no power. With that, Ragyou activates the original Seimeisen mass, which sends a torrent off flooding up to the top of Honnouji Academy. Ira, with the other Elite Four in tow and Mako holding onto his back, gets to the top despite the difficulties of his uniform being dominated. Mako protests Nui’s snarkiness, so Nui attempts to end Mako’s life. Ira takes the killing blow instead. Mako is stunned by Ira being taken down as Ryuuko sheds herself of Senketsu to battle Nui.
Mako and the others mourn the apparent loss of Ira as Ryuuko is mocked by Ragyou and Nui. She attacks, causing Senketsu to be concerned, but Satsuki, who can now hear him speak, tells him to hold on. Realizing that Satsuki can communicate with him, Senketsu launches an attack after Ragyou captures everyone. Because he is like Ryuuko, in that he’s a hybrid, the domination effect is no longer on him. With that, he ejects Rei from Ragyou’s outfit, releasing her control over the Seimeisen. Now freed, Satsuki and the others return to the fight. Ira also returns, having only been knocked out earlier, and breaks through a barrier to allow them to destroy the school’s transmitter. With that, Ryuuko and Satsuki combine attack their mother.
Ragyou orders Nui to detach herself from her body. Nui happily does this for her mother, cutting her head off and merging into the main Seimeisen mass, which then is absorbed into Ragyou. With that, Ragyou launches herself into space to a Revocs satellite to activate COVERS. Meanwhile, with the other’s permission, Ryuuko has Senketsu absorb their Seimeisen threads, leaving them nude while powering up Ryuuko and Senketsu. With that, they follow Ragyou into space, cutting a whole in the COVERS surrounding Earth. Ryuuko’s battle with Ragyou seems fruitless, but instead, Ryuuko and Senketsu are absorbing Ragyou’s Seimeisen, weakening her. Because the Seimeisen Senketsu had absorbed has caused him to evolve, he was able to do this.
Having stripped Ragyou, Ryuuko orders the Seimeisen to free humanity, which they do. Ragyou can’t believe it, but as the two of them stand in low Earth orbit, Ragyou reminds Ryuuko that the Seimeisen are still out there and will return to Earth some day. She refuses Ryuuko’s offer to return home and apparently commits suicide. Senketsu, realizing his battle with Shinra Kouketsu, takes Ryuuko through the atmosphere, using himself as a heat shield. After saying farewell to Ryuuko, Senketsu is gone as Ryuuko freefalls to Satsuki and the others. With that, Ryuuko and Mako go on the promised fashion shopping date, where they are joined by Satsuki, who has a new haircut, and observed by the Elite Four.
Thoughts/Review:
And so it comes to an end.
The action stuff was pretty much by the numbers, even if I didn’t know the specifics. After all, the good guys have to win, so things have to be by the numbers, right?
On the awesome front, lets start with Ira. I loved him carrying the others up to where Nui was with Mako hanging on by her teeth. The scene still makes me laugh, but there’s no denying Ira’s awesomeness.
I give Trigger credit on faking Ira’s death. I was expecting someone to die, possibly Saori or Satsuki. Ira popping in and taking a killing blow meant for Mako made me think he would die, especially since everyone mourned him.
His later return surprised me, but I was glad since that means that meant that my dream of having Mako and Ira go on a date in the OVA is still on. ^_~
Of course Mako was her usual awesome self.
The Elite Four as well.
Satsuki was her usual awesome self as well.
The new Satsuki is fine as well. I swear, once I saw her with the cut hair (representing a symbolic starting over), I thought, “It’s Motoko from Love Hina!” *lol* The parallels between the characters are very similar. I like seeing Satsuki embrace her feminine side. ^_^
I liked how Ryuuko addressed Ragyou as her mother. I also liked how Ryuuko addressed Satsuki as “neesan”. I guess it goes to show how far Ryuuko has come as a character.
As to Nui, she really is the most tragic character in the series. Her blind devotion and love for Ragyou allowed me to understand why she did what she did, but that didn’t make it any less tragic. Poor girl craved her adoptive mother’s approval and love, thus she was willing to do anything.
Oh, and someone remind me why the French “Oui, maman” is awesomely awesome, but the Japanese “neesan” is evilly evil? ^_~
As I mentioned earlier, I figured a character would die in this episode. I honestly didn’t expect Senketsu to be the one to die.
So, did Ragyou truly die? Will there be a sequel when new Seimeisen arrive? Who can say for sure.
Finally, I was in Times Square last Monday (March 24), but somehow, I completely missed the Weyland Corp sign (Alien franchise) and the OmniCorp sign (RoboCop franchise). ^_^;
I’ll have final thoughts later. For now, the anime ended with a bang, as expected. I do look forward to seeing the OVA when it comes out.

Yo! The reason why I’m interested in watching Kill la Kill every release is because YOU introduced it to me. I thought it would be like “another ecchi” anime that only shows fanservice and yet, I was “nearly” wrong. It was pure AWESOME!
Thank you Trigger! And thank you to you too for blogging this Awe-Amazing Animation and Epic Battle Scenes I have ever seen. Maybe someday, I’m going to buy an Original English Sub…yeah, someday…

*Sigh*… and so a great anime ends…
1- Ira’s death and Mako’s reactions were both, cute, sad and funny;
1.1. And when he came back…wait a moment… did he just get a face on his chest? Well, I only saw AMV’s, but doesnt a character um Gurren Lagan has a face in his chest as well?
1.2. You can see Ira all dressed up (for Mako?) and holding flowers (for Mako?!) near the end. : 3
2- The concept of life fibers reproduction was quite interesting to me. I suppose they use humans as batteries, until they reach their next destination…or maybe they just sleep?
3- And speaking of life fibers…Senketsu’s death was heartbreaking and beautiful…When he said that “sailor uniforms eventually get too small”…oh, the feeling. Even thinking about this now, as I type this, still saddens me a little.
P.S. Yes, I also came to know KLK through you Astro.^^ I saw some post titles, then some Mako’s compilations on Youtube…next moment I was hooked! lol So, thank you so very much for introducing me to this! Plz be sure to review Trigger’s next work as well!
P.S. What to mean by “by the numbers”?
Yeah I think it a reference to lagaan the mini mech pilot by shimon the face did indeed look like it.
The writer and producer also worked on gurren lagaan and in about the last 10 episodes they have been pulling out elements of the beastman arc to be used in kill la kill.
Naked sun = dai gurren
Life fibre synchronise = gurren and lagaan gattai
Finishing move fibre lose = giga drill break finishing move
Unlimited evolution shown by senketsu = shimon spiral energy output to continuously evolve lagaan
Ragyou and ryuko turning god mode = shimon and anti spiral going universal scale size avatar
The fight as astro explained went back and went back and forth with ragyou winning, then ryuko and co winning then one by one they took out the last bosses.
I haven’t watched Gurren Lagan, so I can’t say. That being said, I’m told there are a lot of parallels (and even parodies) of Gurren Lagan in KILL la KILL.
The impression I got is that once a planet was encased, Seimeisen would then act like spores and explode into space, leaving no planet behind. Now, whether they have being fueling them or not, I don’t know. If they are like spores, then they are inert entities that become active when they reach a planet with intelligent life.
Who’d have thunk that a girls sailor school uniform would cause such emotions. ^_^

The writers had to do certain things in order that the villain is defeated and the heroes win. There are different formulas to accomplish this in writing. In this case, defeating Ragyou and Nui followed a standard shounen final boss battle formula, though the twist at the end was Ragyou taking her own life (apparently).
My words were not a criticism. ^_^
Interesting fact: there was a short story released that foreshadowed Ira’s survival, as it featured Ira’s uncle, a blacksmith who had made the armour he used when he fought Satsuki, and was making a new set for him.
By short story, I presume you mean prose and not some anime short, right?

*To Gurren Lagaan fans… Did any one notice the King Kittan guy on the treadmill near the end of episode 23? I was literally going, really Trigger? darn how did I not notice that.
First off, I have a number of mix feeling about the final episode. Only after watching it a second time did I actually enjoy it by viewing it from another point of view.
Once again the writer and producer of Kill la Kill has repeated a number of story elements from Gurren Lagaan into the final episodes.
Ira unexpected death was very unexpected and kind made me wonder if they were going to genuinely kill off a main cast, since they haven't killed any one yet. (Kamina the most influencial character of Gurren Lagaan and the most popular of the cast was killed off very early on *Sorry for spoiling it, if you were planning to watch it astro…)
Nui sacrifice was another totally unexpected element… I thought she would put up a bit of resistance and would end up being killed by Ragyou… but for her to so easily split her head and cast aside her body was simply proof of how psychotic that character was… which is what we all love about her.
As a whole this episode has been fantastic but it is unfortunately giving me to much of a this is just the first arc of Kill la Kill feel since the final episode is more like Gurren Lagaan beastman arc with some elements of the anti-spiral arc final episode mix in.
Ryuko and Ragyou going all god mode is exactly the same as how Shimon powered up Gurren Lagaan to universal scale to fight and defeat the Anti-Spirals
Ryuko throwing herself at Ragyou is a reverse scenario of Shimon being picked up by Genome and then used his own core drill to stab Genome and pour his spiral energy into him to rip a hole in his chest. He poured his power in whilst Ryuko absorbed Ragyou power
Covers taking over the earth is just like the Anti-Spirals trying to take over earth/the universe
Ragyou universal lecture is more or less the same as Anti-Spirals
Ragyou death and final speech kind of leaves the series as an open end, there is a chance that a more anti-spiral arc influence chapter of Kill la Kill will come out in future featuring a more terrifying force of Life Fibres invading earth.
Senketsu death, was something I totally did not want to see happen </3 but a fitting end has be given to a hero who gave it his all even if it meant burning up his own existence to save those he loved. Senketsu Death is as epic as Kamina's and Kittan's death in the Gurren Lagaan series and the baby senketsu/sailor uniform in the ending kinda gives me hopes that he will someday return (after all his life fibres came from Ryuko)
I do apologize for the long essay but that a lot of weight off my chest now XD from what I heard the OVA is coming out in July or September I think… and will be the 25th unaired episode covering the aftermath of Episode 24 but just before the credits.
Honouji Gakuen Graduation just before they took down the academy. I presume this will give hints as to whether or not Trigger is consider a season 2 or ending it with a happy note.
For something similar to Kill la Kill, I recommend Gurren Lagaan which is one of writers and producers previous work.
There is that for sure, but I couldn’t help but see Nui’s actions as a final act of a daughter, who’s not a daughter, trying to please the only mother she knows.
No problem. ^_^ I’m looking forward to whatever extra stuff they come out with.
