Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei! – 05

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei! - 05Ilya is training outside and accidentally blows a hole in the wall of the house where the bathroom is. As such, Ilya, Shirou, Liz, and Sella head across the street to borrow Luvia’s bath, which she’s all too happy to provide since Shirou is there. Shirou is dragged off to bathe with the butler August while all the women share the giant bath. Kuro is there, so Ilya tries to hide her, but fails. Kuro decides to have some fun, forcing Ilya to go all out to knock Kuro out. After Liz and Sella leave, Luvia and Rin join Ilya, Kuro, and Miyu in the bath. Kuro still doesn’t want to talk as Rin remarks on the missing Archer card. When Ilya mentions wishing she could have her old life back, Kuro is offended, transforms into Archer, attacks Ilya, then flees.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei! - 05Kuro doesn’t come to school he following day, so Ilya is worried for her life until Miyu reminds her of the curse on Kuro. Ilya’s friends let her know that they are planning a birthday party for her during their planned summer beach trip. As such, they want her to invite Chloe (Kuro). After school, Miyu finds a note from Kuro in her shoe locker, so she goes to meet Kuro at a wooded spot with an ocean view. There, Kuro goes on to spell out why she was offended at Ilya’s remarks, saying that to her, this meant that Ilya wished she’d never met Kuro nor Miyu. However, Miyu decides to defend Ilya and activates the Saber card. Meanwhile, Ruby spells out the same thing for Ilya, so Ilya flies off to try to find Miyu and Kuro.

Thoughts/Review:

This episode certainly seemed to take a page from the Akamatsu-sensei school of storytelling — have a giant bath, then put in a bunch of babes into it.  Oh, and don’t forget the breast checking as well.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei! - 05

While I’ve no comments on the girls bathing, I couldn’t help but laugh at Shirou’s uncomfortable bath time with August, who was just a little to into the whole idea of bathing with Shirou. Wrong but funny stuff there.

One thing that puzzled me with the plot is Rin’s and Luvia’s apparent lack of knowledge on where the Archer card was at. They never come out and state, “We think Kuro has the card,” only “We are missing the Archer card,” yet they obviously suspect Kuro is involved somehow. I would have thought Kuro’s use of all of Archer’s abilities would have been all the proof they needed, but it wasn’t until Kuro actually states that she has the card inside her that Rin and Luvia seem to finally have all the pieces.

As to Kuro being offended regarding Ilya’s wish for her old life, I found that somewhat contrived. Seriously, Kuro emerges from Ilya, then tries to kill her repeatedly, but she’s offended at Ilya longing for her life before she became a magic girl because it would mean the end of Kuro’s existance? Someone needs to just slap Kuro a few times and have done.

Miyu’s and Kuro’s confrontation comes off as somewhat contrived as well. It just feels like an excuse was needed to have an action scene, so why not have Miyu in her Saber gear duke it out with Kuro-Archer?

This was the first episode for me where the pacing seemed a tad slow to me. I’m not complaining, but there was definite padding in the way things were done.

Otherwise, I’m not thinking of a lot to say. Next up is Miyu’s and Kuro’s fight, Ilya arriving on the scene, and Iri shows up. That should be interesting.

    Man, the ED cards this season. I just… oh my god. Oh, and talking about breast checking… excluding Kara no Kyoukai and Mahou Tsukai no Yoru, this pic lists the breast sizes of the Type-Moon characters (Tsukihime and FSN)

    One thing that puzzled me with the plot is Rin’s and Luvia’s apparent lack of knowledge on where the Archer card was at. It seems weird to ask that, but as far as Rin and Luvia know, you can’t use the cards on yourself, but need a medium like the kaleidosticks to produce something, so I can understand a bit why they are wondering what happened with the card. They have their suspicions, but they didn’t grasp the idea of using one’s own body yet, that’s why they wanted to ask Ilya, when they saw her using install for a very short moment in episode 1. Kuro only confirmed what Rin already suspected.

    Also, Rin and Luvia have no idea how the Archer spirit looked like – neither Miyu nor Sapphire, Ruby or Ilya told them anything – and Kuro didn’t use her bow when they fought her, she relied on Kanshou and Bakuya and a fake Nine Lives. All of Archer’s abilities that she used, mostly tracing, don’t hint at the Archer card at all. Rin and Luvia never saw the abilities of the Archer spirit before. They got the Archer card from the Magic Association.

    As to Kuro being offended regarding Ilya’s wish for her old life, I found that somewhat contrived.

    Yrg’f whfg fnl gung jnf gur ernfba fur nggnpxrq Vyln va gur svefg cynpr, orsber fur jnf phefrq. It’s also linked with the first season, the manga at least. I guess I could draw parallels to other Type-Moon works now, but since you haven’t experienced them yet, it would just ruin the fun.

    Miyu’s and Kuro’s confrontation comes off as somewhat contrived as well.

    Not in hindsight. In my opinion at least. I guess it feels less contrived if one knows both their full backgrounds.

    This was the first episode for me where the pacing seemed a tad slow to me. I’m not complaining, but there was definite padding in the way things were done.

    It’s funny you say that, since I thought that last episode, while this episode didn’t feel slow to me at all. ^_^ That scene with Ilya trying to find Kuro and Miyu was anime original filler though, on the other hand Silver Link removed a little joke with Ilya complaining to Sella about the food.

    Well… next episode is already out. Time to watch it.

      So, the kaleidostick causes the transformations, and in Miyu’s case, I can understand that to a degree. Didn’t the Archer card go into Ilya during S1?

      All of Archer’s abilities that she used, mostly tracing, don’t hint at the Archer card at all.

      OK, that I can understand. I recall when I watched Fate/stay night, Archer’s sword usage was something I questioned. So I’m taking my own knowledge here and imposing it on the characters in the story, assuming they understand Archer’s abilities. So thanks for giving me a different perspective.

      Interesting. I don’t have all the pieces you have, so it feels different to me. Kuro does apparently know more about Miyu than we in the audience do (who’ve not read the manga).

      I often wonder why some things get cut and others don’t.

      Well… next episode is already out. Time to watch it.

      Which for me won’t be until Sunday at the earliest. ^_^;

      Didn’t the Archer card go into Ilya during S1?

      It did, that’s what Install does. But Ruby and Sapphire decided not to tell Rin and Luvia anything about it yet in season 1, because they didn’t exactly figure out everything that happened. The only one who actually does know how to do it is Miyu, and Sapphire was very shocked and confused when Miyu installed Saber against Berserker in season 1.

      Now a few questions remain: Why could Ilya use Install? And how does Miyu know how Install exactly works, when even Ilya, who apparently used Install, didn’t figure it out as we have seen this episode? This question is back from season 1, but how could Miyu know the summoning chant of the Servants (for the Holy Grail) to install Saber back then?

      • AstroNerdBoy says:

        So, Miyu is doing an install. I thought so, but with my being wrong in assuming other things, I began questioning this as well.

        Regardless, those are good questions. (And I presume you have the answers and are grinning big time. ^_~ )

  2. Random Lurker says:

    Considering Rin and Luvia never really saw “Archer’s abilities” in this series before Kuro used them, it’s not that illogical that they didn’t make the connection. They couldn’t connect the dots without having the dots.

    I somewhat see where Kuro’s coming from. From her point of view, not existing would likely be worse than dying, since at least memories of you remain in the latter case. Of course, that would be the viewpoint of the one doing the killing and thus contrived. Something like “I understand but don’t agree” would be my viewpoint I guess.

    On Shiro and August, The manga made me think A was checking S for Luvia. The anime, not so much…
    Also, Tatsuko is always awesome!

      I was making the mistake of presuming the characters had more information than they obviously did have. I was thinking they were fully briefed on the cards and their abilities, thus I was taking my knowledge of Archer and transposing it to Luvia and Rin. ^_^;

      Something like “I understand but don’t agree” would be my viewpoint I guess.

      I understand. ^_~

      On Shiro and August, The manga made me think A was checking S for Luvia. The anime, not so much…

      Yeah, there was the one question August asked Shirou about “ojousama”, but mostly, the scene comes off as a yaoi thing with the middle age August going for the teenage Shiro. ^_^;

      Also, Tatsuko is always awesome!

      *lol* And the way Ilya tamed her. ^_^

  3. Aki says:

    Well the thing is… In this world they know how the master servant system works and the cards were a new thing in this world because they never seen it.

    In first season they knew about the corrupted heroes and defeating them will give you a class card but there was no telling what they were capable off. They manage to decipher basic functions like include granting a mere fraction of the power.

    Kuro displayed the ability of install and miyu having witness it knew how it worked now, rin and Juvia however has no knowledge about its ability

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

      So I guess for me, the question becomes “How did Kuro know what to do with the cards to use it properly?” I guess that’ll be answered down the road.
