UQ Holder Chapter 56 SPOILER Info and Image! (Update #1)

Here is a SPOILER image for the upcoming UQ Holder chapter 56, courtesy of Manga Kansou. (My review of UQ Holder chapter 56 should come out Wednesday.)

UQ HOLDER CHAPTER 56 SPOILERS

The UQ Holder chapter 56 goodness begins.^_^

UQ Holder Chapter 56

Kind of a big image in size (but still small in terms of what it is showing. Santa gets to be the hero for now. Don’t worry though. If I understand things right (and ChaosProphet can correct me if I’m wrong), in 57 minutes, Touta will be back in action to save the day.

This chapter is going to contain a flashback to how Santa and Sayoko met. Sayoko looks to come off as sympathetic as she and Santa bond in her toilet cubical (to borrow a term from my British cousins…”stall” to us in the U.S.).

Hopefully, ChaosProphet will have something for us soon.

UQ Holder Chapter 56 Update #1: From ChaosProphet

The chapter starts giving a report of the current situation:
2086/9/4 Mysterious riots happened all over, the world is already in the state of the last part of a Zombie movie
Mahora Academy – 64% of it’s population already turned into zombies, no prospects of rescue.
Touta – regeneration speed decreased a lot because of the soul zombie virus, ME super regeneration also won’t activate. Approximately 57 minutes until full recover.
Ikkuu – current body is unusable.
Kirie and Kuroumaru – controlled by the enemy through the virus.
Sayoko – the true culprit, exceptional necromancer
Santa – Revenant, it’s well and together with the first-class student Shinji.

Santa to Shinji “I will stop Sayoko! But dare you worth that?” Santa remembers when he met Sayoko.

(flashback start)
A rumor spread between the students that in the bathroom of the old school building “Sayoko appeared. This year someone will die again.” Santa with a bruised head goes have lunch in the bathroom.

He is surprised when he goes there and sees Sayoko sitting on the toilet crying. They talk a bit, Santa isn’t scared of her. The two without a place to go started bonding on that bathroom. They would have lunch together and clean the bathroom to pass time.

Santa talks that by working hard at learning magic by himself and through the money his mom (who already is dead) worked hard to raise he was able to enroll at that school. He talks about how he is bullied and that life isn’t that good of a thing.

Sayoko cries about how she can’t forgive people like that and that the world is an unjust place. Santa tries to make her feel better saying she don’t need to worry, if he talks with the police he can stop the bullying.

Later Santa comes to the bathroom with the head full of scratches. One of the bullies is the son of the director that have a connection to the police so Santa plea was ignored. He tells Sayoko he will stop coming so he also don’t bring problems to her.

Sayoko tries to stop Santa who says he will somehow solve the problem by himself. But the next time they meet is on that rainy day Santa jumped off. Sayoko who sees Santa says “I won’t let it end like this!!”.
(flashback end)

Santa remembers everything. He was about to hit Shinji again who was trying to make excuses for the incident with the homeless. Then Santa sees students survivors struggling on the bridge. “There is no point in stopping Sayoko is only a trash like you would survive!”.

The students were about to lose when Santa comes and scatter a lot of zombies away (image here). “Ah, if things were turning this way I should have joined those UQ Holder people with Touta. Come corpses, I will be your opponent!”

  1. NML says:

I’m surprised that even though the arc is taking place at Mahora we haven’t seen any characters from Negima or their relatives, maybe Touta will find out more Negi.
I wonder if we’ll see Pactio’s, I’m surprised we haven’t seen them yet.

    • cold_menthol says:

I wonder if we’ll see Pactio’s, I’m surprised we haven’t seen them yet.

Well, excluding Mahora’s “citizen”, most characters in UQH aren’t magician. Whom do you expect to see doing pactio anyway?

      • NML says:

We know from Kotaro’s pactio with Natsumi that Ki-users can make pactio as well as magic users, so potentially lots of people in UQH could make pactios. I suppose some of Negi’s pactios might still be active, eg Chachamaru.
If UQH ever goes to the Magic World then we might some there but I thought Mahora would be a good a place to see some.

        • cold_menthol says:

I’m not saying non-magician cannot make pactio. However, in Kotaro’s case, he did it to help Natsumi, although the result turned out to be way too useful for Kotaro as well..

Initially, pactio is used to assist magician. Meanwhile, known magicians in UQH are already strong enough, except those Mahora students, who are mostly background characters.

lots of people in UQH could make pactios

They could, but why would they? I think Kirie is the only one weak enough to the point she needs a pactio, but even then, she won’t die even if she’s killed. (Oops..) Not to mention, in Kirie’s case, it’s sometimes better to have her killed. :p

        • cold_menthol says:

I just remembered, Kotaro is not only a ki-user, but also a magic-user, although his ki usage is much more dominant. So, you might want to consider another example of a non magic-user who acts as a master in a pactio, if there’s any..

          • chaosprophet says:

A ki user can also do a pactio, and even have it be an pactio with an artifact is they’re strong enough. That’s something Akamatsu answered in the Q&A corner at the end of Negima Vol 28. As translated by Vetus:

“Kotarou isn’t a mage, but can he do a Pactio?
Both Mana-users and Qi-users can take the role of Master in a Pactio. If the Master has neither great Mana nor Qi, then the contract will be in effect, but an Artifact will not be available. ”

In any case, I do agree with you the characters in UQ Holder don’t have much of a reason to get a pactio. In Negi’s case he was a mage who needed people to defend him while he cast spells in the beginning and many of the girls wouldn’t have any use without getting a pactio. And then you had Chamo who really pushed it and the fact Negi magic potential was big enough to hold of various pactios.

Maybe at a later point we will see a pactio or two, but don’t think there will be many.

          • NML says:

It’s very possible that Akamatsu won’t have pactio feature in UQH, I just felt like this arc would be a good place to introduce it, maybe we’ll meet a character at the end of the arc with one.

          • cold_menthol says:

Well, if you’re not specifically talking about a newly-formed pactio, then i’m also expecting to see a few, especially after Al-Iskandariya was shown.

Serious stuff aside, maybe Touta will form one with Kuroumaru, because you know, fanservice. lol.

    • cold_menthol says:

Btw, don’t forget that Santa’s family name is Sasaki, so there’s a chance he is actually related to Makie.

    • Dargor says:

Akamatsu is avoiding Negima references (Beyond turning 3-A into faceless Negi fangirls that no one cares about) like the plague.

Personally, I think that’s for the better. Akamatsu hasn’t gotten out of a literary rut since the final quarter of the MM arc, and I don’t trust him to touch it with a ten foot pole that’s remotely well done to begin with. Truth be told, its better to let it lie then poking its proverbial grave by a man whose half as competent at stringing a half decent story to begin with.

      • WMC says:

Ya. Another sceptic — another realist who sees that the emporer has no clothes.

      • Seimei says:

“Beyond turning 3-A into faceless Negi fangirls that no one cares about”

But is is EXACTLY they were in Negima! Akamatsu their FINALLY give their true role in UQ-Holder^^

      • Seimei says:

” Its one of UQ Holders core failings, in that there’s no one else save the immortals that can remotely do jack and shit about…anything.”

You want to discuss the chronic incompetence of the police services of Mondus-magicus who accused without any evidence Negi and 3A of terrorism and had put premium on their heads? Was not an “easy choice screenplay” it maybe? And just coincidentally all based on Negi in the end. Of course. Welcome to a shonen my friend! For the thousandth time what you repproches to UQ-Holder was ALREADY present in Negima!”

“Also, the World Tree’s divine blessing is gone for whatever reason”

Uh yeah! As stated TeenRyu his way there I do not see the problem:

        1. The World Tree is magically active once every 10 years (or 7 years old I do not know) and not 24 hours on 24 and 7 days out of 7!

        2. Uh we are not in Fairy-tail, or on the island Tenro eh? The World Tree does not offer protection against death if it is to you think!

        • Seimei says:

Here Dargor here for you, since you seem worshiped in Negima, Negi and 3A, I trensmettre allows you comment a hater of Negima:

“J” liked the beginning but now I think it gets boring, a little heavy on the edge, always the same jokes, of course always a thing for girls is deshabillé

Haruhi Fujioka I have the manga to read Volume 19 and 20 at Fnac, the story becomes heavy the DEJA VIEW ALWAYS COPYING in almost all BD moreover, the same codes Shonen too combat I cling less to the characters, limit we always see the same band, I wonder when Akamatsu is going to decide to show more characters little exploited, more that I can not stand love stories between students and Negi, and one wonders when he’ll end up finding that father

Love Hina was much better graphics level History and humor ”

          source : http://www.nautiljon.com/mangas/negima+!+le+ma%C3%AEtre+magicien.html

Is annoying and fills in bad faith eh? Yes, it’s true… but you did not seem to recognize you a little? It does not make you think a little about your vehemence about UQ-Holder? You do not feel exaggerate?

I especially love the last sentence:

“Love Hina WAS much better graphics level History and humor”

trensposé in your language give her: Negima WAS much better graphics level History and humor ”

Ultimately has always rotten logic of conservatism (“was better before! Bouuuu!”) Behind hollow arguments to try to argue the alleged accuracy of their OPINION (knowing that an opinion that it is positive or negative is not a truth.)

        • Dargor says:

No, this is a factual error. Mei Sakura speculates that the reason Mahora fest, being the same levels of insanity every single year, has no casualties every year is due to a “blessing” the tree bestows over the city. The Tree overflows with magical power every twenty or so years, while Mahora fest is held annually. To argue otherwise is to either never have read the manga, or just ignore previous exposition to fit your personal narrative.

And for the last time, quit being a passive aggressive asshole every time someone says something you don’t like.

      • AstroNerdBoy says:

There have been some light referencing, but but that’s it. And I don’t expect him to do more than that, though I still want him to explore Eva’s past in depth. Sadly, I doubt that will ever happen.

        • Seimei says:

And some believe that it is not worse! Not because the 3A vomit as was the case for me (lol ok I’m exaggerating, they were not so bad as heroines but that is not to say that I’m not happy not to see them again !) but because they hope that UQ-Holder gain its own identity and will not just “following Negima”. It should be enough links to find that both series are part of the same world/univers, but few enough to not require systematically readers of UQ-Holder to read Negima to understand the story.

And before Dargor said me “And then the Magician of the Beginning? Bouuuu” Well not exactly. The character of the Magician od the Beginning has been so little used in Negima and there is so little information about him (creator of the magical world, ancestor of Asuna and Negi and adoptive father of Evengeline. This is ALL) .

That there is MUCH you need to make him a background( remember he is aged 2600 years dammit!!!) that which will relie more on discoveries in UQ Holder story than in Negma (without ignoring the elements of his background coming from Negima course)

Eva precisely, I think otherwise Astro, past Eva was barely glimpsed in Negima, there is no reason why he should not be developped, ESPECIALLY if the mage of the Beginning is indeed the main antagonniste of UQ Holder (I sincerely hope! I want to see this black Archmage finally under the spotlight (He deserves it more than the baka 3-A lo I’m joke… although… half^^) I’ve never seen an so badass antagonniste with a so great potential!)

          • AstroNerdBoy says:

Sensei has shown he’s not too interested in doing a great deal of background information on characters. I think this is partially because the more he states, the harder it is to do whatever he wants because he has to take into account what he’s already said.

With Eva, we got a little bit of information, but even then, it is very difficult to place Eva with Ala Rubra without Arika being there AND Eva not knowing Nagi’s relationship with her.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

We’ve seen Negima characters in flashback, and two in actuality (Fate and Tsukuyomi). We’ve seen family names from Negima in UQH (Santa being one). Sensei just isn’t making a huge deal of it because this isn’t Negima.

As to pactiones, I thought Akamatsu-sensei might bring those back just as a money making scheme, but I’ve been wrong.

    • its not easy to make a pactio , even whole students of Ariadne only some have them (Yue), just because Negima main mascos is great as pactio assistant(and black market pactio card seller) that Negi had so much cards

  2. Ken-R says:

What’s odd is the lack of reaction from any magical teachers or whomever the current headmaster is. I’d imagine that the unknown present Mahora headmaster knows Eva, and probably asked for help from UQ Holder. But you’d still think their students turning into undead would bring out a bunch of magical teachers pretty fast. I know it’s the main characters in any manga that get to do the important stuff, but come on ! I guess Sayako might’ve done something to delay their arrival, maybe ?

    • Dargor says:

Its safe to say that they’re functionally gone because Akamatsu needs reasons why his wacky plot can work in the first place. They’re replaced by hacks who don’t know what they’re doing and only get deployed once the body count goes through the goddamned roof, and the school still doesn’t even close then. Its one of UQ Holders core failings, in that there’s no one else save the immortals that can remotely do jack and shit about…anything.

Also, the World Tree’s divine blessing is gone for whatever reason, so yeah, the setting has already slid into the shit spectrum. Akamatsu wants his dark and edgy cake, and pesky little things like previous expose from the last series or basic literary competency will get in the way of this.

      • TeenRyu says:

That, or he has a reason as to why they haven’t acted yet; the tree gives NO F***S about people using magic if you remember. It’s inly truly active for two reasons: during it’s period cycle, and when something like what happened in the second to last arc happened when a massive amount of magic was pulled and used as a “transport” in sorts.

You also need to know that it’s mostly in the city that this is happening, quite a distance from the main school itself. Taking this into factor, with how it’s spread the teachers are better off making sure the students get to safety first; however, there’s too much we don’t know– ken hasn’t donw things with no reason yet really. We shall see what’s going on

        • Dargor says:

Mei Sakura points out that Mahorafest, a event that is held annually, has no casualties every year thanks to what she speculates as a divine blessing the tree gives the city. Given that the Tree only visibly activates every twenty years whereas the fest happens on a yearly basis, arguing otherwise is a moot point.

          • Seimei says:

            ookay :

            1. I was in good faith forgotten this passage with the theory of Mei.

            2. Uh I do not want to break your hopes to find the slightest flaw in UQ Holder but the World Tree was told everything and anything above even that helped to form couples! Mei said herself that “the “blessing” it is only a THEORY! Was a tiny detail as you said, justified the fact than the madness of mahora studients is worthy of loony Toones lol. ^^

I’m honestly not sure which one draws into an absolute argument on “invulnerability” of Mahora

            3. And even if this was actually a blessing, it is not absolute! Otherwise exactly why in Negima at each recommended as dangerous events (attack Chao linshen and after, Cosmo Entelekeia) teachers have protected students or worse situations gave them magical equipment (which included same barriers!!!)?

They would stink say “bah! Is not serious! The world tree will protect us!” lol!

I rather think that the world-tree offers a “blessing of destiny” rather than “protection against death and calamities.”

And does not protect students but Mahora itself. It offers the warranty that whatever happens, Mahora will NEVER be destroyed. And indeed it does not happen. Either because Kirie lift the time or because UQ holder endigier the epidemic.
But in any case mahora survive. And the blessing will functioned!

          • cold_menthol says:

Can’t we just say that this zombie outbreak is on a different level from mahora-fest?
And the blessing itself is pretty much debatable in how strong and what kind of blessing it is.
After all, you also said yourself that Mei Sakura was just… speculating.

Btw, the spoilers say that there are still 36% who are safe, so it’s not that safe yet to say the teachers are functionally gone. Positively thinking, maybe those 36% are still safe thanks partly to the teachers, even if they probably won’t last long.. It’s of course also possible that some of (magical) teachers have already turned into zombies.

          • Seimei says:

I see the light! (heavenly choir sound ^^)

Thank you, thank you and THANK YOU AGAIN!

You are perfectly detailed what I was trying to tell ata Dargor alias “Mr. worshiper 3A!”

Cold menthol thank you! I feel less alone! (cry of joy (lol))

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

It is possible the teachers are being turned into zombies as well. Sayoko is pretty powerful and the element of surprise is still on her side.

  4. chaosprophet says:

The “Mahora Academy” on the beginning of this chapter was a mistake by Akamatsu. It was supposed to be Amanomihashira Academy. We do know it’s Mahora but now renamed after the elevator, but funny that Akamatsu would write it Mahora by mistake. It will be corrected on the volume version.
