Genshiken Nidaime chapter 108 Manga Review

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Yajima’s mother observes the her daughter’s guests, attempting to determine who the guy is among them. After she accuses her daughter of being the man in the group, the others area amused with Yajima’s mother’s personality. Rika sends Yajima and Hato to fetch Kuchiki and Madarame while Yajima’s mother attempts to discover whom the man disguised as a girl is.  Her next choice is Keiko due to the amount of makeup she wears.

Once the guys have been fetched, Kuchiki learns that the girls are planning to bathe and thinks he’s going to score by bathing in the same water as the girls, but gets shot down when he’s told he’ll have to bathe at the hotel. When Yajima’s mother sees Hato again, she’s been informed as to Hato’s gender. She’s supportive of Hato, but tells him that he can do better than Madarame or Kuchiki.

As Ohno, Angela, and Keiko emerge from the bathroom to the changing room, Yajima’s father enters, then exits. After the introductions, Sue and Ogiue enter the bath. Sue isn’t interesting in discussing her part in the Madarame harem, even though Ogiue thinks she and he are a good match.

Baths done, Rika has Kuchiki say some words before dinner. Kuchiki recounts his time at Genshiken and how they accepted him for who he was despite his flaws. When he brings up Ogiue’s introduction to the club, her remarks back have him apologizing and Keiko wondering aloud when this is going to come to an end. So Kuchiki wraps up his speech and Hato thinks that the same applies to him and how Genshiken has accepted him.

Thoughts/Review:

Bwah!ha!ha!ha!ha! Yajima’s mother is awesome. Her straight forward nature and ability to speak her mind made her very funny. Accusing Yajima of being a man was one thing, but then telling Hato he could do better than either Madarame or Kuchiki just made me laugh even more.

That aside, the trip hasn’t quite gone as I thought it might. We did get a bit of a push forward with the harem plot on a couple of angles. We had Keiko’s irritation at having to bathe with Angela, and Angela knowing that Keiko sees her as a big threat due to her large breasts.

Then you had Ogiue remark to Sue how she thinks Sue and Madarame were a best fit. Sue’s not out of it, but she did try to change the subject by groping Ogiue and using an anime quote.

Speaking of Sue, despite the ecchi nature of the bathing scene, I’ve never seen Sue looking cuter.

The main focus was on Kuchiki, and now that I’ve read the chapter, that’s were the focus should have been. After all, this is his graduation trip. I liked the trip down memory lane. It made me want to reread all the old volumes.

There was a bit of movement on the Yajima-Hato front. I liked that they got to have a bit of a chat about Hato’s manga.

I hope that the next chapter goes more into the Madarame harem story.  In the meantime, this was a fun, enjoyable chapter. ^_^
