AstroNerdBoy Potential Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-ohki OVA 4 news!

Hey gang!
One of the things that I’m still asked to this day is, “Will there be a Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-ohki OVA 4 series made?” My answer has always been based on Kajishima-sensei’s AIC interview from way back (no longer on the web…I should post it) where he said he didn’t know what OVA 4 would be about since OVA 3 wrapped up the story of Tenchi. However, in more recent times, Kajishima-sensei’s -If- doujinshi have shown what an OVA 4 could be about, so if there is one, I think that’s what it would be.
I get word today from a ton of sources that there’s a new Kajishima Onsen doujinshi out (Kajishima Onsen 15.03). Here are the covers.
Now, before anyone gets too excited, we don’t know much other than there is a lot of excited buzz coming from Japan. There are no scans yet. We don’t think this is an official announcement, more that it is news that the possibility of OVA 4 has suddenly grown.
I still think that if OVA 4 comes about, it will be based on what we’ve seen from the -If- doujinshi titles. Day in the life of Tenchi’s household is the kind of stories Kajishima-sensei loves to tell. Whether he also decides to show Kenshi’s training for War on Geminar is another guess.
If more info comes up, I’ll post it.

The recent crapfest Tenchi probably annoyed him so much he wanted to prove to the world how Tenchi should be done.
Well, even before Ai Tenchi Muyo was announced, Kajishima-sensei was saying he wanted to do something. I was thinking it was going to be a Paradise War series after a few novels were published. Then that changed with the publication of the -If- doujinshi.
That being said, should OVA 4 come about, no doubt, he’d like to show up that non-canon title. 😉
I’m actually really looking forward to this, if its a thing. Its a bit like Star Wars in that we always get disappointed with the result yet love the nick picking over all the parts on what could have made it better. Ahhh those were the days :’)
Yeah, those were the days — the anticipation as GXP was coming out, followed by the mega anticipation as OVA 3 was announced, followed by it finally arriving. (And those long waits between episodes. ^_^;)

what we should get for an ova is the backstory to why Kenshi was sent to geminar in the first place and what was to happen after. That story still has some bit left to fix

I’m confused. I thought that he had plans for at least two more OVAs. And besides OVA 3 never felt like the end of the story. More like the middle, just like OVA 2.
I’m not aware of him saying he had more after OVA 3. What I remember him saying was that after OVA 3, the story of Tenchi would be over. He likened it to the end of World War II. After the war, would there be stories that could be told? Yes. But the specific story of World War II ends when World War II ended.
Update: Actually, I’m getting a bit dotty in my old age and forget things. I’ll be adding all this Kajishima-sensei interview to the FAQ someday.
It had been years since I read this, and I remembered his remarks about no more OVAs. What he was referring to was stories dealing with Tenchi’s story. If we get an OVA 4, it will be this “chapter 2” that he mentions in the interview, which I think is what we were expecting — day in the life of Tenchi and company. The “war” would be raising kids in a harem and such.
I been rewatching the OVAs, still in early ones before the alternate universes/movies started watering down the storyline for Tenchi. Maybe It’s been too long since the original stories came out from Pioneer. There clearly was something bigger going on. Goddess/being that transcends universes looking at Tenchi for her purposes, Tenchi’s grandfather not wanting his unwanted Grandson from taking throne from his son though he walked away from it.
I didn’t like resumed OVAs of the newer core series Tenchi Muyo! It just didn’t seem to fit with what was done in the past.
I hope Kajishima is able pull it together and come up with something with substance.
I half hoped he was going to resume or do improved version of GXP since he had written up some additional stories for that genre.
Which reminds me, I still need to rewatch and review OVA 3. ^_^;
I would bet more on fluff, though in the vein of “day in the life of Tenchi’s harem” stuff.
Could OVA 4 be possibly the story involving Tenchi’s son and the sister of the first Emperor of Jurai? I know this is all pure speculation at this point. But seeing how other works like Naruto are continuing with the son’s adventures, makes me think it may apply here as well. Food for thought. ^^
I actually think that if OVA 4 comes about, it will use the -If- doujinshi as a basis, which shows Tenchi having been fruitful and multiplied with the different babes in the harem (or at least some of them). That’s the slice of life stuff Kajishima-sensei seems to so love.
Said son isn’t mentioned in -If-, but then I was thinking that said son came about after they left Earth and went to Jurai.
