UQ Holder Chapter 74 SPOILER Info (Update #2: Now with more images!)

Here is some SPOILER info for the upcoming UQ Holder chapter 74, courtesy of 2ch. (My review of UQ Holder chapter 74 should come out Wednesday.)

UQ HOLDER CHAPTER 74 SPOILERS

The UQ Holder chapter 74 goodness begins.^_^

Here is the spoiler in Japanese (as  best as I can tell).

OK, looks like Hoodie’s message continued. Looks like there’s an act of terrorism when a bomb explodes in the place where Afro was shopping. I think that thanks to Kirie, they are going to try to reset things so that no one is hurt in the explosion. And Kuroumaru detects the enemy (Hoodie?).

And, it looks like the manga is not going to be published next week.

Well, hopefully the ever gracious ChaosProphet can give us the full scoop if he has time.

Update #1: A spoiler page/image from this week’s chapter from 2ch.

UQ Holder Chapter 74

Certainly looks like burning city in the distance and Touta being grateful.

More updates if I get them.

Update #2: More images, from MK.

UQ Holder Chapter 74

Afro’s afro got larger, probably thanks to the explosion.  That initial images looks like Touta’s rage mode since the bandages seem to be breaking.  The bottom image is from that page I posted earlier, trying to show Kirie’s attraction.

Well, the chapter comes out tomorrow night.

  1. NML says:

    Akamatsu’s wife demand hiatus.

  2. mattcgw says:

The enemy that kuro detects is tsukiyomi.

  3. mattcgw says:

Might as talk about volume 4’s release, some panels are cropped most notable the full body shot of fate deflecting touta’s attack, to just a head and hand’s.

Tsukiyomi has one panel, where she has black scalea, then full-on robot eye’s, then just normal.
Chao is talked about being more immortal than them, by ikkuu.

Also, is the back of the volume, were kodansha usually puts advertisement for other manga, often attack on titan, sherlock bone (some weird maga that really has no place to be their) Fairy tail and vinland Saga!

Now, the fact that ALL of this are absent from the back, expect vinland saga, of which Kodansha has selling in the US, until 2017! http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-12-22/kodansha-temporarily-suspends-vinland-saga-manga-in-us/.82480
Leads me to believe that kodansha may very well drop publication of holder.

I do not see any publisher wanting to get the right’s to holder or being allowed to!

Especially after chapter 71, with the clone debacle, killing the already small fanbase, passion for the series.

Kodansha probably would make comparative more money by simlupubing, and not having the physical distribution overhead. As the volume’s hold very little value to the fanbase due to it’s lack of extra’s, thus cause difficulty in validating/justifying it’s purchase. It could just be a metaphorical sigh of relief, if they just stuck to digital viewership.

Also UQ Holder! will never get a anime adaptation, Even some alternate continuity seems like a long shot.

    • Seimei says:

      1. Uh you’ll excuse me, guy, but my volume 4 in French, Volume 5 of UQ holder is announced, as well as all other mangas that are absants the back of your volume in English.

So sorry to break your hopes of fans of Negima desappointed and spiteful, but it astonished me that the publication of UQ could be canceled. Unless you speak only for the case of the US, and not for Japan or Europe, in this case I could understand, but even in the case of the US only, it astonished me.

      2. Regarding the extrats. Should I remind you that has Kodensha themselves that in a survey, have requested Akamatsu’s removed the extras, late in Negima, if they think that the lack of extras in UQ is a shortfall, they ask to Akamatsu reintroduce in the following volumes, that’s all.

      3. “Especially After chapter 71, with the clone debacle, killing the already small fanbase, passion for the series.”

Really? And you basis on which to assert this? Know that in France, we welcome that rather favorably, although some are truly delighted because it avoided resume “classic pattern” inherited from Negima where each hero is the descendant of the preceding. And everyone hasn’t the obsession “who is Negi’s wife?” in their head! lol^^

You’ve felt based solely on your opinion? You think you represents the views of all readers UQ in Japan, the USA and Europe? I’ll find this is presumptuous! Me feedback I’ve had this clone story, instead revived the fanbase even Astro showed more interest in UQ (and even in the character of Tota !!!) since the last chapters!

But I suspect that some have to share your opinion, however, as I say I doubt that you are the most numerous. ^^

      4. “Also UQ Holder! will never get a anime adaptation, Even some alternate continuity seems like a long shot.”

When the fact that UQ holder is never adapted Anime, again, I think you presumptuous. The studios have only need one thing to make an adaptation of a manga. The Japanese public appreciates the manga, they do not need internationnal fanbase for that. Proof, many manga adapted into anime never go out of Japan, whether paper versions or adaptation. Sometimes even the adaptation that provides internationally renowned for the manga. After I may have misunderstood what you meant in that sentence ^^

Unless you speak only for the case of the US, and not for Japan or Europe, in this case I could understand, but even in the case of the US only, it astonished me.

He’s speaking of the US release.

hould I remind you that has Kodensha themselves that in a survey, have requested Akamatsu’s removed the extras, late in Negima,

This is the first I’m hearing of this. Negima had extras right up until the end.

The Japanese public appreciates the manga, they do not need internationnal fanbase for that.

Not as much as you might think, especially taking into account the linkage to Negima. The 2ch Negima spoiler threads were massively lively after spoilers were posted. Every month or so, we’d have to move to a new thread (1000 posts being the 2ch limit). With UQH, it is around three months before we have to go to another thread. That is very indicative of much less support.

        • Seimei says:

“This is the first I’m hearing of this. Negima HAD extras right up Until The End.”
Ah! I was talking about Negima-lexicons! This was not the only extras, you’re right^^

And I maintain, UQ Holder has NOT need international fanbase to be adapted animation. Many animated adaptation were made on manga TOTALLY unknown outside Japan. The studiots need only the Japanese fanbase. The fact that this is the sequel of Negima does not alter the case.
Often even the adaptatio anime manga which allows a gain popularity in others countries and even in Japan (Magi labyrinth of magic is an exemple, and also Jojo bizarre adventure or Nurarihyon no mago. Theirs selles exploded in high after their animated adapation (especially Magi) I am convinced that some Japanese mangaphiles patient up to the output of an animated adaptation of a manga for start it, even if they continue after the end of the anime with the paper format. For my part I would never pay attention to Magi or Nurarihyon no mago (a gift I did not know even existed at the time!) or Assassination classeroom without their animated adaptation. ^^
Not the real problem is how to cut Anime compared to the manga. Because until now the events keep coming in too “perfect” to be able to stop the anime in a coherent time of manga. Not to mention that contrary to what I thought, there is not enough material to make a series of 24 episodes. And I do not think studiots want to make a series of 13 episodes.

For cons, I would like to thank you for having restored a truth: UQ Holder is vand rather well in the USA, we will not get into the debate “best seller that Negima or not,” the heart of the matter is that sells well. ^^…

          • mattcgw says:

In much honesty, the reason the lack of extra’s is brought up by I and annoys me thus. Is because of attack on titan, in which Kodansha USA (because the UK, simply receives the imported volume’s for sell via amazon and waterstones interestingly enough, no local printing) placed a full colour satin (I believe) Advertisement at the back of negima 34.
Thus begging the question for myself, Why not put on one of akamatsu’s rare color pages at the back as well and call it an extra?!

deadman wonderland has colour pages in it’s volume’s and both series’ cost £8. (physically, I’m also aware that they have different publishers)

It’s quite inane, that after purchasing the volume; content is still sealed of to non-japan readers, in the case of UQ holder the color pages. That transcribe poorly in black and white, leaving only the internet to alleviate such issue’s.

          • AstroNerdBoy says:

Don’t forget, there are no extras in the Japanese tankoubon versions of UQ Holder.

          • AstroNerdBoy says:

And I maintain, UQ Holder has NOT need international fanbase to be adapted animation

And I’ll state again that UQ Holder doesn’t have near the popularity in Japan that Negima had. It is making money, but it isn’t a powerhouse by any stretch of the imagination.

Further, look at what happened with Negima. Kodansha decided that they wouldn’t bother doing full animated adaptations. After the crappy Negima! anime and subsequently stupid Negima!? anime, Kondansha just cherry picked pieces of the manga to create OADs, ending with a movie. Those OADs were never licensed outside of Japan. They were done just for the hardcore Japanese fans and no one else.

I just don’t see that much of a hardcore fanbase for UQ Holder in Japan. Not every manga gets an adaptation. Obviously, there could be some kind of anime adaptation, but at the moment, I don’t see it happening.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

Might as talk about volume 4’s release

I don’t think I have my volume yet. I have a stack of manga unread on one of my bookcases. I need to see.

Now, the fact that ALL of this are absent from the back, expect vinland saga, of which Kodansha has selling in the US, until 2017! http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-12-22/kodansha-temporarily-suspends-vinland-saga-manga-in-us/.82480
Leads me to believe that kodansha may very well drop publication of holder.

I doubt they drop UQ Holder. It isn’t selling like Neigma, but it is doing something in sales. Plus, most manga publishers are pretty much stuck with manga titles they’ve licensed, short of going out of business like TokyoPop or other such publishers.

As the volume’s hold very little value to the fanbase due to it’s lack of extra’s, thus cause difficulty in validating/justifying it’s purchase.

The Japanese tankoubons don’t have extras either. Akamatsu-sensei is already hard pressed for time even though he cut his page count by two per chapter. (The joys of getting older, and wanting a life outside of what you are known for.) I think he just doesn’t have the time to do much in the way of extras other than the occasional extra page or color page.

Also UQ Holder! will never get a anime adaptation, Even some alternate continuity seems like a long shot.

Yeah, I’d be surprised if UQH got an anime adaptation any time soon. I won’t go so far as to say “never” since UQH could grow in popularity, if Akamatsu-sensei finds his writing game again.

      • NML says:

I think UQ Holder will definitely get an anime at some point. Most shonen manga get an adaptation, even if it is only a 12 episode season I think it’ll definitely get at least one, whether it gets a season 2 is another story :p . Or maybe an OVA to test the waters.

Unless his experience with the Negima movie turned him off anime adaptations, I heard he was unhappy about it but that might be hearsay.

I feel like the last couple of chapters have Akamatsu channelling his writing with Negi through Touta, I’m surprised he didn’t do this from the beginning, Negi had some of the best character development I’ve ever seen in a shonen protagonist.

        • mattcgw says:

As to why why I place such a severity of odds, against a UQ holder! adaptation of any animated type of medium, is thus.

          1. Publisher? Funding, most of the time with anime adaptations, (primarily on-air series of 13-26 based on serialisation, with some exceptions) it is simply to push more volume’s via boosting awareness and thus popularity. Now, on to my primary example, Rosario+vampire had two anime series, which were used to just boost the popularity short term. (Since Ganzo only did two series’, and shueisha didn’t think it would drum up much more sales=profit, there are also investors to think about ETC, but I’m going to keep it simple) as well Jump serieses only ever considered in terms of 5-6 years then 15, if the current run of naruto is to be considered the expectation, thus the precedent and standard, for future ongoing series and Beelzebub being Cancelled after about 5 years, (this also seems to be case with other magazine’s if *the world god only knows* abrupt ending is able to fit with the negative correlation of 5 year vs longevity serialization data.
Currently Kodansha is sitting quite pretty, With all that titan money/franchising/hot topic/explosive popularity allowing it to almost beat one piece and leave all other established series in the dust, as well as fairy tail, often doing a million to two (they also become profitable again in 2013, ironically it means they were in profit while Love hina was serialized) simply means they have no need to! Why risk it when they have two multi-million selling title’s.
However, if it was only Fairy tail, I could see them pushing UQ holder with an anime adaptation via akamatsu as an established mangaka, that is exactly what they did in the early day’s of fairy tail, before it came into it’s own and then started pandering for maximum sales. In which link’s in with my next point.

          2. Marketing, how in the hell are they going to market UQ Holder! ? love hina was sensei’s breakthrough hit, negima at first was harem potter, with as much pantsu shot and cloth disarmament as possible, latter into a very epic, culture rich battle manga, with exquisite art, (for a weekly, IT has nothing on Kaoru Mori’s Otoyomegatari/bride stories) now, UQ’s problem should be evident; as it share’s negima’s world/universe (really wish we got some whimsical latin or greek word for negima’s world) Thus, is/would be considered, a sequel, further thus, be held the viewers exception of primarily, romantic resolution for negi, no commentary further needed, this creates an additional problem. in the new viewers’ (as Kodansha hope them to be readers and subsequent volume buyer’s) not knowing what is really going on, with the foreknowledge, that this series depends’ for big impact moment’s, most notably Fate returning to the false boss antagonist role/fate actually being in the series period, creating a huge deal of speculation, among the negima hopeful or touta’s last name being koneo. To new viewer this means NOTHING to very little!

Another example Touta’s parent’s as presented to both reader and viewer (of episode 1 of holder anime) at the time being killed and eva commenting on the being “tough” (being “tough” could just be having some OP HAX gimmick ability that isn’t nerfed, EG santa’s intangibility or obito’s kamui that made him pracilty the strongest character, while he had his mask on) now here’s where negima’s continuity throw’s up another issue, one of those people (known to the reader) is negi’s and konoka’s child, Eishun and Nagi’s grandchild and also koneoman’s great-grandchild, that lineage is insane, 4 of the most powerful characters relative, of which (the reader, with negima foreknowledge) will expect to have Magia Erebea and trained under Eva, was KILLED, by someone other than and equal power to the lifemaker.

To a reader that already set’s up the hype by an incredible amount, (who be these people(s), some OP mazoku clan from Venus, primdal demon’s after revenge on the decedent’s of the fujiwara/koneo priest’s that sealed them. The very fact I’ve wrote two paragraphs should drive the point home about how awkward and difficult it would be to try and gain new audience through a anime adaption that would need UFOTABLE/shingeki quality animation, since going average would only work against kodansha more than not (also because I have a dream where UFOTABLE, animate negima)
So in short, If UQ holder! had just been a stand alone series with a few easter eggs for negima fan’s (like lot’s of Expy’s, most notably eva who has the same backstory minus the mage of the beginning connection) , similar to fairy tail, I would state that it would be about 60% of holder getting an anime, it also be doing a lot better at this point (content-wise) due to it being a clean slate, and no calling Bullshit on no romantic resolution for negi/expectations. while UQ Holder’s expectation for an anime is about 8%

As I said, successful marketing, would just be about impossible to perform. Thus, leading to my next point.

          3. risk assessment=interest/translate to sales boost. UQ holder is doing too poorly in sales and probably rankings, kodansha investing money and finding investor’s and an animation studio that will not F***** them over in deliverance or in favour of a shueisha series. For a series that shows no promise, this is the reality that lie ahead for them with great certainty, if they pursued an anime adaptation, OVA’s are out of the question due to no limited edition’s big done and sale’s being too poor to support and sensei just being “adequate” with art and deadline’s, it would involve him creating another cover for the LD that would ship with the OVA.

Now, my thought process is laid bare for all to judge.

Also after reading up on MS4, I’m starting to why Seimei used the series as an example, it’s far more adapt comparison, so much so, I’m convinced akamatsu got hammered played metal gear, blacked out, find the outline’s for a manuscript to give him his setting/basis for UQ.

          • AstroNerdBoy says:

…, I’m convinced akamatsu got hammered played metal gear, blacked out, find the outline’s for a manuscript to give him his setting/basis for UQ.

            *lol* That makes me laugh.

        • AstroNerdBoy says:

I’m not so sure it will get an anime. Maybe it will. Negima just got OADs in the end which cherry picked places to animate (instead of making a proper anime adaptation). A.I. Love You never was animated.

I feel like the last couple of chapters have Akamatsu channelling his writing with Negi through Touta

I’ve suspected this for quite some time. That’s why I speculated that Touta was made to power up so quickly in order to be Negi without being Negi.

  4. mattcgw says:

On another VERY surprising note, I got this volume 5 days early, from a Physical retailer.
    Who knew.

  5. mattcgw says:

Also furthering elaborating on my dream, they have sensei coming to help rewrite some of first 70 chapter’s or so, also because they are the only Studio that could really handle all incantations well, since the fate series has plenty of deep middle eastern/western european culture throughout the series.

Also, it would seem that UQ holder’s genre shift into Immortal harem series, based on the spoiler is almost complete, we just need some random reason to visit a few other holder branches, with touta attracting even tsu tsu gaijin to him, we’ll be done.

Bet’s on, that it will be a quest to find negi’s staff (which has recently cross my mind, may staff carved from a blessed tree that Zeus like thus making it divine, consequently really effective against immortal youkai that claim to be equal to divinity) to do we go to whales, met the welsh UQ’s and merlin (because the union could be broken by this point, crapsack world and all) typical knight’s of the roundtable, lifemaker revealed to morgana le fey at on point, then to get the staff, go on a quest to find Excalibur.

Discover as; is typical that Nagi is descended from some of the most powerful welsh magister’s EVER, that are also rated to some decently powerful greek magisters, Nagi’s linage is so strong that once they do whatever to get access to Excalibur, they find his ancestor. Is the first springfield to possess magic, forged the blade. So his descendants and Arthur could wield the blade, thus the arc concludes’ with the lifemaker reanimating morganna, Totua fighting alongside Arthur, defeating morgana; once a drop of his bloods lands on Excalibur.
Releasing it from the stone and Touta using it to one-shot her, whom eva call’s magi equal to her prime (because plot-TWIST) and Touta get another freebee power-up.
that allows him to merge with kurobo and Ex, give him an armament/armor that make him fly, shift to a MILLION TONS and inflict holy damage that is 10X against any kind of half-breed.

    Hooray for PLOT
