ユーキューホルダー! Manga Review
UQ Holder Chapter 104
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
Mizore is not impressed with Shinobu’s pod racer, citing how she could get the best quality items for it. Touta breaks up their argument so they can have lunch.
Kirie observes their antics, then scolds Kuroumaru for not making progress with Touta. Kuroumaru tries to act like things are OK, but Kirie isn’t having that and even offers to reset time to all Kuroumaru to fix things. The offer is refused as Kuroumaru states support for whichever girl Touta ends up with. Kirie knows Kuroumaru is forcing the issue and states as much.
Karin saves Kuroumaru by arriving and stating that since Kuroumaru was a failure, Kirie should step up to the plate with Touta. Karin presses Kirie on the subject of her infatuation with Touta, causing Kirie to flee.
In her room, Kirie is attempting to relax by hitting the stock market and making more money. Touta and Mizore enter, startling her. Touta has cake and invites her to tea. However, the conversation is halted when Mizore notices Kirie’s computer beeping. Kirie has lost ¥300 million and blames Touta for it. She’s going to kill herself by cutting her throat to do a reset, but Touta stops her, assisted by Mizore.
Kirie is going for her backup death plan as their struggle takes them back to a closet where her save point is. She’s about to fall on it, so Touta causes them to flip so that she lands on him. She ends up kissing him as a result, causing her to panic since it is her first kiss. Kirie sees her save point is broken, but then realizes something is wrong as she took her emergency suicide ill, meaning she should have reset. It is then that Touta notices Mizore frozen in the middle of a fall.
Thoughts/Review:
So, the harem story moves its focus from Kuroumaru to Kirie after touching base with Shinobu and Mizore.
Akamatsu-sensei made another reference to Love Hina by having Shinobu call her pod racer “Tama-chan.” I wonder if he’ll actually reveal that Shinobu is the descendant of Shinobu from Love Hina.
Kuroumaru may be on the shelf for a moment, but the lovely girl Kuroumaru is clearly going to be brought back at some point, based on how the last chapter and this chapter went.
I’m looking forward to Karin getting her turn at the plate after her remarks in this chapter and her general disdain. I just want to see the “Useless-senpai” forced to acknowledge Touta in a way she hasn’t done before. I think it would be a hoot (and I like Karin, but she still needs shaken up).
I’m glad that Mizore isn’t acting like the ultra-clingy, jealous type. She may be ojousama to the max, but at least she’s not possessive.
As to Kirie, I think it could be interesting to see how her having frozen time so that she and Touta are caught in limbo causes her to face her feelings.
Eventually, I think we’ll have a battle harem for Touta. Hopefully, any battles they get into will be better crafted than some of the battles during the Magic World arc in Negima.
Anyway, I had no problems with this chapter. In addition to the harem continuation, I also hope we see a further exploration of Kirie’s powers and what impact her resets might be causing.

I guess this puts to bed the whether or not Kirie is really a young girl discussion since she refers to her “many, many years of life”.
The end of the chapter seems like good set up for Kirie to explain more about her immortality and hopefully the origins of it to Touta.
I wouldn’t say that yet. She can repeat one day as many times as she likes, so one week for normal person can be one year for her, at least mentally.
And as I stated, her doing that basically makes the entire world immortal, if that is the extent of Kirie’s immortality.
Well, Akamatsu-sensei gives himself a lot of wiggle room so that things could be read more than one way. So while your thought was the same as mine, I can also see Akamatsu-sensei saying, “Oh, what I meant by that was something else than what you thought I meant.”
Ok, Kirie ship set sail. This one looks good too. First kiss flag as well.
Dam… this ship is strong. At least stronger than Kuros and the rest of the crew except Yukihime.
Cant wait to see what happen next!!
I think Akamatsu-sensei had to work hard on this ship. Even though Kirie had given some signs of being attracted to Touta, the stakes had to be raised considerably in order to get the harem up.
After reading the chapter on a site since Crunchyroll didn’t seem to have it yet, I already encountered people who are saying ‘I am going to put this manga on the shelf until the battles come back. Each girl getting a turn to be main heroine is boring. – ”’
I am of the belief that all the girls are ‘Main Heroines’ and that that there isn’t just a singular heroine. Honestly, i am actually tired of those kinds of people.
Well, at least the rude half. I still like the ones who can actually talk reason. XD
But seriously, Kirie has to be related to Chisame. i mean, her compter set-up and hikikomori-ness in this is nearly the same way Chisame would act.
But I digress.
I am starting to think the Pactio system will come back (thats possibly why we have yet to actually see Ayaka and know what she was talking the Yukihime about) and the possibility of all of them being in Team/s for the tournament are a little bit more cemented. In my Opinion anyway,
Well, even if not related, she is that character-type for UQH.
I think there’s a good chance of that too, though I don’t want Touta to be the magister.
I can’t wait to see how everyone else is stuck frozen. I’ve also always been curious to what happens when Kirie’s save point gets messed up so I’m satisfied. Though I have to agree with some of the grumpier fans that I am ready for the tournament to start as well. I hope this will be the last side story and it will kick up a notch. Karin can have her own side story later.
Akamatsu-sensei has been all over the place with UQH. He’s already done tournament stuff, so I can’t imagine him doing a whole lot with a tournament.
“I’m looking forward to Karin getting her turn at the plate after her remarks in this chapter and her general disdain. I just want to see the “Useless-senpai” forced to acknowledge Touta in a way she hasn’t done before. I think it would be a hoot (and I like Karin, but she still needs shaken up”
Hell no! Karin being the only one around not buying into Touta hype is one of the things I like about her. Way better than all those drooling fangirls of his.
Anyway, we get another harem chapter, which makes me think that Akamatsu got hit by a writer block and fallen back on what he knows. I really wish the plot moved from showing us how everyone loves Touta and into something actually interesting.
So far Karin has been consistent and true in her actions. Her main focus is being with, protecting, and serving under Eva/Yukihime. She was saved by Eva, and maybe sometime in future I hope will show the history between her and Eva. Her attempt to have at least one of the other girls stop Tōta’s goal of being with Eva and from interfering has failed.
But Tōta is also influencing her, and everyone else is to scared to confront her about her feelings. Seeing the trend, Karin will probably be part of this too, maybe her ship is being slowly built.
It makes me wonder that there are several other ‘males’ that are just as good or better than Tōta, and none of the UQ Holder girls were attracted to them, and now only focus on the new member Tōta? I dunno, are the other males already married or something else where they showed no romantic interest in the girls? I know, this is a shouen. Maybe other relationships would be too much of a distraction to the story of Tōta.
I would like to see what ability Mizore has – is it the same from her mom, or something different. I would like to know more of Karin’s power and why it’s her source of despair. I’m beginning to agree that maybe Akamatsu is having a creativity block or something and is having problems with advancing the story, or it will take chapters to show the power within all the UQ holders first, so there is not much advancement past the harem development. Its almost the start of a new year too — and more delays due to the upcoming holidays.
Yeah, I agree here. Once Eva planted the seed in Karin’s mind, it has germinated and is starting to grow, howbeit slowly. Karin took part in the last harem hijinks. She may have used a deck brush for Touta’s back, but she still participated.
We don’t know whom her mom is. Ayaka is reported to be her grandmother (or great grandmother), though I wouldn’t be surprised if a cloning/homunculus experiment was involved in creating Mizore.
Ha!ha! I hear ya, but I think Karin will be bowing down. 😉 I love Karin as a character, but she really needs to be shaken up. (Of course, her powers make it so that if she’s involved in a mission, Akamatsu-sensei has to make her useless so that Touta can shine, which is unfortunate.)
Another harem chapter in a row? Sigh, I’m starting to get a bit tired of it.
However, I have to admit that seeing Kirie making that hilarious face and desperately willing to commit suicide in order to get back her money made me crack a smile. That sure is a convenient ability!
At least it seems we’re going to learn a bit more about kirie, it’s better than nothing…
Heh. The Japanese seem more into the harem.
Yeah, that was funny. I figure she did this a lot in order to become ultra wealthy.
Doesn’t Kirie have a problem aside from being frozen in time with Touta?
She chomped on her suicide pill, but her reset button broken….thus…she could die when time resumes for her and him. I doubt that would happen but she did say that she already took it.
Sad thing is she never been with anyone in her what? 80 years of life perhaps longer, she from 20th Century or beginning of the 21st.
I hope the next chapter addresses the suicide pill thing, but we’ll see.
Well, such is the life of a recluse. I get the feeling that it has only been since Touta’s arrival that Kirie has become active in UQH.

This upsets me, why didn’t we get something similar on Volume 4 or 6, with fate and negi & negi respectively. They appear in significan way and would’ve made amazing covers vverses the boring in motion we’ve been having.
Pseudo answer: Eva sells more than the others? 😉
They are immortal and they are frozen in time now…lol
I wonder if all the people are like Mizore and they are the only ones who can move… What can they do so that everything to be like it was before? If there was someone that would not have taken effect, maybe it would be helpful or maybe Kirie knows do it because she trained a lot about spells with Dana.
When I saw the scene of the kiss… I thought the first kiss of Touta was an accident…. Although he didn’t notice it.
When Kirie lost all that money, it will be the bankrupt lol
I think these chapters are to see the characters have more relationship with Touta.
I wonder if after Kirie, the next chapter will be Karin’s time or Evangeline’s time…
I would see Evangeline training Touta.
I don’t know, but I think Fate will enter by the principal door of the place to go to participate in the tournament in some chapter. XD
Karin so that she stays with Evangeline, she fixes everyone up with Touta XD
If she really is in love with Evangeline, she could tell her. At least, her feelings. Because if she tries to avoid everyone so that Evangeline doesn’t stay with someone, Evangeline will always stay alone.

More like she knows the seed Eva planted in her mind about her being with Touta at the end of time has Karin desperate to keep that seed from bearing fruit. It has already germinated though, and Karin knows it. 😉
Well, those were some interesting developments. First off, we finally have our first kiss. Only took 104 chapters and it was accidental, but it was bound to happen sooner or later. Akamatsu just had to finally get around to all the harem stuff that’s obligatory for all of his manga. In both Love Hina and Negima the male lead got their first kiss in chapter 23 (yes, I looked it up), Keitaro from Mutsumi and Negi from Asuna, though the Narutaki twins did kiss Negi on the cheeks in chapter 13. Akamatsu was really slow on getting to the romance stuff in UQ Holder.
The other interesting development is the “glitch” with Kirie’s immortality power. I certainly didn’t see that one coming. It’ll be interesting to see how they get out of this jam. Maybe it’ll give some more insight on what is one of the more interesting types of immortality in fiction.
I think he was trying to avoid it, to be honest. Unfortunately, since UQH lacks focus, it drifts all over the place and so sales are way off compared to Negima. I think the harem stuff is his way of trying to gin up sales again.
