Here is some SPOILER info for the upcoming UQ Holder Chapter 122, courtesy of 2ch. (My review of UQ Holder Chapter 122 should come out late Tuesday night or Wednesday, U.S. time, depending on when Crunchyroll publishes the chapter.)

About Mizore’s beloved one!(←I forgot to write the subtitle)—
btw: How many syllables does Kirie’s name have? If you now the answer you know why Kirie’s name is written that ‘strange’ way.
I always figured she had three syllables, but never knew why they were using the obsolete “we” (ヱ) katakana character.
Regarding the story in the chapter, +1 for the Mizore flashback.
Update #1: Some spoiler images. (First one is NSFW.)
Now you undertand what はだY means. 😉
So the loli ecchiness continues (which is not a surprise).
More updates, if needed.
Update #2: One last update from MK before Crunchyroll (hopefully) released the chapter.
My review will hopefully come around later.
Serious question: If Touta just a grandson of Konoka Koneo, and married Mizore Yukihiro. Would he be marrying up? Or would that depend on accolades their Grandparent achived in the magical world/Inverse Mars.
The Konoe family is an important one, but mainly for the temple and magic. The Yukihiro family is also a very important family, but on a larger scale thanks to the global and interplanetary business ties they formed by allying with Negi. Right now, the Konoe family has nothing to do with Touta, Isana and Honoka not withstanding. So even though he has the Konoe family name, he doesn’t appear to be the heir of the Kantou Magic Association, nor of large temple in Kyoto.
With that in mind, at this present time in the story, Touta would be going from an essential nobody with the Konoe family name and the grandson of hero Negi to becoming the husband of Mizore. In such a marriage, Touta would likely take the family name Yukihiro.
Now, should the Konoe family make Touta an heir or the like, then that changes the political dynamics involved in a marriage. By the end of the series, Touta could make the Konoe family the most powerful in Japan and any marriage would be someone on his level or coming to his level, not him being elevated to the spouse’s level.
Yup the ヱ, a long e, makes it clear that her name consists of 3 syllables and is pronounced Ki-ri-e
I would have thought that there were three syllables without the use of ヱ. There are two characters in the “Wa” line that have been made obsolete (ゐ/ヰ/Wi and ゑ/ヱ/We). So for “we”, I was taught that え/エ replaced ゑ/ヱ, but rather than have it on the kana chart twice, we get the blank spaces there.
You are correct in everything, but in Japanese two vocals can be shorten, i.e. look at
前/まえ/before
or
霊/れい/spirit
it only has one syllable. Now with hindsight I realized that I actually don’t know if
(consonant)い – え
can also be shortened *embarrassed*
But I’m pretty sure that ヱ stands for a long e
*half saving my butt there*
You may be right. I never asked that specifically when I was taking Japanese class. I was just shown the old hiragana and katakana chart from Japan when I asked why there were two blanks in the current kana charts.
Another thing to consider about Kirie’s name using the ヱ katakana is that it might also indicate Kirie is older than any of us even realizes, coming from a time when the character was still in popular use. (Just a wild theory.)
Place your bets here!
Who will win? 😮
Is it Kirie, Shinobu, or Mizore?
Me: I pick none because I’m betting on the Twins (Isana/Setsuna = Space Pilot)
:’D
Harem ending all the way. 😉
I was completely shocked, myself. (^_~)
Given current trends… is the next big hit going to be about a 25-year-old hikikomori who travels the country managing his ten 10-year-old sisters’ musical group while they all try to seduce him backstage? (•́﹏•̀) Sounds believable to me, especially if they range from an ä-cup masegaki to a triple-H dojikko. (⌣_⌣)
😆 “K-On! The Next Generation” 😉
It’s going to be harem… Touta has Negi’s ability to attract girls no matter who it is, and does not seem to be completely idiotic or dense when it comes to their feelings, not counting the genderless person.(forgot how to spell name)
Welp… yep.
Kuroumaru. 😉
