Hayate the Combat Butler Chapter 534 Review

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Hayate the Combat Butler Chapter 534Chiharu goes to change her clothing, leaving Hayate with Ruka. Ruka asks if Hayate has kissed anyone since her. Hayate denies this, then recalls Konoha kissing him. Hayate’s pause lets Ruka know the truth. As such, Hayate defends himself by telling Ruka the girl kissed him. Ruka teases Hayate about his popularity, which he denies.

Chiharu says goodbye to Ruka before departing for Nagi’s home. While Chiharu helps Nagi with her manga, she asks Nagi if she is in love with Hayate. Nagi concedes the point, then tells the story of how she and Hayate met. Chiharu now sees Hayate as a lolicon. Since Nagi figures she and Hayate will marry, Chiharu states that Nagi will need money. When Nagi asks why, Chiharu tells her that Nagi will need the money to keep the attention of a lolicon.

Chiharu’s words offend Nagi, so Chiharu lays out her case. Nagi has to concede Chihari’s points. However, the conversation causes Chiharu to reveal her parents are getting a divorce. Chiharu concludes her shocking revelation by stating that money is important to Nagi’s future with Hayate.

Ruka prepares to leave, telling Hayate she’s glad he’s not in love with someone since this event would shock her. Because of this, Hayate has a thought. If the explosion of negative emotion can be accomplished through romantic love, maybe he should love someone for that purpose, to help Nagi.

Thoughts/Review:

She was only in two chapters, but Ruka takes her exit. I have a feeling she’ll be back in the near future.

Ruka teasing Hayate about him kissing another girl after her amused me. It is rather clear that she is still in love with Hayate.

Of course, Nagi’s conversation with Chiharu made for some very amusing moments at Hayate’s expense. It is cute seeing Nagi and Chiharu blush so much. I also like it that Nagi opened up about her feelings for Hayate. It isn’t surprising that Nagi believes she and Hayate will marry.

Hayate the Combat Butler Chapter 534

I find it interesting that Hata-sensei appears to be using Chiharu has a vehicle to get Nagi to care about the Sanzenin inheritance. Throughout the entire manga, she’s never been that interested in it. So Chiharu branding Hayate as a lolicon, thus becoming uninterested in girls by the time they hit their 20s, forces Nagi to now consider obtaining the inheritance for the money and keeping Hayate’s interest.

(As an aside, it is a shame about Chiharu’s family, but it gives her an excuse to remain in Yukari-chan house as a renter.)

Hayate the Combat Butler Chapter 534

Transversely, Hayate is attempting to gain the Sanzenin legacy so that Nagi will receive protection from it for life. I’m not sure if Hata-sensei has anything specific in mind when he had Hayate think back to his romantic encounters with Ayumu, Athena, Hina, and Ruka. Hayate could be thinking of using one of those girls to open a pathway by loving them and leaving them.

However, I still think that Nagi will be the one opening the path. I think the “bomb” of misunderstanding that was set at their initial meeting will soon go off. Nagi will come to understand that Hayate’s feelings for her aren’t the same as her feelings for him.

I also still think that when all is said and done, Hata-sensei will have Nagi and Hayate hook up since that was the original plan.

In the end, Hayate the Combat Butler chapter 534 is a good one, merging humor and plot. I’m looking forward to the next chapter.

Nice chapter!!! I wonder if Chiharu and Nagi will be startled if Hayate approaches A-than next and the lolicon misunderstanding rises to a new hilarious level haha. After all, she is rich and at the moment is physically younger than Nagi, and in a conversation Hayate can really say that she is the prospect of ideal to him (as she is in fact Athena)…. I can’t wait haha.

All said, I’m on the Hayate x Athena ship.

Ha!ha! True. And speaking of Ah-tan, we’ve not seen her for a while.

Ditto, though as I’ve stated, I think Hata-sensei is going to only sail the Hayate x Nagi ship.

Just got a chance to catch up, so I’m lucky wrt the timing of the reviews – and thank you for writing them. (^_^) In no particular order…

    * Like you said, the shock was the funniest moment of the previous chapter – imo, one of the funniest in recent memory. It took several seconds for me to realize it wasn’t imagined or some other gag explanation, then I had the same reaction as Hayate. (☉_☉)
    * I had a gut feeling that Hata-sensei wanted us to know at the end of the Ruka arc that Hayate really did have feelings for her, and she wasn’t just a toss-off plot device. I know it’ll go nowhere, but the notion that the magazine almost sent Hayate to the Royal Garden made me smile a bit.
    * I’m not sure how I feel about how easily manipulated Nagi is wrt Hayate lately – here, at the beginning of the contest arc, and it seems like I might be forgetting another instance.
    * This chapter had a definite feel of “Move along, move along” wrt storyline, but I’m glad it hasn’t been overmuch forced. By now I would have thought Hata-sensei would be bicycling along dragging us in his wake, but it was more like a few gentle shoves in the back. (^_~)
    * I think you’re right about Nagi being the one who opens the path… while reading, I was actually half-expecting Chiharu to hear Nagi’s story and say “That doesn’t exactly sound like a confession, you know” (leading to an argument, confronting Hayate, etc).
    * I’m really starting to wonder about your crack (forgive me, I only mean “apparently unlikely”) theory that Hayate is actually Nagi’s dad. When I hear crack theories, I’m used to soon seeing something (in new chapters, or rereading old ones) that makes it apparent they don’t work… but for this one, I’m still waiting.

      You’re welcome. ^_^

I had a strong feeling that Hata-sensei wanted us to know at the end of the Ruka arc that Hayate really did have feelings for her, and she wasn’t just a toss-off plot device.

I agree there. Looking back, Ruka served a lot of purposes in pushing both Nagi and Hayate along. I expected Ruka to show back up in the manga before all was said and done. I’m now starting to wonder if the reminder that she had been a candidate to open up a pathway comes back into play. Not that she would open the path, but she’d be an instrument to cause the path to open.

I was actually half-expecting Chiharu to hear Nagi’s story and say something like “That doesn’t exactly sound like a confession, you know”

I think the reason Chiharu doesn’t say that is because the original Japanese text doesn’t translate well to English. In the original Japanese, Hayate’s words are words of a confession and easily seen that way. But they have a double meaning, and the second meaning is what Hayate meant (obviously). So when Nagi recounts the story and speaks Hayate’s words, Chiharu isn’t going to be thinking Hayate means anything other than he’s interested in a younger girl and thus is a lolicon. 😆

I’m really starting to wonder about your (forgive me, I only use the word in the sense of “apparently unlikely”) crack theory that Hayate is actually Nagi’s dad. When I hear crack theories, I’m used to seeing something (in new chapters, or rereading old ones) within a short time that makes it apparent they don’t work… but for this one, I’m still waiting.

Ha!ha! I will laugh and laugh if that crack theory comes true somehow.

Glad you are back up to speed. 😀
