境界のRINNE ep 39 Kyoukai no RINNE 39 SPOILER Summary/Synopsis: Rokumon helps an old cat move her belongings into the room next to his and Rinne's. Meanwhile at school, Renge is acting contrite, so Rinne is willing to give her a pass. After school, Tsubasa and Sakura go to Rinne's room, wondering if Rinne is doing the right thing. Rokumon comes in with tea, which causes the trio to be enslaved to Renge. She makes Tsubasa clean her place while Rinne is sent to gather souls. Sakura is attached to the Fake American Damashirei that looks like Marylin Monroe. Sakura gets lots of male admirers, but because Rokumon made weak tea out of habit, the effects of the tea wear off and Renge is foiled. Renge provides free Protective Straps as a sign of going right. As such, there's no supernatural activity, which means Rinne and Rokumon aren't getting paid and are really hungry. The straps were made from almost expired materials, so when they expire, spirits return in droves. Sakura realizes it is the straps, so she has Miho and Rika spread the rumor of the straps being cursed. She gathers them all and takes them to Rinne's room. Renge thinks she's won, but because Rinne is so poor, the straps absorb the poor aura and repel all the spirits, again foiling Renge. Thoughts/Review: Although I had some laughs in this episode, Renge has quickly become a one trick wonder horse, which is unfortunate. The funniest part of the episode came from Renge making Tsubasa and Rinne her slaves. I laughed at how they got such enjoyment over being able to punch each other. However, she then forces them to hug which made things even funnier. I also found it amusing seeing Sakura act like an idol. The second story had some amusing moments, mostly dealing with Rinne's extreme poverty being such that it foiled Renge's plans. Still, as I said, Renge has become a one dimensional character. It seems her only goal is to try to get back and Rinne, Sakura, and Tsubasa. That's boring and makes Renge of limited future use unless she grows beyond that.
