Sweetness and Lightning 08
Amaama to Inazuma episode 08
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
Kouhei is absent from school, causing Kotori to become worried and miss him. Kouhei is at Tsumugi’s school, participating in parent’s day there. When they get back home, Kouhei tells Tsumugi that he’ll get her a new bag for school, but Tsumugi wants to keep her old one since her mom gave it to her. Tsumugi requests Ika to Satoimo no Nimono – squid with taro root stew, which Kouhei tells Kotori. Since Kouhei has no recipe, Kotori gets one from her mom. Adding okra to the mix, the two, along with Tsumugi, make the stew as well as rice and miso soup. As Kouhei and Tsumugi are leaving, Kotori gives them leftover stew, saying that the leftovers will taste even better tomorrow. Kouhei and Tsumugi agree to patch her old bag.
Thoughts/Review:
Sweetness and Lightning 08 is another episode into wholesome goodness.
It was both humorous and touching when Kotori starting stress eating when she thought something bad had happened to Kouhei or Tsumugi.
That’s it. When Kotori graduates, she has to marry Kouhei and become Tsumugi’s new mama. 😉
Speaking of Tsumugi’s mama (not sure why “mama” needs to be translated, but whatever), it was touching when Tsumugi didn’t want to stop using her pink bag because it is the one her mom gave her. I liked how Kouhei’s desire to give her a new bag ended up resulting in an apple patch covering the stain on the bag. Now Tsumugi’s bag has elements from her deceased mom and her living dad.
Parent day at Tsumugi’s school provided a few laughs, thanks to Mikio and his need to take a dump. Yeah, I’m still a kid sometimes. 😛
This episode’s food dish made me think of just how different Japanese culture is on foods compared to most American’s idea of food. As a kid Tsumugi’s age, I don’t think I would have wanted to eat squid. I certainly have no desire to eat it as an adult. But in this episode, that’s what Tsumugi wanted, so that’s what she got.
Heh! And then there was Tsumugi’s squid dance. 😀
I will admit that if I had a Japanese girlfriend or wife, I’d try the squid dish they had in this episode for her sake (assuming she liked it).
In the end, Sweetness and Lightning 08 is just another episode of delightful wholesomeness with a side of Japanese cooking.
