SPOILER Summary/Synopsis

Izetta: The Last Witch 10Finé, Sieg, and the Royal Guards escort her out of the palace as Germania hunts her down. Elsewhere, White Witch Sophie uses V-1 rockets and magic to decimate Eylstadt forces. Major Obermeyer with troops and Royal Guard snipers along with a long Eylstadt Air Force fighter mount a rescue for Izetta, allowing Obermeyer to get her to safety. Major Berkman returns with Sophia to Germania, where Emperor Otto promotes him to Lt. Colonel. Sophie is not happy at having to wait to finish off Eylstadt and Finé.

Izetta: The Last Witch 10A month later, Finé and Lotte are there when Izetta finally wakes from a memory dream. The Royal Court and surviving troops are in an ancient, hidden, mountain fortress underground. Seig confirms to Izetta his belief that Sophie is the White Witch of legend, who will show none of them mercy. Sieg explains that Sophie has a Magic Stone, which drains all magic of an area. Sieg states that his family is part of the legend that sold Sophie to the Inquisition. While Izetta was in Britannia, he researched the legend and found proof it is true as well as the truth of Sophie’s power.

Izetta: The Last Witch 10Meanwhile, Sophie uses the Magic Stone to gather magic to fuel hundreds of V-1 rockets as Captain Basler leads fighter planes as part of the invasion of Britannia. Major Obermeyer reports the attack on the capital Londenion to the Court. In Germania, Sophie is getting treatment as use of the Magic Stone is killing her. Plans are in place to supply her with a replacement body, but she’s only interested in finalizing her revenge on Eylstadt. Elsewhere, Berkman gets a briefing from Basler, then reveals the Emperor has fired him for being too successful.

Izetta: The Last Witch 10As Emperor Otto reveals his global domination plans to his military leaders, the crippled Izetta desperately tries to make use of her legs. Finé’s staff encourage her to seek asylum, which she does not want to do. However, when Izetta frantically declares she can still fight, Finé realizes her choices have caused Izetta’s problems. As such, Finé apologizes to Izetta and leaves the room crying. Izetta tries to get to a wheelchair, but fails. Bianca comes to her aid and holds her as she cries. Sieg enters the room, revealing he has the other half of the Magic Stone, should Izetta truly want to continue the fight.

Thoughts and Review

Well, I was unavoidably delayed in watching Izetta: The Last Witch 10, but the episode turned out to be really interesting and good.

Izetta: The Last Witch 10

Germania Conquers…Mostly

Take one powerful army, add one powerful air force, then top that with a powerful witch who through the use of a Magic Stone is able to overcome a witch’s weakness and you have the power to conquer the world. It is no wonder that Emperor Otto has plans to do just that.

Izetta: The Last Witch 10

After Sophie’s and Captain Basler’s devastating attack on Britannia’s capital, I found it interesting that we weren’t shown Germania invading the island nation. Instead, we have an eerie parallel to our own World War II, whereby Germany pounded Britain with rockets and bombs, but never invaded. Instead, they chose to invade the Soviet Union. I get the feeling that the anime is going to follow the same path.

Izetta: The Last Witch 10

On the shocking front, Emperor Otto fires Berkman after having recently promoted him. I didn’t expect this turn of events. I figure it mirrors some incident in our world where Hitler fired some important military leader for being too good at what he does.

Izetta: The Last Witch 10

Sieg

Sieg had two functions in this episode. First, his family has a role in the legend of the White Witch. While the main purpose here was to provide further exposition about the history of the White Witch, it also provides an possible dilemma for Sieg. Will he try to make amends for the things his ancestors did to the White Witch?

Izetta: The Last Witch 10

Secondly, Sieg provides the severely injured Izetta with the other half of the Magic Stone. Here, Sieg remains true to his established character in doing anything to save his country. Since we know the Magic Stone is ultimately deadly to its user, Sieg is using Izetta’s desperate eagerness to save Finé. As such, he’s willing to let Izetta die to save his country, something Finé could never do.

Izetta: The Last Witch 10

The Witches

In some ways, it is surprising that Sophie is going along with Germania. If her goal is merely to gain revenge on Eylstadt, then why run the risk of dying before that goal happens? However, she’s willing to be used to lead the attacks on Germania’s enemies and put her ultimate revenge on hold. And Emperor Otto would use her to her death.

Izetta: The Last Witch 10

As to Izetta, now that she has the other half of the Magic Stone, I figure we’ll have a rematch between the two witches. Unfortunately, I can only see a tragic end for both characters.

Izetta: The Last Witch 10

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

OK, time to wrap this up since I’m so far behind.

  • I loved the rescue of Izetta. I’m glad that Major Obermeyer lived. Not sure what happened with the other troops or the Royal Guard snipers.
  • I’m also glad to see the Eylstadt Air Force in greater action.
  • Hopefully, nothing bad happens to Lotte’s family.
  • I wonder if Germania will attempt to create Exenium on their own to fuel their rockets and such.
  • Speaking of rockets, it was pointed out to me that Sophie was using V-1 rockets in the previous episode. I hadn’t noticed that, but they were used here. I wish the anime had used the eerie buzz sound the V-1 rockets actually made.

Izetta: The Last Witch 10

In the end, Izetta: The Last Witch 10 was a good episode, containing several surprises.

Hi ANB! Make sure you have time for yourself! That is very important too!

Noticed a typo I think – can be corrected later – under Germania Conquers you have:

After Izetta’s and Captain Basler’s devastating attack

I think you meant Sophie’s and Basler’s attack.

I think Heir Otto is also going nuclear. There was one brief image that looked at first like some sort of water mine – a round ball with nodes all over it. Which was shown around when Otto said to Sophie to be patient. After thinking and remembering what the Manhattan Project test bomb looked like and how the bomb worked, the anime is a cleaned-up showing no external wires, smaller version of it. I have a feeling Germania is gonna use the crystal’s power as to fuel or create the atomic explosion, with Sophie guiding or placing or setting off the bomb herself. That would definitely take Austria/Elystadt off the map (what Sophie wants to destroy Elystadt). Dealing with this bomb I think will probably conclude the series. I’m wondering since Berkmann is now outcast and a target to kill by Germania, he will inform the allies of the bomb.

Not sure if it was intentional, or accidental, or copyright issues, the details for the V-1 in this anime has swept/angled wings like the ME262 (MiG15, F86). The real V-1s had straight wings perpendicular to the body (ie Fw190). It made the anime ones look like jets.

I’m really enjoying this anime, and its concept. I wish there were more episodes.

Fixed the typo. Thanks for the correction. I have a notorious habit of thinking one thing and typing something else.

As to the bomb, now that I think about you, you are very likely right — a magic-based nuclear bomb.

As to the V-1, I hadn’t paid close attention to the wings. That does make me wonder why the production team did what they did.

I couldn’t remember where I exactly saw that bomb in the episode, – looked at the video again, and its around 15 mins into it. Sorry. My Error. Its not when Berkmann is with Sophie in front of Otto, but when Sophie is in the lab, and the female germanian officer is talking to Sophie about her body replacement, where Sophie didn’t care, is when they showed the round silver metallic (nuclear) bomb. whew – thought I imagined it when I didn’t see it when Otto was talking to Sophie.
