Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:

Tsukasa observes that Nasa has been reading shoujo manga during his breaks. When she notices how engrossed he is, she decides to prank him. She places Toast on his head, who proceeds to chomp Nasa’s hair. Tsukasa suppresses a laugh, then comes to the rescue. However, Tsukasa wants to pull more pranks on him. Since he’s still reading a shoujo manga, she decides that’s OK to do.

She offers a massage, but tickles him instead. Tsukasa pretends to be innocent, but again tickles him. Nasa realizes her game, so she concedes. However, she does wonder why he’s reading shoujo manga. Nasa doesn’t want to say the real reason, as it embarrasses him. Tsukasa presses him and kisses him, so he gives in and explains his reasoning. He wants to master expressions of love for Tsukasa. After reading shoujo manga for research, he found himself hooked.

Tsukasa approves of this, but then asks to see the results of his training. He provides her words expressing his love, which touches her. After that, she went on to ask for more examples of how much Nasa loves her.

Haha! Hata-sensei certainly is giving the marital advice for guys in Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 84. And although I’ve never been married, from my married friends and family members, I feel this is pretty spot on.

Shoujo Manga

I wonder how much shoujo manga Hata-sensei has read of late. It makes me wonder if he read some for his own marriage. I get the feeling from the Tonikaku Cawaii series that he may be influenced somewhat by shoujo manga. I say this because while there may be a romantic element in shounen manga, it is usually kept to a minimum. Hata-sensei’s previous work, Hayate the Combat Butler, seems to be a typical way for shounen titles to deal with romance.

However, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 84 continues the trend of the series to go heavier into romance areas. This entire chapter is dedicated to how a young husband and wife might behave. You have Nasa trying to figure out how to keep his wife happy. You have Tsukasa enjoying being with Nasa, which includes practical jokes on him. But she loves hearing his sweet talk when he gives it.

Nevertheless, I enjoy the romance story elements. It is adorable seeing Nasa and Tsukasa together as a married couple. Plus, it is wholesome. I love that.
