SPOILER Summary/Synopsis
Shirou and Sakura prepare to go home from school as the snow moves in. Shirou heads out to do his grocery shopping. Meanwhile, Taiga holes up in the Archery Club room with a kotatsu she brought from home.
Shirou comes home and starts making nabe with fish. Sakura and Rider come by with clams and such, so that gets added as well to make a seafood nabe . Taiga shows up with mikans, even though Shirou has tons of oranges already. After the nabe, Shirou serves zosui.
That evening, company leaves. Saber pours ocha for Shirou and herself. Saber expresses how thankful she is to have shared a meal with everyone over the time she’s been with Shirou. And she expresses her personal gratitude to Shirou, which he reciprocates.
Thoughts/Review
Interestingly enough, Today’s Menu for Emiya Family 13 is actually an adaptation of chapter 1 from the source manga. But it worked for the order it was presented in for the anime.
Killing Time
I’ve eaten a lot of Japanese foods, but I have to say that I’ve never had nabe nor zosui. And after Today’s Menu for Emiya Family 13, I want to eat this more than ever. 😂
That said, I did note that this episode didn’t have a lot going for it. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t lovely for what it was. But it seemed like the writers had a tough time padding the episode out. From what I’ve seen of the first volume of the manga, all of the anime episodes are padded out. Its just that those had meaningful padding that enhanced the episode. This episode’s padding was mostly of no consequence.
Still, it was a lovely episode for what it was worth.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
In the end, Today’s Menu for Emiya Family 13 was a lovely conclusion to the series. While the episode’s padding may have been meaningless, it was still nice for what it was.
Anything on your radar for the Winter season? Looking through the list next season seems pretty barren.
Railgun S for sure, though I shudder to think how the official subtitles might be, assuming it gets a simulstream. And of course, finish out the FGO Babylonia series. That’s pretty much it for new stuff. As such, there are older titles I want to dust off and watch, including another in the Fate franchise.
