Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files {Rail Zeppelin} Grace note 13
Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files 13
ロード・エルメロイⅡ世の事件簿 -魔眼蒐集列車 Grace note- 13
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis
Gray and Waver return to the clock tower to recuperate from their injuries. After they are released, Waver remarks to Gray his lament at not having saved Father Karbo (Karabo). The pair find Adashino eating on the patio of a cafe. She briefs him on some follow up points of the Rail Zeppelin case. During their chat, Adashino reveals that Dr. Heartless is her brother-in-law. This explains her interest in helping Waver.
Back at the Tower, Olga comes to see Waver and Gray. She encounters Reines, who informs her that the pair are gone. As they chat, Reines and Olga become friends and allies. Later, Gray is getting groceries and encounters Melvin. During their chat, Melvin reveals he has the Velvet Magical Crest as collateral from Waver for borrowing money. As the two chat, Gray realizes that Waver may leave her for the Holy Grail War.
Sometime later, Svin is promoted to Pride rank at an official ceremony. Waver marvels that another student has surpassed him. Other powerful folks in the Tower see Waver as having accomplished a lot. Following the ceremony, they have a party in Waver’s classroom. Afterward, Waver and Gray return to his rooms in the Tower. They have a chat, where Gray thanks Waver for bringing her out of her village. She asks if he is leaving. Waver informs Gray that he withdrew from consideration from the Holy Grail War.
As such, Gray is finally able to give Waver the present she bought. In turn, Waver requests that Gray remain with him to deal with Dr. Heartless and Faker. She happily accepts. Later, he falls asleep on the couch. In his dream, Waver meets Rider Iskandar. The two chat and Waver is able to achieve the resolution he sought over the 4th Holy Grail War.
Thoughts/Review
And so Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files 13 comes to an end. And though this was an aftermath episode, it also set up the possibility of future stories.
Skipping Ahead
The one negative aspect about Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files 13 is that when the previous episode ended, Gray had just fired off her Noble Phantasm. And Faker was using hers to attack Gray. As such, I was taken aback when episode 13 immediately skips to Waver and Gray in separate rooms, recovering from their injuries. What happened in the fight?
The one thing I gathered is that Dr. Heartless and Faker are still around. Otherwise, Waver may not have given up on attempting to be a Master in the 5th Holy Grail War. But why did they disengage from combat at all? Was it because Gray further injured Faker, forcing Dr. Heartless and Faker to retreat? I wish that had been covered in the anime.
Aftermath
For the most part, Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files 13 is an aftermath episode. And it does a decent jobs wrapping up loose ends. We learn that Yvette was basically given a slap on the wrist (if that). And of course, she still has feelings for Waver for some reason.
Svin’s promotion meant little to me. I don’t know the ranking system of the Clock Twoer. Further, I wasn’t invested in Svin or Flat as characters. They were just comic relief for the most part.
I did like the friendship and alliance Reines formed with Olga. Someday, Reines will receive the Lord title for her family. Likewise Olga for hers. So it makes sense that as young people, they form this partnership to deal with whatever issues they may face from the establishment.
Next, Waver settles things with Adashino. This is where most of the setup is had to launch a new series. I hope they do.
Following that, Gray is finally able to give her present to Waver. Further, Waver is able to accept Gray’s continued assistance. I liked this. While Gray adores her Shisho, Waver respects Gray. So I like the relationship.
4th Holy Grail War Resolution
The final aftermath element was Waver coming to a resolution over the 4th Holy Grail War. I liked that Waver came to understand that entering the 5th Holy Grail War would not help him.
As to the dream sequence, I like to think that Rider Iskandar actually visited Waver. I realize this was likely not the case. But the scene between Waver and Iskandar was touching. It actually made me want to pull Rider Iskandar in Fate/Grand Order.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
In the end, Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files 13 was a good aftermath episode. The only problem I had was the time skip from the battle at the end of the previous episode.

Just a minor part I found funny. While in the hospital Grey (who’d have ever thought hospital gowns came with hoods) finds out that Svin was asking about her and somehow concludes that he must hate her. Then cut to Svin wailing in despair about Grey’s injuries and about the restraining order preventing him from visiting her. I guess you have to read the LN to find out what the deal is between those two.
I also now agree with what you said about Reines having a similar look and personality to Evangeline A.K. MacDowell. Funny I didn’t notice it myself considering that Eva is one of my favorite manga characters and is pretty much the only reason I follow UQ Holder. Although I will say that I think Reines is an even bigger a**hole the Eva ever was.
Yeah, I guess so. But maybe we’ll get more stuff adapted and they can delve into it.
Haha! That aspect always makes me smile.
Actually you should invest on Svin and Flat or Flat at the very least since it was announced a number of months ago that Fate Strange Fake is going to be adapted.
So chronologically in the main timeline, Fate Strange Fate takes part in the same worldline/timeline.
Fate Zero > Lord El Melloi II Case Files > FSN/UBW/Heaven’s Feel > Hollow Ataraxia > Strange Fake
Gil, Jack the Ripper and Enkidu will return with Jack serving as Berserker and servant to Flat
Jack serving as Berserker and servant to Flat
Okay then. That sounds. . . weird. Really, really weird.
Haha! Sounds like fun.
I missed that announcement. 😅
Good to know.
I’d like to see Fate/Hollow Ataraxia adapted.
