Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 124
Tonikaku Kawaii Fly Me to the Moon 124
トニカクカワイイ 124
Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:
INUKAI Hakase tells her fellow Movie Research Club members that they are going to film a movie called The Moonlight Ghost Mansion. She cites The Blair Witch Project as evidence of how a small budget film can deliver big. She has the role of writer/director. KURENAI Hotaru has the role of music composer and is unsure about this idea. MIYAKO Haru is the editor and doesn’t want to make a horror film. SHIROGANE Yaiba is the casting director and supports Hakase.
The cameraman, USA Mishio, notes that it is a cliche that horror movies have low budgets. Costume designer, NIKOTAMA Jessie, asks what they are filming. Hakase assures them they aren’t making a real horror film as they don’t have the talent. She received permission to film at the old mansion at the corner of town, a place rumored to have real ghosts. As such, she wants to make a film documenting their trip to the mansion.
At the bathhouse, Kaname is still surprised that Nasa and Tsukasa are really going to leave. She teases Nasa about buying a new bed. That evening at dinner, Nasa asks Tsukasa about buying new furniture. Tsukasa wants a large bookcase. However, she’d like to look at a model home to get an idea on furniture.
Hotaru shows up and informs them that she knows the perfect house. Unfortunately, she lets it slip that she and the girls are planning to use Nasa since their are ghosts lingering at the mansion. He rejects Hotaru’s request.
Thoughts/Review:
And so we come to Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 124. And as Hata-sensei is wont to do, he is taking the story in an unexpected direction.
Movie Club Fun
In Hayate the Combat Butler, Hata-sensei had some of the characters create a movie club to supposedly research film. And there, the goal was a Jackie Chan film. However, in Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 124, the inspiration is the 21-year old, American horror film, The Blair Witch Project. (Do some of you feel old yet? 😉) And horror is nothing new to Hata-sensei. Based on how he’s done things in the past, we will likely get some ghost story, no doubt infused with a lot of humor.
An Interesting Twist
For me, the most intriguing part of this Movie Research Club outing is the location–the Sanzenin Mansion. Yep, Nagi’s mansion from Hayate the Combat Butler is the old, haunted mansion mentioned in this Fly Me to the Moon (as Viz denotes it) chapter. Hata-sensei has shown a lot of cameos from Hayate in this manga. Neither Nagi nor Hayate have been among them.
We did see a photo of a young Nagi (with Yukariko) in These Two Will Be Married in 100 Days. (Review is here.) Nagi’s grandfather Mikado is running a small restaurant now. So it is possible Hakase went to said restaurant and obtained permission for her club to go to the old mansion.
It will be interesting to see where Hata-sensei goes with this.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
Let me wrap up my review with some final thoughts.
- Hata-sensei reminds us again that Nasa and Tsukasa are moving.
- Kaname trolling Nasa was funny to me.
- I love Tsukasa’s desire to have a large bookcase. She and I would be in agreement there, considering my own love of large bookcases.
- Finally, Hata-sensei puts an E.T. poster up on the wall. However, it looks like he changed the letters to “FU”. 😂
In the end, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 124 was a fun chapter, made more interesting by bringing back Nagi’s old mansion from Hayate the Combat Butler.
