Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:

Nasa recounts his lost memories of the night of his accident. As Nasa is bleeding to death, he expresses remorse over leaving Tsukasa as a widow. She informs him that she was not serious about her marriage proposal. Further, if he know whom she was, he wouldn’t want to marry her. She bites her finger and drips her blood into Nasa’s mouth so that he can survive. Quickly, her own wound heals.

Tsukasa helps Nasa back to the sheltered bus stop and tells how Kaguya-hime left the Hourai Elixir with the Emperor. He ordered his subordinate Iwakasa to burn the elixir on the highest mountain in Japan and thus signal Kaguya-hime. However, Iwakasa had a 16 year old daughter who was dying. As such, he gave her the elixir. Tsukasa was his daughter from 1400 years before.

Tsukasa wished to reach the moon and Kaguya, hoping the princess would be able to remove Tsukasa’s immortality. After Tsukasa finishes her tale, she attempts to leave. However, Nasa stops her. He tells her he still wants to marry her and vows to make her wish come true. Further, he promises to bury her 1400 years of loneliness.  She kisses him and agrees to marry him. He promises to never leave her behind.

In the present, Tsukasa takes back the wedding ring. She too thinks back on that fateful night. She also recalls seeking Nasa out two years later.

Thoughts/Review:

Hata-sensei hits us with a monster chapter in Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 147. Finally, the gaps are filled.

Lost Memories Restored

So after all this time, Nasa finally gets his lost memories back in Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 147. Suddenly regaining his memories is certainly convenient. But I guess Hata-sensei didn’t have a story-centric means of giving Nasa his memories back. So we get what we get, which for me, wasn’t satisfying. Maybe Hata-sensei wanted the trigger for Nasa’s recovered memory to be the power of love. But it didn’t work for me.

That said, at least Nasa has his memories back, and we readers now have the entire story. It may be a bit of a stretch that Nasa so readily accepted Tsukasa’s story, even with seeing the evidence of her healing. But it still works.

On the other side, Tsukasa deciding to go ahead and marry Nasa seems even more out of the blue. I had speculated that Nasa has been a reincarnation, so maybe she agreed to marry him ’cause she recognized him from the past. However, that does not seem to be the case. As such, Tsukasa just deciding to spend time with Nasa as his wife, despite his short life compared to hers, seems a bit strange. I mean, Nasa is going to eventually die, and Tsukasa will again be alone. 😢

Regardless, I am glad Nasa and Tsukasa are together again.

Tsukasa and Kaguya

As we knew, Tsukasa was an immortal. The only thing we didn’t know was how did she become immortal. So it seems her father, Iwakasa, gave Tsukasa the Elixir of Immortality to save her live, not considering the cost of immortality. Therefor, what Iwakasa considered to be an act of good turned into a curse for Tsukasa. I mean, 1400 years is a long time to wander Japan as a 16-year old girl.

But now we know why Tsukasa has been seeking Kaguya. If Kaguya had the ability to make an elixir that grants immortality, then surely she should have another elixir that reverses the process.

The question I have is why is Kaguya on Earth? I suppose she must have become aware of Tsukasa’s plight and cries, based on some of the cryptic remarks Kaguya has made in the past. However, if that’s the case, then why hasn’t she helped Tsukasa before now?

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

Since I need to get this posted sooner rather than later, let me wrap up my review of Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 147 with some final thoughts.

  • I was surprised at how long this chapter was. It really does play like a series finale. Fortunately, I know this is not the case as there are at least four chapters in the spinoff Fly Me to the Moon series. (Bloody Viz and their use of that subtitle as their main title.)
  • I got a kick out of Tsukasa getting angry at Nasa stating she’s 1400 years old rather than 16, 1400 times. 😂
  • Likewise, I got a kick out of Nasa already lamenting dying and leaving Tsukasa as a widow, even though he’d only just met her.

Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 147

In the end, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 147 manages to wrap up the mystery of who Tsukasa is. Thankfully, while one story may be ending, another begins.
