Keroro Gunsou Episode 122
ケロロ軍曹/Sgt. Frog Anime Review
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
Keroro is bored and finds nothing of interest in his massive, DVD collection. He visits each of his platoon members, but no one has anything of interest. However, in Kururu’s lair, there is a sealed DVD with warnings on the console. Keroro takes the DVD, suspecting the warnings, locks, and seals are just to put him off. He plays the video, which seems to be bugged as it shows only static (after a warning).
Outside Keroro’s room, the hall now features some female creature exiting from a well. Whenever folks enter Keroro’s room, it is normal. however, when they try to leave, they see the same creature. Eventually, Fuyuki, Natsumi, Dororo, Mois, Tamama, and Giroro are trapped. They manage to find an exit out of a fake door. However, when Kururu returns, the movie starts playing on the TV and everyone turns into the girl-monster from the well.
Sometime later, Natsumi is angry due to the summer heat. She takes out her wrath on Giroro. Fuyuki and Giroro observe this, so Fuyuki makes his escape. Natsumi attacks Giroro and forbids him to do any Gunpla. A desperate Keroro bribes Natsumi by showing off drones with her head. These can be used to enforce any house rule.
The bots viciously target Giroro for using weapons, which Natsumi has forbidden. After multiple attacks, Giroro is about to leave when he learns the truth of Keroro’s agreement. He busts in on Keroro and Tamama, paying the price by getting attacked again by the Natsumi drones. However, the drones then target Keroro and Tamama. Finally, they go after Natsumi, forcing Giroro to use logic to make the bots destroy each other.
Thoughts/Review:
Another summer two-in-one episode with Keroro Gunsou Episode 122.
Story 1: Ringu
The first story in Keroro Gunsou Episode 122 is a straight up parody of the Japanese horror movie, Ringu. The video tape is exchanged for a DVD. Also, no one dies. Otherwise, the episode parodies the core elements of Ringu. As such, I found the story to be pretty funny. Of course the anime had to throw in a moral about not stealing someone else’s property.
Story 2: Drones Amok
I don’t know if the second story of Keroro Gunsou Episode 122 was supposed to parody something or not. It seemed more of a typical, “Natsumi is in a mood” episode, followed by hijinks. I will admit that despite the predictability of the Natsumi drones, it still amused me to see them constantly going after Giroro. And Giroro can’t destroy them ’cause they look like Natsumi.
I kinda wish the Natsumi drones had actually attacked Natsumi. I get that the writers wanted Giroro to heroically save Natsumi. However, it would have been funny for her to take damage that she then inflicts on Keroro.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
In the end, Keroro Gunsou Episode 122 contained two, amusing stories. I was entertained, and that’s the point of an anime series. So all is well.
