Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:

After cleaning Aozora’s grave, Tsukasa wonders if Nasa’s grandfather would be happy. Nasa recalls his grandfather telling him a supernatural, scary story. However, the supernatural element isn’t what made the story scary. As such, he recounts Aozora’s story of encountering Tsukasa, who’s name he never apparently learned. Aozora concluded that a young girl, on a remote mountain in the early hours of the morning could not be human.

Tsukasa agrees with the assessment. After hearing how Nasa’s grandfather suffered at the hands of the woman, Tsukasa says that if she met him now, she’d shower him with kindness. This triggers another memory with Nasa. When Nasa’s cat died, Aozora told him to show kindness to others as the moral of the mountain girl story.

Tsukasa states the lesson doesn’t make sense. However, she believes Nasa’s grandfather was a good person. And she cites Nasa as proof in how he shows kindness to others. After they talk a bit more, they put up the cleaning tools. Tsukasa silently reflects on how she’s not good at expressing her love for Nasa. However, she feels that today, she managed to do it in a supernatural way.

Tsukasa asks if Nasa knows more about the mountain girl. Nasa doesn’t and laments not talking to his grandfather more. Tsukasa understands. The two then head off to get something to eat.

Thoughts/Review:

And so I presume the story of Nasa’s grandfather ends with Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 219.

Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 219

Supernatural Tale

One thing that Hata-sensei has made clear in this manga is that while Tsukasa’s memories prior to becoming immortal have all but faded, her memories afterward are clear as yesterday. As such, I’m very confident that Tsukasa remembered her encounter with Aozora in Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 219. For a start, there’s Tsukasa’s initial reaction when she learns that Aozora didn’t consider her to be human. There’s even a sense of mild regret at having worked the man so hard so many decades ago.

Then there’s Tsukasa’s reaction to learning the lesson Nasa’s grandfather taught Nasa, regarding kindness. It was the same lesson she imparted to Aozora. And after their talk was all but done, Tsukasa felt pride in this supernatural way her love for Nasa had been expressed.

As to why Tsukasa didn’t confess to her part in this story, there could be numerous reasons. Nasa might find it suspicious if he knew that Tsukasa had met his grandfather. And frankly, Tsukasa isn’t looking to steal Nasa’s limelight. At the same time, she’s not looking to answer any questions about what really happened.

Finally, I did get a chuckle at how Hata-sensei got some of the Hayate the Combat Butler characters into the story. Making Isumi the kappa character was pretty humorous.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In the end, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 219 wraps up the story of Nasa’s grandfather encountering Tsukasa when he was a young man. Considering how “fate” has already been brought up as a factor, the convenience of their encounter does not bother me. I would like to see Nasa’s reaction, should he learn the truth about Aozora’s encounter with Tsukasa.
