Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:

At the bathhouse front room, Aya informs Tsukasa that she has thought about her future. To that end, Aya has decided to change from a high school Vtuber to a University of Tokyo Vtuber. However, she has no actual plans to attend university. Thus, she wouldn’t need to study for college entrance exams.

Nasa arrives and finds Aya’s plan filled with unnecessary work. Rather than create a new Vtuber persona, Nasa recommends just expanding on her current one. After hearing Nasa’s encouragement, Aya decides she wants to collab with another Vtuber. Tsukasa teases Aya over apparently giving up on college.

Thoughts/Review:

Just a short chapter with Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 229. I’ll be honest, I’ve never really seen the appeal of Vtubers. Don’t get me wrong. I understand wanting to remain anonymous, but have something on screen to represent you. Japanese manga artist Neet has one that she’s drawn, which she uses when she streams on Twitch. Thus she remains anonymous, but her Vtuber avatar represents her. I get that.

However, it is Vtubers getting treated like idols that I don’t get. Aya apparently is one like that since she’s pretty popular with her Vtube stuff. Her whole thought for life is to just change personas and fake life as a University of Tokyo student. It is this fake aspect that I find so cringe. But I’m old and apparently out of touch as what I think is cringe, others schedule their lives around so they don’t miss any live content.

I’m not sure if Hata-sensei has a specific point he’s making with Aya and Vtubing. Obviously, Vtubing is popular, even if I don’t get it. And yeah, it doesn’t require going to college. I suppose Hata-sensei is saying that whatever one decides to do with one’s life, keep pushing forward.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In the end, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 229 isn’t a bad chapter, but I just have no interest in Vtubing.
