Tsubasa: Tokyo Revelations OVA 03

SPOILER Summary:

Tsubasa: Tokyo Revelations OVA 03Kurogane is about to attack Syaoran when he’s stopped by Yuuko-san, who explains that this Syaoran did not kill Kurogane’s mother and does not know how to get to the man that did. Fai is dying and so Kurogane begins to make a wish of Yuuko-san to save Fai’s life even though Fai does not want that. With the water supply under the building now gone, Subaru wants to ensure that gets restored, which is his wish. So, the deal ends up being that Kamui will mingle his vampire blood with Kurogane’s, which Fai will then drink and become a vampire. Because Kurogane’s blood is in there, he becomes “e” or prey (food) for Fai, meaning Fai won’t hunt other humans for food. However, this will keep him alive. This grants Kurogane’s wish.

Tsubasa: Tokyo Revelations OVA 03Yuuko-san produces several jugs of water, which despite their small size (a gallon or so), they end up pouring thousands of gallons of water into the reservoir. Now Subaru’s wish is filled and the payment is an egg. Sakura, now awake, demands to be briefed on everything that’s happened and states that she will get the payment for the water alone. Borrowing Yuuma’s bike (his group having come over the Tokyo Municipal with one of Sakura’s feathers and a truce), Sakura heads out into the wasteland. She’s attacked by the giant worms and a giant multi-eyed lizard, which destroys the hover bike. She kills the beast and proceeds on despite being injured. After a perilous journey where she’s injured more, she’s attacked by a giant, twin-headed cobra that she also manages to shoot and kill at her final destination. She obtains the egg and heads back despite her injuries, partially guided by Sakura-chan from Cardcaptor Sakura.

Tsubasa: Tokyo Revelations OVA 03Back at the Tokyo Municipal building, Fai and come to and is not happy about things. He wants to set off after Sakura, but is prevented. Syaoran says things that remind Fai of the Syaoran-clone and so Fai remains where he is. Sakura soon arrives and the guys go out to meet her and bring her in. She passes the egg to Yuuko-san and Yuuko-san then informs the group about Fei Wong Reed and his wish to travel dimensions. He created the Syaoran-clone for that purpose and scattered Sakura’s feathers across the multi-verse for that purpose, Sakura’s body to be the vessel which records the journeys for Fei. Fei also arranged for the events that would lead Kurogane to come to Yuuko-san and Fai as well. Yuuko-san asks them what they will do. Sakura wishes to follow “Syaoran-kun” and possibly save him. The others agree to join her. Sakura leaves her feather behind, tossing it into the reservoir and the group is off for the next adventure.

Thoughts/Review:

I got to say that the anime adaptation does its job by really bringing out the difficulty Sakura had in obtaining the egg as part of the whole wish-granting deal as the final payment to Yuuko-san. It was weird seeing Sakura-chan from Cardcaptor Sakura (which was not what Sakura saw in the manga) guide Sakura from Tsubasa, but I have to say that while it changed things a bit, I liked this change.

All in all, I have to hand it to Production I.G for proving a really good adaptation of the manga. The few changes they made were not offensive (as they were to me in their xxxHOLiC adaptation) and as such, I wouldn’t mind seeing them release some more OVA series (providing they continue to be mostly faithful to the original manga). I also would like to see FUNimation license this 3-episode OVA series because I’d certainly buy it.
