The critter’s name is apparently Pokota.

And for those wanting to hear what the OP sounds like (courtesy of Tea and an unnamed fan in Japan who recorded it off the radio, which explains the AM radio quality of the recording), I have it here.

    New visitors — if you see posts with the images improperly placed, it is a known issue that I have to manually fix. It will take considerable time to get them all. I will keep a daily update here to track my (insanely slow) progress.

    09-Oct-2020 : Reached post dated March 22, 2009, and quite a number of scattered ones earlier than that (usually based on cross-linkage, reader requests to fix, or what’s currently trending), including all of 2006.
