愛・天地無用! Ep. 01
Ai Tenchi Muyo! – 01 Review
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
MASKI Tenchi is trying to get to school and is going down a mountain path filled with obstacle when a pink haired girl falls on him, giving him a full view of her panties with a peach (momo) on them.
The girl, Momo, flees when two other female pursers show up, where they capture Tenchi instead.
The girls flee with another girl with animal ears shows up, kissing Tenchi, but then dropping him when she realizes it isn’t “Momo-sama.”
Two other girls show up, identifying the boy as Tenchi.
At school, the beaten teacher is escorted by the female teacher, who calls him her toy. In the all female class, the female teacher has Tenchi introduce himself as the new teacher in the class.
Thoughts/Review:
I have to say that the character designs look a tad bit better in the actual first episode than they did in the promotional materials. That being said, Tenchi still doesn’t look like Tenchi, even if he sounds like Tenchi.
I’m glad KIKUCHI Masami is back to resume one of his iconic anime roles. Initially, he didn’t seem to have it all together, but by the end of this short, he did, and that’s what counts.
As to the episode, it looks like it is just going to be an excuse for a lot of fanservice. For me, this element is a roll your eyes, “been there, done that” kind of thing.
As to the episode itself, too early to say anything, but considering that episodes are being released daily, I would be willing to bet that putting five episodes together would make a whole episode, kinda like what happened with Azumanga Daioh back in the day.
I can’t promise I’ll get an episode up daily considering my insane schedule, but I’ll do what I can.
By the second episode the girls already take him to the Fifty Shades dungeon. Apparently dominating Tenchi is a thing now!
I sense an Ayeka in the force.
Har!
Yeah, I got a look at that. I still have to blog it. So freaking busy of late. ^_^;
I saw an article about this series last month and noticed that it would have a whole new cast of female characters. So, does this still take place in the OVA continuity or what? Also, am I going to have to go use… shall we say “alternative methods” of watching this? I don’t see it on Funimation’s site, Crunchyroll, or any of the other legit streaming sites.
What’s the problem with having a new cast? Isekai was almost completely a new cast and it was good. GXP was primarily new cast as well. And both are OVA continuity. And we already saw, *SPOILER ALERT* Washu and Mihoshi, which is a whole lot more than the text conversations in Isekai.
As for whether this is actually OVA continuity or not… ANB, did K-sensei said anything about this? I know that the -IF- short manga/sketches should be part of the main canon, but this looks anything but -IF-.
He’s not involved. The creator of Tenchi Universe is doing this one. Kajishima-sensei’s name is being thrown about, but he’s being given credit as the original creator.
If I’m not mistaken, GXP also wasn’t under K-sensei’s direction. But isn’t it canon nevertheless?
GXP was written by Kajishima-sensei, which is why it is considered canon. He actually directed episode 17. What we heard from Japan was that the reason NB was in the doghouse in that episode was because it was symbolic of Kajishima’s unhappiness with some of the things Nabeshin did with the other episodes.
I wasn’t complaining about a mostly new cast. I was merely remarking on it and asking if the new series was in the OVA continuity (which as ANB pointed out it’s not). I did find out that the original female cast is still present, but that they’re apparently more ancillary in this series.
Except for Aeka’s seiyuu.
This series isn’t canon. Kajishima-sensei wasn’t involved in its creation. Whether it is part of Tenchi Universe remains to be seen.
And yeah, I’m watching it alternatively. I’m rather surprised no one picked it up, considering it is Tenchi.
What do you mean nobody picked it? That nobody translates it or nobody blogs about it or something else?
If it’s translation then there are at least two groups who do it (in English): Anime-Koi and TenchiforumTranslations (the former being better edited and styled and possibly better translated, but I might be mistaken on the last one; I don’t know Japanese, so I can’t really judge).
There are also other groups who translate it in different languages: Brazilian Portuguese (Punch, Hayaisubs?), Russian (Natalia Ishova),… erm, some other languages… the Glandeur Nature’s group might be French… I think (Glandeur sounds like French).
Anyway, there are groups who translated and basically you need ONE GOOD group who translate it in your language or a language you know. Not ten, just one. If there are ten groups, the chances are that you won’t really know which one to pick and end up watching the not as good translation.
I meant that I was surprised Crunchyroll or FUNimation didn’t try to simulcast it.
Tenchiforum has subbed the first 5 an will continue to do so.
Really need to melt that cannon, nothing but crappy incest.
Actually the last entry in th OVA setting was “Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari” (also known as “War on Geminar”). It was running 2009-2010.
Hey stranger. ^_^ And thanks for the work. ^_^
Not sure what you mean here, but canon is just the stuff Kajishima-sensei created. I suspect that Ai Tenchi Muyo will be part of the Tenchi Universe continuity.
Huh. Well, that’s slightly disappointing. New Tenchi anything is appreciated, but I was more looking forward to a new entry in the OVA series canon. It’s been nine years since the last episode of OVA 3. But since it’s directed by Negishi maybe it will at least be canon to the Universe continuity. It’s been fifteen years since TMIL2/Tenchi Forever came out. I was looking up more info and saw that he was the director and that the guy who illustrated Durarara was the character designer, which I thought was interesting. Well, time to go track down a stream of it.
So was I. The two -If- doujinshi titles are what I’d like to see animated (as well as the three Tenchi novels).
I suspect it will be part of Tenchi Universe.
