Hayate the Combat Butler Chapter 467 Review

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Hayate the Combat Butler Chapter 467 Athena uses a white board to explain the Royal Garden and how King Midas used it to make the Royal Power his. The sword, Shirozakura, was a tool used to keep the Royal Garden powered, but when Athena escaped, the Shirozakura was lost, so the Royal Garden is now dying.

That being said, the Royal Power won’t be lost if the seal of the Royal Garden is gone. The power will manifest itself in the world in some secret form. So with the clock ticking, Athena tells Mikado that if he decides he needs a King’s Jewel, he should come to her as she’s ready to make a deal.

Meanwhile, Nagi is at Yukari-chan House, where she announces to Chiharu, Kayura, Hina, and Ayumu that she’s returning to her mansion immediately as she found a King’s Jewel. Ayumu says they should have a party, but Nagi shoots that down, saying that the mansion isn’t that far away, and she’ll see the others at school or work.

Hayate, Maria, and Nagi return to the mansion, where Nagi is happy to have her soft, giant bed again, as well as her giant, HDTV to play games on. Maria and Hayate go off to do shopping while Nagi plays, thinking of different things she wants to tell the her former housemates. Despite the fun of playing in a giant screen, Nagi appears to be missing her housemates.

Thoughts/Review:

Things continue to move apace as far as the story goes, but that’s fine.

I get the feeling that this is where Athena makes her exist from the manga for a while. I’m betting that she has a place in Japan since she’s still the headmaster of Hakuo Gakuen. How this information funnels to the other (assuming I’m right), I’d guess Aika would do this. We’ll see if I’m even right about this, but I’m betting Athena has left due to her being MIA in the Heaven is a Place on Earth movie and the Can’t Take My Eyes Off You series.

Regardless, Athena gets a lot of exposition out there to set up things down the road. It actually amazes me that Mikado didn’t decide to take Athena’s offer immediately.

While Athena may have pushed the main plot forward, the story of Nagi returning to the mansion was actually more interesting to me. I can certainly understand and appreciate Nagi’s feelings upon returning — the comfy bed and the giant, HDTV to play games and watch anime on. She had done without for three months, so her reactions were completely normal.

What was interesting is that while she had honestly not wanted some kind of party, thinking that just seeing everyone at school or work would suffice. Nagi, having always spent her life in solitude, save for Maria (after Nagi’s mother died) and Klaus, spent three months living in close quarters with others, and had become closer to them than she had expected.

Hayate the Combat Butler Chapter 467

In CTMEOY, we did see Nagi sometimes staying at Yukari-chan House, and sometimes staying at the mansion.  I didn’t understand that in the anime series, other than having an excuse to put manga stories from other times into the story. I expect that we’ll see Nagi spending the night at Yukari-chan House pretty frequently, to the amusement of Hayate.

I’m hoping that we get some indication that HIAPOE has happened at some point, followed by the events of CTMEOY.

In the end, a rather enjoyable and informative chapter.

  1. By the way, it just occurred to me that exactly how the Shirouzakura ended up inside of Machina was never fully explained since wasn’t it Ikusa who was last using it?

Actually, Shirozakura was left with Athena, if I recall correctly. So when Ikusa was taken in and Athena woke up, I believe the sword was there.

Of course, we know next to nothing about Machina.
