境界のRINNE ep 10
Kyoukai no RINNE – 10
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
Rokumon and Rinne get sick, so Sakura comes to visit, accompanied by Tsubasa. While there, a bear (doctor) and clockwork nurse show up under orders from a family member. Tsubasa discovers they aren’t what they claim to be, so Rinne defeats these Damashigami. Rokumon takes them to the authorities for the reward money, but then discovers that Rinne’s bank account is overdrawn. Meanwhile, Sakura and Tsubasa return for another visit as Rinne’s father shows up in a flurry of bills in which Rinne is saddled with the debt. Rinne’s father, Sabato, runs the Damashigami Company and wants Rinne to take over.
Outside, two female Damashigami attempt to take a bunch of male students. Rinne saves them and forces Sabato to flee, but Sabato steals Rinne’s tatami mat, forcing him to go after his father along with Sakura, Tsubasa, and Rokumon. At Sabato’s place, Sabato claims that Rinne’s mother is waiting, but instead, all of his girlfriends are there, waiting for Rinne to pick one of them. Sabato separates Rinne from the others, but Rinne still gets away. A bunch of girls his age pounce, hoping to marry Rinne. Sakura and Tsubasa escape their confinement. Tsubasa gets snared by a fortune teller who sells him a pendant for ¥5000, which will supposedly help him win over Sakura. Tsubasa meets up with Sakura and they end up in the banquet room for the celebration at Rinne’s expense for him taking over the broke company.
Thoughts/Review:
While I have certainly enjoyed the anime adaptation of the RINNE story much more than the original manga story, unfortunately, the character of Sabato is so evil, Brain’s Base will need to do a ton to make him tolerable. Unfortunately, they aren’t going too far outside the scope of the manga for Sabato’s character.
Brain’s Base has done a great job of setting up the Damashigami and Sabato’s eventual arrival. However, Sabato’s character never gets any real punishment for being so evil as to steal from his own son and saddle his son with massive debt. Instead, Sabato might get a bash on the head, but then he smugly avoids any real attack from Rinne and doubles down on his evil actions.
I hated the character in the manga, and I didn’t find humor in his actions. I’m sure Takahashi-sensei meant for him to be very funny, but he’s not. He’s just someone you want to beat to death, then resurrect him simply so you can club him like a baby seal again.
I don’t remember Tsubasa getting a pendant at the Damashigami Company, but he may have. Obviously, it will lead to some negative consequence.
In the end, I couldn’t enjoy this episode because of Sabato. That’s not Brain’s Base’s problem, but it is the problem of the source material from the manga. Sadly, there’s more Sabato to come, and he only gets worse from here.
