Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei Herz! – 05

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei Herz! - 05Ilya, Miyu, Kuro, Mimi, Suzuka, and Nanaki go to the summer festival at the river, where Miyu, who’d never been to a festival before, has a great difficulty understanding why the prices of things like cotton candy are so outrageously expensive. The group finds Tatsuko being carried on a portable shrine, acting her usual manic self.  Miyu wonders if she’ll be able to have fun at a festival, but she participates at the water yo-yo, eats a candy apple, does the ring toss, and more. Later, she decides she’s having fun. Kuro questions Ilya collecting the Magical Bushido Musashi prizes at the festival since she’s a real magical girl. Ruby emerges, accusing Ilya of being unfaithful, so Ilya ends up tossing Ruby and the Magical Bushido Musashi stuff into the trash.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei Herz! - 05The girls discover Bazett doing the string prize (himokuji) for ¥500 a draw. Mimi, Nanaki, and Suzuka each have a go and get the string as a consolation prize. Bazett pressures Ilya, Kuro, and Miyu into having a go, but Luvia shows up with Rin and drops ¥500,000, causing Bazett to pick up the prize cabinet and deliver it to Luvia’s home. The group goes to the okonomiyaki stand, where Shirou is working for Tatsuko’s father. Tatsuko’s father tells Shirou he can take off since his wife and kids will be there, but when Tatsuko shows up, he has them take her with them. The group heads to a picnic table area, where they eat, although Ilya is bummed that Shirou is with Luvia and Rin.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei Herz! - 05The girls watch as Rin and Luvia, who’ve been restrained in their verbal battles, chat with Shirou. Rin asks Shirou about their yukatas, then makes a remark about how only perverts wear yukata without underwear, knowing she’d tricked Luvia into not wearing underwear for her yukata. Luvia decides to get revenge by getting a water balloon in Rin’s Yukata, then bursting it so that it looks like Rin peed herself. As the two battle, Ilya is ashamed that she wore no underwear. Having a yukata accident, she’s forced to change into her magical girl outfit until Miyu can help her rectify the situation. Ilya attempts to casually ask more about Miyu’s past, but Miyu gives it the slip and Ilya lets it go, to Kuro’s chagrin. Afterward, the girls watch the fireworks.

Thoughts/Review:

Five episodes in and still almost nothing on the plot. I’m not complaining since the episodes are mostly fun and humorous.

Since I’m mentioning the plot, the only plot element in this episode was Ilya’s attempt to broach the subject of Miyu’s past and how she became a magic girl. It looked like for a moment, Miyu was going to answer, then decided not to. Kuro figures that Miyu’s secret is tied to them. Ilya appears to understand this as well, but won’t force the issue. Kuro would force it, but I find it interesting that she is choosing to keep her yap shut and let Ilya handle it in her own way and time.

As to the rest of the episode, we get the traditional, Japanese summer festival works, complete with the various food and game stands. These things usually make me feel peckish. I kind of regret never having attended a Japanese festival in Japan. I’ve attended one’s in America, but they aren’t the same by any stretch of the imagination.

The trope of girls not wearing underwear while wearing the yukata came up, but didn’t go where I expected. I figured Rin would stage an accident for Luvia to shame her in front of Shirou, but that would backfire on Rin. Instead, Rin went a different route, and Luvia’s revenge with the water balloon to make it look like Rin peed herself was just hilarious.

Speaking of Rin and Luvia, their hair fight was also pretty funny with Luvia using her curl has a drill on Rin and Rin using her hair to slap Luvia around.

And then there was Tatsuko, who’s manic behavior has become a cliche, but not in a bad way. It is amusing how her own family have a hard time dealing with her.

I could talk more about the other comedy elements here, but I’m really short on time. As such, I’ll end things here by saying that this was an amusing and fun episode.

    Good news is that from the looks of the next episode preview, we are finally getting back to the main plot.

    I can relate with Miyu on the costs associated of retail goods. Production wise it’s not all that expensive to create these cheap goods, but to distribute them at a higher price is the basis of retailing and profit.

    The people who have the direct sources are often the ones to have a better value for their money.

    One can think of buying a wholesale of chips in a box from the chip manufacturer vs buying an individual bag of chips at the supermarket.

    Anyways the point is that Miyu is someone who I could trust with budget spending ^_^;;

      I know folks who are like Miyu at the start of this episode. Me, I go in knowing it is going to be expensive, but since I’m there to have fun, I just make sure I keep to a budget (going to the movies).
