UQ Holder Chapter 94

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

UQ Holder Chapter 94A depressed Touta speaks with the Kitty in his mind, lamenting he could say something to help her. She tells hi she needs no such words since she’s killed too many people to be forgiven.

Dana reaches in pulls him out of the time twist that would have removed his existence. Dana says that this may have been his only chance to die and tells the others that if they get a chance to die, they should consider it unless they intend to go on living after humanity has been destroyed. She asks them to ponder than and takes off, announcing that until Touta recovers, there will be no further training.

Santa, Kirie, Kuroumaru, and Laszlo (Afro) are playing mahjong as Ray sits nearby. Santa wants to know what happens to them if the Earth explodes. Kuroumaru figures Kirie would have to live the last day of Earth over and over. Kirie freaks out, but Santa and Kuroumaru think they should discuss things. Santa points out how Sayoko nearly destroyed humanity and someone mentions that eventually, the sun will expand and destroy the Earth. Kirie is all panicked by this thought, so Santa says that he figures humanity can leave the solar system by then, giving her some hope.

After Laszlo says Dana gave them good advice, they start pondering things. Kuroumaru’s immortality isn’t that powerful, so Kuroumaru figures not to be around when humanity comes to an end. Santa figures he’ll have been exorcised by then. Kirie is not happy with those answers and decides she doesn’t want to discuss how she’s going to die. She vows to defend humanity and keep the species going, especially since that’s the mission of UQ Holder. With that, she slaps down a mahjong tile as ‘riichi’, meaning she’s one away from winning. Santa uses her discarded piece to make ‘ron’ and win the game.

After Kirie is teased about being a good girlfriend for Touta, based on what she just said, the discussion turns to Touta, who’s been asleep for five days. Kuroumaru says there’s no physical reason for him to be out, so Kuroumaru speculates that Touta has a mental condition. Laszlo wants to know if this Kitty person is Touta’s girlfriend. Kuroumaru gets flustered and starts explaining that this is likely a one-sided thing, but then Touta appears behind Kuroumaru.

Touta thanks them all, then eats an apple slice. Touta asks Kuroumaru for a favor, so the two start training together, even during breaks from Dana’s training. Dana notes this and smirks. One day, Touta and Kuroumaru announce they are going over the side of the castle to train more and get tips from Ruin Ishkur. Kirie protests as the go over and Santa decides to join them.

Thoughts/Review:

I think Touta jumping through the time window and messing with time is what may be the out Akamatsu-sensei has for Eva not knowing or remembering Touta in the present, assuming Eva (Yukihime) has no memories of him, as she appeared not to have from the start of the manga.

It is hard to say whether or not the Eva in Touta’s mind will continue or not. When Dana saved Touta, it was as if he was pulled away from her. If Touta did mess up time to make it so that Eva never really met him in the past (as I’m speculating), then it would make sense that the fragment of herself would no longer be in his mind. However, since the events happened and he remembers them, then it may be that she’s still there.

To be honest, I think it could be interesting and amusing to have the “Kitty” version of Eva in Touta’s mind, popping in on occasion to give him tips or the like.

Since this is supposed to be the end of the training arc, I’ll be interested in seeing how Touta behaves around Eva’s Yukihime form.

It was also interesting for these immortals to have a discussion on how things would be for them if the world came to an end. Kirie’s reaction to this could suggest that her immortality isn’t just tied to her being able to reset. She may not age either. However, this is all just speculation.

Finally, we’ll see if Touta has actually matured more from this incident or not. He seems somewhat different after his experiences and now has focus, rather than just being adrift.

UQ Holder Chapter 94

Well, we’ll see what kind of fun the next chapter has in store for us, since the training arc is supposedly over.

I think this is the million-dollar question. It could be a really good turning point… or not.

But then what will those of us who enjoy mocking Touta’s enthusiastic blockheadedness have to do, huh? (^_~)

Interesting i wonder how touta will manage to solve the problem with the loop. What do you think astro

  4. Fwahm says:

If Kirie would just die over and over in the situation mentioned in the chapter, it probably means that she can’t “erase” save points, and can only overwrite them. If so, she’d be unable to be killed even if she wanted to be.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

You’d think she’d be able to destroy her save point after appearing there. Unless the problem is that she’s just afraid to die and thus keeps going through the time loop.

So touta will learn the thunder lance offscreen, then.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

He still can’t cast spells, only absorb and send back what folks attack him with. I figured that the tips Touta is looking for are more specific combat techniques, possibly on how to use Ruin’s abilities after Touta’s absorbed them.

    Fufufufufu! Nice one!

1- The immortals talk about the world ending was really interesting! And Kirie’s reactions were the best, blushing after saying something so Touta-like :3

2- Honestly, I think Yukihime remembers Touta. She simply didn’t say anything before because he didn’t know it yet. We’ll see about that. I love time loops LOL

3- I think we’ll have one chapter to finish the training, while showing the start of a new arc.

    P.S. I think the favor was merely help for training;

P.S.2. It was awesome for me when they just jumped down from that high castle to the demons below, even though they (supposedly) can’t fly. It only goes to show how much they have improved.

P.S.3. I really wonder how much time they spent there… and to which point in time they will come back! How often do they have to fight in the preliminaries?

The only thing against this theory is that Eva’s initial reaction to seeing Touta wasn’t to rush and help him, since he was supposedly dead. She does recognize him, but it comes off more that Eva recognized the being that was created from Negi, not a friend she encountered from time to time in her past. When she asks, “Is this…”, she’s told, “yes,” which seems to back that up.

But I could always be misreading things.

Their discussion about how to die is definitely interesting, but I don’t think Akamatsu-sensei has decided how exactly Kirie’s power works. I will wait for when Kirie’s birth year is finally revealed.

We know how the reset power works, but you are right in that we don’t know everything and Akamatsu-sensei may not have decided all that yet.

Satified end to a rather long training arc. It was needed, but man it took forever.
I though it was funny as hell on the reactions to possible end of the world scenarios they were thinking about. Like screams coming from Earth when sun expanding in.

Hopefully Touta, the immortal capacitor for powers will be able learn a thing or two from the lightning demon before he ends up back in the real world.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

I didn’t think the arc was that long, but that’s probably because we finally got some of Eva’s background.

  9. Marcusss says:

    Just an Idea:

What if Eva named Touta by the name Touta Konoe… because she remembered that name from the past and thought it fitting? Paradox much?
I know it isn’t said she named him herself, but with the circumstances it isn’t impossible. 🙂

I think there was no change in the timeline. Either Eva knew who Touta is from the beginning, or she didn’t. The past was not changed, in my opinion.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

I tend to agree that the past was not changed, but only because I think that when Touta broke through the time window, he caused the erasure of his time with Eva in her past. That’s just my theory.

    • Andmeuths says:

My personal belief is that Touta’s parents gave him the name, Touta. It’s just that when Eva examined Touta, she soon realized that this was the exact same being (with the same magical profile, etc) that she encountered, which greatly affected her, when she was young. The only issue is, was this Touta going to Dana in the future, or had this Touta already gone to Dana, met Eva, and lost all of his memories?

I am trying to puzzle out though, on why Eva flip-flopped on the issue of training Touta Konoe between the time on the road, and immediately after the UQ Holder entrance test.

Akamatsu-sensei hadn’t figured out where he was going with things at that point, including the fact that he’d have Touta and Eva meet in her past. 😉
