Fate/kaleid liner プリズマ☆イリヤ 2wei Herz! Final Thoughts
Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei Herz! Review
***SPOILERS***
2015 has been a pretty good year for fans of the Fate/stay night franchise. Earlier in the year, we had the excellent adaptation of the Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works series. Once that completed, we had the Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei Herz! series, which helped take away some of the horrors that were in Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works. Picking up where Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei left off, Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei Herz! continues the loli, ecchi, and comedy content fans have come to expect, and they even manage to take a little time to continue the plot as well.
As the previous two series before, Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei Herz! has only ten episodes. Silver Link takes the first six episodes to run the ecchi, comedy stuff. I can do without the ecchi content, such as the loli snogging that goes on between Kuro and Ilya whenever Kuro needs a mana recharge. We had the corruption of the innocent Mimi when Suzuka and Suzuka’s older sister (“Onee”) who goes off the deep end for BL and becomes even more hardcore as a fujoshi than Suzuka or her sister ever were. And we had Ilya groping a naked boy, though I admit that this scene made me laugh somewhat in spite of myself.
When it comes to the non-ecchi comedy, fortunately, there is plenty of that. There’s Tatsuko’s manic episodes, which I found amusing, which became funnier after meeting her family. Of course, Luvia’s and Rin’s bickering was also quite humorous as Silver Link makes sure not to take things too far (and that might be the case in the source manga as well). Bazett’s attempts to pay off her debt from the damage she caused in the previous series was also a source of amusement. However, the best laughs for me came from Iri, who would stir the pot at times, whether teasing Shiro about going after Ilya (and Kuro) and getting a rise from Sella, or her trolling Rin and Luvia by showing them pictures of Shiro, whom they are in love with. Iri is the best. 😀
As to the plot portion of the final 3 1/2 episodes, fans of the Fate/stay night franchise will easily be able to predict what the 8th card is. The battle that follows is fun to watch, but some things didn’t work as well as it could have. For example, there’s a scene where Iri looks like she’s going to go mama bear on people messing with her daughters, but then nothing comes of that, other than having a character joke about how Iri no longer has that look (thanks to Iri and Caren coming on the scene after the girls have settled things). I realize that Ilya is the main character, but it would have been fun seeing Iri kicking a little butt as well. Still, we got to see Ilya kick butt, so that was fine.
Once our girls have won and things returned to normal, we return to the comedy series for an aftermath with our lead girls (Ilya, Kuro, and Miyu) meeting up with their normal female friends to wrap up to do summer homework and return to normal life (or as normal as things get when you’ve got a couple of magic girls and a girl created from magic). As with previous series, we get a tease of a new threat, both from Iri and Caren investigating the site of the battle, and the arrival of two, mysterious (and blurred) characters, whom are meant to be the new threat. (At least, that’s how I interpreted things.)
While I can certainly do without all of the loli, ecchi content (as I stated before), I will admit that I do have a fondness for this series, and Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei Herz! specifically. Part of that derives from my fondness for the Fate/stay night franchise and characters in general. Another part of that derives from the fact that I can’t help but enjoy the fun found in the series. The series gave me quite a few good laughs. And when it came to the story, I found things to be pretty interesting, though admittedly, Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei Herz! comes up a bit short since in the end, there are no answers. I assume they will come in the next series.
In the end, Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei Herz! is a good continuation of the Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya alternate universe of the Fate/stay night franchise. There’s lots of humor, lots of loli, ecchi content, a nice battle, and a setup for the next series, which I’m looking forward to watching.
The big disappointment of Herz, for me , was that they choose an anime original ending, even though 3rei will get an adaptation. That amazing twist at the end of the 2wei manga was adapted out, which means the entire beginning of 3rei (3rei has no lead-in because it hits the ground running in terms of seriousness and doesn’t stop) is also going to be rewritten.
Hopefully, you’ll still be around when 3rei to say what you think of how they handle not having the twist ending you described. I’m betting changes were made so that 2wei Herz! could have an ending without having something dangling.
3Rei is the best season 😀 can’t wait
and in the end they show a glimpse of Angelica and Beatrice.
Annoyingly they altered the end a bit to allow some ‘filler’ or side story opportunity
We had to wrap your spoiler text to hid it.
Anyway, seems like you aren’t the only fan annoyed with the change the anime made to the manga story at the end.
