No UQ Holder this week
Hey folks. Well, it is that time of year again where lots of holidays and late vacations are taken. This week, there’s no UQ Holder as Weekly Shounen Magazine was a double issue last week, meaning they aren’t publishing this week. If I’ve understood things properly (and if I’m wrong, someone let me know), we’ll have the final issue for 2015 of Weekly Shounen Magazine published on December 23 22 (thanks Krono for the correction). That will also be a double issue, meaning no chapter on December 30th for New Years, and then publishing should return to normal, starting January 6.
While I will also be taking some much needed down time this month (and I do mean much needed…whew!), as I told my boss, I’ll be taking my work laptop with me. What I didn’t say is that I’ll be taking my personal laptop with me as well, so I’ll still keep an eye open for the spoilers and spoiler images when they come. So while you wait, gaze your eyes upon Super Touta (render by AyakaYukihiro) and bask in his awesomeness. 😀
So, I’ll open up the discussions here to talk about whatever plans you all may have for holiday season (on top of UQ Holder stuff). 🙂
As for me, well, I still can’t believe I got talked into going to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Friday. ^_^; Last time I did an opening weekend was when the girl I was seeing at the time wanted to go see the second (or third) Lord of the Rings movie. I despise crowds, and opening weekend for blockbusters are the worst. For a Star Wars movie that looks as awesome as all the trailers have made it seem, it is going to be worse. However, one of my friends already purchased my ticket for me, so I’m going. 😆
At some point between here and the first of the year, I’ll then have to go see the movie with another group of friends, and then right after New Years, I’ll have to go see it with my brother. Man, this better be as good as the hype makes it seem, otherwise by the time my brother and I see it, I’ll be most unhappy.
So it will be a busy, but hopefully fun holiday season for me.
Oh! Good movie Astro-san! I am hoping that you will delight you! Personally I myself had also proposed to go see this movie (and also “the gods of Egypts” released in February) but I must admit that suites the attacks in my country, I did… well… not really want to go to a place where there is a crowd! Although I do not live in an area particularly at risk and cénéma is not in a big city … But anyway lol!
So now we’ll see if my desire and my courage surpass my fear lol. Otherwise I’ll watch a pirated version on the web ^^ lool.
I passed on seeing Gods of Egypt as nothing about the movie struck me as interesting, combined with the fact that I didn’t like the changes they made to the Biblical story, especially dealing with God.
I hear ya. We had that nut job James Holmes shoot up a theater in Colorado a few years ago. And we had the Islamists go nuts in California. Still, there have been seven Islamist attacks in France this year, including one after that concert slaughter. 🙁
Actually, the next issue is slated for the 22nd:

But other than that minor difference, you’re on the mark.
Ah. Thanks for the correction. ^_^
December is always a tough month for manga fans. Maybe I should use this month to start some new manga.
Astro, are you reading any manga, be they shonen or seinen, that you aren’t reviewing here?
I read so many WSM series since they’ve given me a way to read each series latest chapter for free. It’s nice not having to read scanlations where they misspell names and insert a lot of swearing.
On the UQ Holder side, I wonder how volume 9 will sell. Volume 6 debuted on the New York Times Bestseller list so I guess it’s doing alright in NA.
I would like to see UQ Holder become more popular, I prefer Negima but I enjoy UQ more than a lot shonen that get a lot more attention.
I hope the series gets an anime at some point. Akamatsu has drawn some pretty great action scenes and it would be criminal not to see them animated. Also tumblr will probably fall in love with Kuroumaru.
On a chapter basis, I did start reading Fairy Tail on Crunchyroll. Funny thing is, I haven’t even read some of the latest volumes of the manga I purchased (I need to do that), but then I grew so bored with the arc before the latest time skip.
I am planning “a look at” couple of post for a few manga titles, but just haven’t had the drive or time. (I admit that lately, what little free time I have has gone into playing Fallout: New Vegas, which I’ve had for ages. After the stresses of work, I have found diving into this game to be most enjoyable, more so because I really haven’t played PC games since I quit playing Divinity: Original Sin in 2014.)
I have several manga volumes I have read and taken notes for reviews, but I haven’t gotten around to them. 🙁 I have a stack of manga volumes I need to read. 🙁
Yeah, I hear ya. ^_^ It is a shame that Crunchyroll isn’t given the legal authority to branch out into titles licensed by Viz and other companies. I’m not a fan of Viz’s online manga stuff (I’ve no problem with it, but it isn’t for me) or anyone else’s online manga stuff. A deal could be made so that Crunchyroll, Viz (or whomever) and the Japanese licensor all got paid, but sadly, doing something that fan friendly is something the people that run these companies can’t fathom.
As to UQH, its initial release sales are OK, but that’s about it. Negima was never as good in sales as some of the really big titles, but it would be in the best seller list for more than a week at its peak.
It would be amazing if Crunchyroll got Viz series. If people could read the latest chapters of One Piece for free, it would help them see how bad the scanlations of it are. The amount of swearing that Mangastream adds to One Piece to make it more “mature” is unbelievable.
Well, if these guys has sense, they’d do partnerships like this where everyone wins, including customers. But the Japanese might be the biggest hurdle to everything. *_*
While mostly everyone else starting on the 15th will be in line and fighting for seats in the theater for Star Wars, IMAX or regular, I’ll catch up on the older films I’ve missed so far. First on the list is ‘Spectre’. Been a JB fan, have the dvds, and watched all the movies. Love Daniel Craig, but I still like Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan. I’ll catch the SW movie probably in Jan.
I grew up with ‘Peanuts’ and the Charlie Brown characters — so I enjoyed the first movie using better anime imaging about them just a few weeks ago. I was surprised that the Shultz family allowed it, considering all these years of 2 dimensional 30 min cartoon shorts. I was impressed with the movie, the perpetual themes, and they showed many forgotten or less drawn characters too.
Astro-San — Sounds like after the first few viewings, you may be able to see intentional ‘mistakes’ or added obscure images I keep hearing that movies sometimes contain in the background for the Star Wars movie.
Though overpriced, I still find that eating hot dogs and buttered popcorn with a ice-cold soda or bottled water taste better while with good friends or best friend and sitting in a theater than eating the exact same thing at home looking at the TV that may be a big-screen TV, and may have surround digital/dolby surround sound, at a friend’s house, and with reclining lazy-boy chairs. Some of my friends like to add mochi crunch to hot buttered popcorn, along with furikake stuff that usually goes on hot rice, but that gives away where I’m at.
Then again, a pot of hot-chocolate to drink on a cold night, bundled in a warm blanket watching the TV isn’t so bad either.
Unless something just pokes me in the eye, I actually rarely see mistakes or the like in movies. I’m always amused when they are pointed out to me though. 🙂
As to movie theaters, I do like going with friends. These days, I don’t go solo. The move theater experience is certainly a different one from viewing it at home. I remember when the latest Godzilla movie came out, my friends and I were all like, “Yeah, we have to see this in IMAX 3D.”
Still, I do like movies at home at times, sitting in my way too comfortable rocker recliner. (I say “way too comfortable” because nearly every time I sit in it to watch something, even if it is just for thirty minutes, I often just nod off.)
Aghhh Eva x Touta chapter incoming. I cant waaaait
Heh. Or at least, the Kirie confrontation of Touta over it. 😉
OH MY GOD ! Breaking news ! : “on twitter, Akamatsu told of a surprise at UQ Holder for 2016, and as the majority of people who react to tweet, I actually think it smells like an animated ad.”
Source : my friend on the french forums “Kiba”.
Pity really do whatsoever a lively and ESPECIALLY do not take studiot Xebec for adaptation please!
ps: at any troll or hater who is tempted to say, even as a (very) bad joke: “Yeah surprise announced by Akamatsu has finally stopping UQ Holder lol”. Know that this this news by Akamatsu-sensei is addressed to readers and fans of UQ Holder, not the obsessive of Negima and 3-A lool^^. So YES is probably the announcement of an anime. ^^
Do you have a link to the tweet?
Also, in before the surprise is something really small and everyone gets disappointed for having their expectations too high.
I agree, the only studio that would be doing UQ Holder is A1-pictures. But they have something like 5 projects going on.
I would expect the announcement to most likely be a 25 page chapter with 3 colour pages â la Hiro Mashima.
A-1 would be a pretty great studio for UQ Holder. Or even David Production since Akamatsu seems to be a big Jojo fan. Although I’m not sure how much(if any) say the mangaka has in which studio adapts their manga.
I feel like Mashima is an outlier in the weekly manga business with how many pages he does(remember that time he did double chapters 4 weeks in a row!), also Akamatsu is like a decade older than him so I’m not expecting that.
ps : sorry for double post if my previous post his in double.
I cleaned that up. I’ve been busy and didn’t notice that no one (myself included) had checked the spam queue, which is where the software dumped things. It is very rare for anything to show up there, but something in all of your posts triggered it. Not sure what that was.
Interesting. I take it no further news on this?
Nice pic of Super Tota! Its better than the one on the cover of Vol 1 – the Title and stuff on his red shirt removed. Still waiting for that 2nd sword he is supposed to also use — maybe the story has changed since that group drawing was done at the beginning of the manga.
Yeah, he has a talking sword too, only that has stopped being used. 😆 This manga is just all over the place.
For some reason chapter 106 is out. Unless I used time travel to the next week?
Dude, I rushed to check. If you are still getting it, you might want to get screen grabs ’cause I’m just getting the placeholder (on Crunchyroll at least).
Heh!heh! OK, I read it. They had it up briefly, then caught their mistake and took it down. I posted spoiler info, but I’m saving the chapter review until Monday evening, U.S. time.
It’s still on the site i read it from. Bwhahaha. But out of respect i wont say from where. haha.
Could always stkill get a couple screen shots if needed.
Not needed, but I appreciate the offer. 🙂
Unfortunately I do not have links to the tweet, only its translation by my friend “kiba”. However the tweet says only that we sensei reserve a big surprise to start or spring 2016. If akamatsu gave more details, knowing the minutiae of Kiba-san, he would have told us when he trensmitted news on our French forum .
I understand your doubts but I think really that it is an anime adaptation. Chapters with color pages and additional pages are usually annonced in advance. Moreover Akamatsu never did special chapters without links with his stories, as mashima could do with his crossovers or his special cristhmas chapters, at least, it seems to me.
Finally, he speaks of a surprise for “early spring or 2016”, in fact he says himself just “2016”. This a bit too wide for just a chapter with color pages right?
We can take this new in all directions, the animated adaptation remains the most likely.
PS : I don’t what i’s happen with the site. It don’t catch my comments today (I re-post this cemment for the third or fourth time lol).
Actually, the software on the site dumped them to a spam queue. I’m not sure how that happened since you have lots of approved comments. It should be smarter than that, but something apparently triggered them. And as I said elsewhere, none of us noticed there were messages in the spam queue. ^_^; Sorry about that.
