Fate/kaleid liner プリズマ☆イリヤ 3rei!!
Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 3rei!! 02

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 3rei!! 02The short, red hair girl who’d helped kidnap Miyu prepares to attack Tanaka and Ilya. Ilya gets Tanaka to flee, so the girl, who has loaded the Berserker card, throws a card in their path. She introduced herself as Beatrice Flowerchild of the Ainsworth, but is called away before she can kill Ilya and Tanaka. The two make their way into town and stop at a ramen shop, where Ilya is forced to eat mapo tofu against her will. She has no money, but is saved with Gil shows up to eat. Gil is amused by Ilya’s plan to rescue Miyu and Tanaka’s goal of destroying the Ainsworth. As such, he agrees to help him since he has his own business with the Ainsworth.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 3rei!! 02Gil’s stash isn’t as vast as it once was, but he produces the artifact Vimana, a large cloth. As long as they hold it, they will be invisible, but loud noises they make will still be heard as well as any smells they produce. The trio make their way to the giant crater, where they pass through a barrier in the center. The barren, snowy crater becomes a nice, green place with a large castle. They see the tall girl who’d attacked Ilya before emerge from a side door. They get inside undetected, where they find a prison cell. Inside is Miyu’s older brother, who’s sad because Miyu has been captured. Ilya speaks of Ilya, giving him some relief. Ilya wants to rescue him, but the tall girl returns in her Gilgamesh armor. As such, Gil has to respond to her challenge.

Thoughts/Review:

And so we come to Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 3rei!! 02, which had a lot more comedy in it than I had expected while pushing the plot forward.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 3rei!! 02

As I had previously stated, Tanaka is taking on all of the comedy stuff with Ilya doing the comebacks to whatever thing Tanaka says. I like Tanaka and her ignorant but brilliant stupidity.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 3rei!! 02

I keep expecting Tanaka to do something incredible to show herself to be ultra powerful. Or rather, give me some sign that she’s powerful. That did not happen. Now that I think about it, I’m OK with her the way she is for now. However, I do hope that we start seeing some character development for Tanaka in the near future.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 3rei!! 02

In this episode, Tanaka wasn’t the only comedic element. I laughed out loud when I saw Kirei (or what looked like Kirei, and was voiced by Kirei’s seiyuu) running the ramen restaurant. The fact that his ramen shop only makes mapo tofu is even funnier. The fact that he charges outrageous rates is funny. And the fact that he demanded Ilya pay the bill is funny. I hope he shows up again.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 3rei!! 02

Having Gil show up was unexpected. However, it gives the defenseless Ilya and the brilliantly stupid Tanaka some needed protection. I like how Gil’s reasons for helping Ilya and Tanaka fit with the Gilgamesh persona. Plus, he called Ilya “oneechan,” which she loved. 😉

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 3rei!! 02

I still don’t know whom the Asuna-looking chick is, but I think I understand why she has armor that looks like Gilgamesh’s. As such, I’m rather interested in her upcoming fight with Gil. I get the feeling that it could turn out to be quite humorous.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 3rei!! 02

Then there’s Beatrice Flowerchild. Her use of a Berserker card is different in that she’s not making full use of it. Considering Beatrice’s personality, Berserker kinda makes sense. However, she still appears to wield Thor’s hammer, Mjölnir. I don’t know why she only has a giant arm though. Is the Heroic Spirit of Beatrice’s Class Card actually Thor? That would be interesting, especially since Fate/Zero had Hercules.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 3rei!! 02

I hope that Ilya gets Ruby back soon, or at the least, the ability to tap into her magic girl powers. So far, things have been OK with Ilya just being helpless and such, but I want Ilya to have some powers and abilities to be able to defend herself.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 3rei!! 02

Finally, looks like we now know why Miyu called Shirou “oniichan.” Shirou of the alternate world does appear to be Shirou. And Miyu is the Holy Grail, which fits with some of my feelings about her.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 3rei!! 02

In the end, Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 3rei!! 02 was a funny episode that also helped push plot forward some. So far, a good start to this new series.

So there has been a number of changes in relation to the original manga. Could be that they’re cutting down on material to save time, but I find their choice of scenes to be rather interesting. Many changes are minor, like one or two sentences, but there has also been one pretty big one. Seems like they’re mostly cutting out foreshadowing for several future events and/or reveals. If you don’t consider it spoilers, Astro, I could make a quick list of cuts and what originally went there.

Alright, let’s start from the very beginning of the season.
Or, even earlier, from the end of the previous one. In the manga everything goes more or less the same as in the adaptation up to the point where Miyu wakes up and has her tearful reunion with Illya, with two exceptions: first is that it takes Irisvies longer to reach the site of battle. Second is that in the panels where the night sky is visible there’s an enormous, glowing crack going through it, left by Enuma Elish. It’s not called an anti-world Noble Phantsm for nothing. Here’s where the original and the anime diverge- right when Illya proposes they return to their homes, lightning strikes through the crack, hitting everyone present, including Gilgamesh, pretty much ending any potential fight before it could even begin,. In its wake, Beatrice and the other girl descend from the same crack, the latter landing on the Archer card and immediately installing it (and no, she wasn’t already wearing armor, her boots just look weird). From there it mostly goes the way it did on the first episode- the tall girl (I can’t wait for the anime to reveal her name, this is awkward) announces that they’re there for Miyu, the latter protests and gets kicked by Beatrice for good measure. Before any of the heroes can even lift themselves off the ground, the aftershock comes from the rift between worlds, engulfing the entire area, and swithing it around with the parallel dimension’s version. When Irisviel finally reaches the place in her car she finds an undisturbed forest and no trace of Illya and the rest. End of the chapter and of 2wei!, roll credits, see you in Drei. Gotta say, that was a pretty bold way to end a series, even if a continuation was coming.
I’ll get to the rest after I catch some sleep, it’s pretty late over here.

Sorry for the delay. Diving right back into the manga/anime comparison,
The first difference after the adaptation’s done catching up to the start of 3rei is that in the original when Illya sees the city for the first time, she notices that the snow and the crater aren’t the only changes- the shoreline is a much farther away than it used to be. Not a major change but again, most of them aren’t. The rest of the episode is more or less identical to the source. The biggest difference comes in the second episode, during the encounter with Beatrice. After cornering the girls with the thrown car she actually hits Tanaka with the utility pole, with enough force to break the pavement under her. When Tanaka stands up, slightly wobbly but seemingly (and miraculously) no worse for the wear, B. rushes in for a good old punch with the giant fist, knocking T. into the car. As terrified Illya rushes to her, Tanaka asks who she is, why she’s here and if she’s going to run away. Illya composes herself, states her name and declares that she’s in this world to save Miyu. Hearing that Beatrice becomes enraged that she wants to steal “their grail”, un-includes the berserker card and prepares to install it, boasting that there won’t be enough of the two to bury. At that point she’s inerrupted by whoever’s calling her and leaps away. Tanaka dusts herself up and reaffirms that despite the hits she took she’s somehow completely okay, and anime and manga meet up again with Tanaka’s declaration that her role is to destroy the Ainsworths. Next change is during the scene with our favourite fake priest, here for some reason acting as a Ramen chef. Still not as strange as Caren working as a school nurse I guess. Firstly, his answer to Illya asking why it’s snowing (“it always snows in the summer”) has a bit of a different context- Illya previously asked Tanaka the same question, and got the same answer but at the time dismissed i just as her being Tanaka. Now she gets told that the second time and it’s becoming apparent that somehing’s REALLY wrong with this world. Secondly, when asked where the Ainsworths are lockated, Kirei first reacts with shock when the name’s mentionned and then plays dumb, changing the topic to money when Illya presses him. Oh, and from what he says there are no active schools remaining in the city, making Tanaka’s outfit even more baffling.
The last change comes towards the end of the episode, when Illya Tanaka and ko-Gil find this world’s Emiya Shirou locked up in a cell. When the prisoner introduces himself Gilgamesh clearly recognizes him, expresses surprise and amusement that “they still let [him] live” and says that he’s glad to meet him. There actually still traces of that in the anime if you watch Gilgamesh’s expression in that scene: http://imgur.com/a/v1VG8
Aaaand, that’s it for those two episodes. Might do it again if any changes crop up in the future. To finish the post, here’s a bit of trivia: Kirei working as a chef, or more specifically, his choice of a dish is a refence to a notorious scene from the Heaven’s Feel route of Fate/Stay Night involving him and mapo tofu. You’ll probably see it when the movies finally come out.

        • Aumanor says:

Oh, and Gilgamesh doesn’t call the cloth Vimana, he mentions that getting to the center of the crater would be much easier if he had it. Vimana was the strange flying ship he used in Fate/Zero and 2wei!. As to what exactly the cloth is, we won’t learn till quite a bit later, though it is possible to make an educated guess. Again the manga gives a bit more of a hint as Gil says that this isn’t the way or form in which it is meant to be used. But then again, it’s not too important.

          No problem. ^_^

And thanks for the detailed info. That’s interesting stuff.

I’m looking forward to that now. 😀

I’m not going to spoil anything. But so far, is good; and in my opinion this part of the plot has a better pacing than the manga.

Just one thing Astro: Hercules is the berserker from Fate/Stay “Insert storyline”. Fate/Zero had another berserker:
Lancelot
I am wondering why didn’t the author (at this point at least) make some kind of hint or relation with the berserker Servant and Illya, as it is her companion on the original story/universe.

Plus, it always reminds me of the “bersercar” of Carnival Phantasm. Hilarious. (I recommend it, as I watched it without knowing almost anything from the other Nasuverse elements, apart from the original Fate anime and the non-existant Tsukihime anime, and I still enjoyed it.)

Well, Beatrice is with the Ainsworth and she has the Berserker Class Card. Miyu is held by the Ainsworth and she’s the Ilya of this Earth. I think that could be the nod to the original Ilya/Berserker connection.

Plus, it always reminds me of the “bersercar” of Carnival Phantasm. Hilarious.

      😆 Oh, that was awesome.

So the Kirie of this world basically found peqce and meaning to life due to mapo tofu.

  4. Geburah san says:

As long as you dont want to leave without paying, hes a relatively decent guy there xD
but he knows more than it seems same as his original version
Also about Gil kid manga version explanation of his “nerfed” state
The reason his Gate of Babylon is so empty is due to the blond gall having his card installed, thus having most of his treasure with her.
Despite that, if Gil gets in contact with some of his treasure he can own them again due to Original ownership>> Fake Install ownership
Thanks for the info. ^_^
To be more precise, it’s because he’s only half-incarnated (Illya pushed him out before he could finish) and most of his weapons stayed in the card
