UQ Holder Chapter 137

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

UQ Holder Chapter 137As Touta and Kirie attempt to learn who the old man butler who challenged them is, he strips Kirie of her panties. Kirie summons Kurobo for Touta, but the old man uses magic that easily knocks the two out. When they awake, they fine Santa, Kuroumaru, Karin, and Ikkuu with them in a massively secured cell. Ikkuu recounts how they were bested by the old man. As they chat, Touta discovers that in the next cell, Mizore, Shinobu, Isana, and Honoka are there.

Meanwhile, Karin decides to tease Kirie on how far she went with Touta. It is then that Kirie learns the other UQH members are there to spy. Kirie continues to deny things, but Touta doesn’t help her.

The cell opens and the butler frees them, stating Yukihime vouched for them. He reveals himself as the elf ermine Chamo. Chamo lets them know that he was Negi’s companion and that he knows of other secret workshops of Negi’s. Since the UQH folks want to know about Negi, Chamo decides to let them see via Chachazero, Eva’s old doll pactio partner. Chachazero is repaired, but can no longer move.

Dana bursts in, preempting whatever Chachazero had to show and presenting a video tape of her own. Chamo explains about the multiple timelines as Dana rams the tape into Chachazero. They are shown a look at the world of 2135 and told how Asuna woke after 130 years of sleep. However, thanks to CHAO Lingshen, Chao and Eva take this Asuna back to the time she left, thus creating a “happy end” timeline where Touta’s creation wasn’t needed. As such, Asuna had a normal life and at graduation, Yue and Nodoka confess to Negi. He has to turn them down as he likes someone else, then seeks out Chisame.

Thoughts/Review:

Heh! Akamatsu-sensei provided the last person anyone expected to show up to challenge Touta and Kirie at Nagi’s former home in Kyoto. That said, I’m glad he did.

Chamo Returns

Albert Chamomile, aka the elf ermine Chamo, returns in UQ Holder chapter 137. When the spoilers came out, the butler’s panty stealing ability certainly reminded one of Chamo in human form. For me, it was the tender moment he had with Chachazero. Even though Chachazero was a scene stealer in Negima, causing Akamatsu-sensei to bury her at times, he did show that Chamo and Chachazero became quite close. She carried him places (when the magic was strong enough to allow her to move) and even brought out booze to share with him. So when Chamo petted Chachazero’s head, I felt a bit choked up.

One thing that I noticed is not that “Mack Daddy” Chamo’s panty stealing skills are SSS rank, but that his magical abilities have are pretty good. He was able to easily toss Touta, then spring some kind of massive magic circle to knock him out, then knock out Kirie before she had a moment to react. So in a combat situation, it would seem that he can quite easily handle his own.

I’d often wondered if Chamo’s ermine form was his true form or not. Although Akamatsu-sensei didn’t make much of it, Chamo was referred to as an elf. Further, the ermine form was an indication of someone who was being punished. Negi was threatened with being turned into an ermine. And Chamo was a mischief maker, so I could see him being an elf turned ermine. However, even though he has a human appearance now, I would guess that ermine is his natural form.

Dana Returns

UQ Holder Chapter 137The massively unexpected character to return is Dana. I can’t say that I’ve ever been that much of a fan of Dana’s. She’s kinda rammed into the series and she took over the role of a true shinso vampire, knocking Eva down to faux shinso vampire.

So Chamo and Dana are going to be the vehicles for exposition regarding Negi’s past. My not caring for Dana aside, she is the right vehicle to fill in any gaps left by Chamo. However, will Akamatsu-sensei allow her (or Chamo for that matter) give us any meaningful information? In Negima, I got irritated when Negi needed information, some characters had the needed information, but they wouldn’t give it to him ’cause reasons.

Frankly, I want some information on Isana and Honoka. And that’s just for a start.

Negima Returns

I have to admit that the Negima fan in me loved the flashback when it moved into new story territory. It is nice seeing Chachamaru and Eva together, something that Akamatsu-sensei avoided letting us see when she returned in the current time and visited UQH HQ.  To that end, it was also nice seeing Kotaro in the flashback. I laughed when I saw how Chachamaru carried him and Fate off like animals. 😆

I liked seeing how Eva and Asuna cleared the way so that Yue and Nodoka could make their graduation confession. Having Nodoka and Yue decide that they would share Negi doesn’t surprise me. After all, they joined Negi along with Al and Jack when Negi was possessed by the MotB.

Negi turning down them isn’t surprising either, even though he cares for them both. However, this is where Akamatsu-sensei seems to be getting ready to set up what he had stated on Twitter (I think) — Negi was in love with Chisame. I never got that out of Negima. I felt that he like Chisame, but I always felt he was closer to Asuna or Eva rather than Chisame. Chisame was a confidant and a pactio partner, but just not an obvious choice.

Kirie is UQ Holder‘s Chisame. So it is possible that what we see with Negi x Chisame may get mirrored with Kirie x Touta.

Chachazero

Finally, there’s the return of Chachazero. One thing I have “hated” Akamatsu-sensei for was his killing of Chachazero in the first chapter of UQ Holder. I know Chachazero is a massive scene stealer because the doll is awesome beyond belief. In the one flashback Negi had, we didn’t get a good feel for Chachazero as a character. However, during the Kyoto arc when she single-handedly defeated Chigusa, Chachazero showed how awesome she truly is.

UQ Holder Chapter 137

We were never told why Eva abandoned Chachazero. UQ Holder chapter 137 gives us a hint that it may have had something to do with the war 30 years ago. Chamo repaired her and cleaned her up, but as he stated, she will no longer move. The question is, “Why?” Is it because Chachazero was “killed?” I’ve theorized that Chachazero was ensouled, which is why she could talk and providing she was powered with magic, she could move. I’m hoping that Akamatsu-sensei gives us some answers, but I have zero confidence in that.

Touta not remembering Chachazero kinda annoys me. Or maybe he did recognize her since he was the one who mentioned the war 30 years ago. Touta did meet Chachazero via Dana’s castle.

Anyway, here’s hoping Chachazero can return to life, though I don’t expect Akamatsu-sensei to go that route.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

Well, it is massively late in my neck of the woods, and I have tons of work to do. So let me wrap this puppy up.

  • I chuckled when I noted that Chamo targeted Kuroumaru for his panty raid. Further proof that Kuroumaru is becoming a lovely girl. 😉
  • Even though there are a lot of characters, I’m glad Touta’s UQH team is in Kyoto along with Mizore, Shinobu, Honoka, and Isana.
  • After all of the massive ecchi content of late, it seems weird not having any to speak of. Not that I’m complaining, mind you.

In the end, UQ Holder chapter 137 was one I found highly enjoyable. I like getting more Negima stuff we were denied, and I like seeing Chamo and Chachazero return, even if she’s “dead.” Looking forward to seeing the continuation of the Negima flashback.

  1. Hmmm… I don’t have a problem with Negi x Chisame. In fact I always though of her as the most sensible one for the role of his “partner”. And I think she always was the one Negi was acting most respectfully towards. If you think about it, he is an “english gentleman”.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

      I can understand that.

As an aside, I do note that Chamo made mention that Chisame was Negi’s interest at that time. It wouldn’t surprise me if she turned him down, after which he moved on to Eva.

  2. Clyde says:

Heh, so Negi’s favorite was her ? I wonder in what ways She and Negi were “the same kind of people” according to Asuna (glasses ? lol).
It made me re-read Negima’s chapter 350 again, it was hinted it was either her or Eva.
It’s nice seeing Chachazero again, even in its inanimated form. It would be great to see it back to life.

It kinda surprised me when I learned that Akamatsu-sensei had communicated this at some point after Negima ended. Negi hadn’t shown any signs of attraction to Chisame. The way the manga is structured, one would think that Asuna would be the one Negi loved most, followed by Eva, Nodoka, and Yue (all roughly the same).

It made me re-read Negima’s chapter 350 again, it was hinted it was either her or Eva.

And I always figured Eva ’cause Eva made the most sense to me.

Absolutely. I know she was a scene stealer in Negima, which is why I suspect Akamatsu-sensei won’t bring her back to life. But I wish he would anyway.

  3. Yue Ayase says:

My thoughts are on the previous entry in your blog, but I still can’t seem to get past the Chisame thing, especially since in the end of the series she just becomes a massive hikki. It actually kinda cheapens the effect when the girl Negi likes is one that likes him back but is too stubborn to admit it. While I never disliked Chisame, far from it, it seems like an odd choice because she never once actively pursued Negi and in fact became very violent towards him especially as the series drew to a close. On a meta level it does make sense because she is the other half of the Naru clone (With Asuna being the first half) but on an emotional level I just don’t quite see it as much. It does give Akamatsu a convenient exit because there’s no way she’ll ever hook up with him, thus resolving the romantic issue without actually resolving it.

Also Dana hitting Mizore was a bit of a sore spot. While neither character is really my favourite, Mizore is still a normal human as opposed to…. almost anyone else in that group.

    • OverMaster says:

“and in fact became very violent towards him especially as the series drew to a close”

To be fair, other than Asuna and Akira, every girl in the cast became very violent towards Negi past the Mundus Magicus arc. Both in the Sports Festival arc and in the final sneeze where they all gangpile on him to beat him up over something that wasn’t his fault (and even Asuna joined in there). At least Chisame actually gave a reason for her anger beyond the other girls’ just plain jealousy (Misa, even Nodoka and Yue) or wishes to mess him around (Yuuna, Haruna).

      • Yue Ayase says:

You’re not wrong but none of them turned a Kill Sat on him because they were frustrated. Asuna was very violent towards Negi at the start of the series but it waned heavily. And while the girls got a little crazy during the final chapters, Chisame still couldn’t bring herself to admit to her feelings or even to curb her violent tendencies. Don’t forget that Yue and Nodoka actually recognized that the whole “Get Negi to spill who he likes” bit was really stupid and defected against Haruna to protect Negi’s feelings.

Hacking Chachamaru’s satellite was just a teensy bit over the top.

        • OverMaster says:

Yue and Nodoka had to be pretty much guilt tripped by Asuna into reacting, IIRC, left to their own devices (or rather Haruna’s, since they were following her cue when they definitely should’ve known better by then) they most likely wouldn’t have reacted in time.

The rest of the girls were outright midraping Negi then, while making him tear up, and in the recent extra chapter, all of them but Setsuna, Asuna and Chisame (and presumably those who didn’t show up like Mana, Misora or Hakase, who likely just washed their hands off the whole affair) were gagging and tying Negi against his will to keep him as a trophy for a contest. Let’s not kid ourselves, Class 3-A as a whole might be awfully horrible to Negi despite all he’s done for them.

          • Magister541 says:

Where did you read the recent extra chapter?

          • AstroNerdBoy says:

I never saw the Negima extra chapter come out. Was it done in English? I saw a poor version of School Rumble’s extra chapter.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

To be honest, I think Akamatsu-sensei’s obsession with Chisame (and more recently, Kirie) may be due to his wife. I don’t have anything really to base this on, but I’ve wondered if Akamatsu-sensei has put some of his wife’s traits into those characters. Either that or the characters represent Akamatsu-sensei’s ultimate fantasy waifu.

But yeah, there was no indication of Negi having feelings for Chisame. Yes, early on he described himself as a huge fan of her work as a cosplayer, and they became closer during the adventures on the Magic World, but otherwise, there were no romantic indications. If anything, the manga is set up for Asuna to be the one Negi falls in love with, especially considering how depressed he got when they were fighting. After that, Eva would have been #2, followed closely by Nodoka and Yue.

Also Dana hitting Mizore was a bit of a sore spot. While neither character is really my favourite, Mizore is still a normal human as opposed to…. almost anyone else in that group.

Ugh. I had meant to comment on that. While Mizore is well above average for someone her age, as you pointed out, she’s still a human, unless she’s been cloned somehow. then modified.

      • Yue Ayase says:

I think it’s just a convenient out since the ending firmly established that they don’t get together. Chisame will likely try to convince him that the other girls are more worth his feelings than her.

      • Dargor says:

I mean supposedly, Naru is supposed to be based on his wife, while Asuna (albeit, she really drifted from that as time went on, thank god) and Chisame are more or less different aspects of Naru, and Kirie seems to be following a similar trend, so…yeah, probably.

Which is kinda weird, being that Asuna was my fave and I thought Chisame was decent enough, I can’t stand Kirie whatsoever. There’s literally nothing about that character that I can say I like.

        • Yue Ayase says:

I didn’t mind Kirie at first, even with her less than stellar personality, and I honestly didn’t even mind her falling for Touta, but her forced importance and quite frankly story-breaking powers really dwindle her in my eyes. I’m far more interested in what the other members of UQ are up to than Kirie calling Touta incompetent for the umpteenth time. I also rather liked her and Santa as a pair but alas those days are long gone.

          • AstroNerdBoy says:

I don’t mind her reset powers as Akamatsu-sensei already established the concept in Negima. However, it would be interesting to see a negative consequence come of Kirie’s reset powers.

I’m far more interested in what the other members of UQ are up to than Kirie calling Touta incompetent for the umpteenth time.

            That’s certainly true.

For me, I’m wanting Karin to get some quality time with Touta. I’m wanting her to fall hard for the idiot MC, just because I think that would be amusing and fun.

        • AstroNerdBoy says:

Kirie comes off as forced on us. Other than the brief, melodramatic look at her tragic past, we know nothing about her, other than her powers and that she has tons of money. Of course Akamatsu-sensei isn’t the greatest for exploring characters. Neither Chisame nor Naru were deeply explored. But I think they were characters that were more easily relatable.

  4. LGM says:

So it is now in stone, Negima is a true happy ending. And UQ Holder happen in the original timeline. Thank the gods.

For a moment there I seriously have my doubts & worries that Negima’s ending might be a case of original Star Wars ending; a supposedly happy ending that end up being horrible after a long period of time.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

So it is now in stone, Negima is a true happy ending. And UQ Holder happen in the original timeline. Thank the gods.

Or at least started in the original timeline, but has veered off thanks to Kirie’s ability to backtrack and take a different “choice” timeline (based on the theory that for every action we take, there are multiple timelines/universes where other actions are taken). Frankly, I would love to see Asuna NOT return to the past at the end of the timeline they are currently in.

      • Dargor says:

I’ll be honest, the futuristic adventures of Asuna were really something I wanted to have happen at the end of Negima. I’d still be on board with it, but I’d rather pass on UQ Holders cast having anything to do with it.

I still can’t fathom for the life of me why he didn’t go with that and instead create a series that’s so heavily dependent on cultivating old feelings for Negima’s cast without anyone from it. That effort falls completely apart when there’s no characters in the core group that were apart or invested in it. Its like with Chamo showing up, that reconciliation would’ve actually worked if there was a character there that actually knew him, as opposed to tie it in with characters that are effectively in the dark about everything. All this does is say to me that Akamatsu’s intentions with the series went completely out the window at some point, and is desperately trying to tie what he started out working on with what is essentially “Negima, but without the good stuff.”

        • AstroNerdBoy says:

All this does is say to me that Akamatsu’s intentions with the series went completely out the window at some point, and is desperately trying to tie what he started out working on with what is essentially “Negima, but without the good stuff.”

I don’t disagree there. I’ve long thought that Akamatsu-sensei wanted to do a manga like Mashima-sensei’s Fairy Tail, filled with a bunch of action-adventure stories and little overall plot. Initially, I think he may have thought about exploring immortality, a theme that Negima seemed like it would explore via Negi. But then out of the blue, the UQH limo shows up, and then its mindless adventures with an MC that could do anything.

          But I digress…

The problem is that after Negima, Akamatsu-sensei wasn’t going to be allowed to do some random action adventure title, especially when it is tied to Negima.

          • Yue Ayase says:

As someone who isn’t a fan of Fairy Tail at all, I’m perfectly okay with that. 😉 FT has serious writing issues and often uncomfortable fanservice.

          • AstroNerdBoy says:

Fairy Tail wasn’t bad in the beginning. It has just gotten out of control with an insane number of characters.

          • Yue Ayase says:

Yes, FT started out fine before spiraling out of control with too many irrelevant characters and honestly the same conclusion to each arc…. I hit my breaking point in Edolas where that girl that Natsu really liked but was dead turned out not to be dead and instead was trapped in an alternate world. As far as I know she hasn’t had any relevance to the plot since.

          • AstroNerdBoy says:

Haha! No, she hasn’t. I think that’s part of Mashima-sensei’s “can’t have anyone really die, and we can’t have anyone be really bad.” Not that I’m opposed to redemption, mind you.

          • Yue Ayase says:

I’m not either but it makes death so cheap and the fact that she wasn’t relevant going forward makes the whole thing a waste. I’ve heard about a number of instances where characters died only to come back moments later. FT is really only good for the fanservice and even that gets to be too much at times.

          • AstroNerdBoy says:

I’ve heard about a number of instances where characters died only to come back moments later.

And its all true. A few villains may have died. A big percentage of them switch sides and become good.

      • LGM says:

I understand what you are trying to say & also agree that an Asuna centered in the future manga sound great. But at the same time I am also thankful that Negima happy ending is real, however cheesy & rushed it was.

I was very hype for UQ Holder when it started out but 3 chapters in I felt uncomfortable about it.

Not because its bad or anything but UQ Holder had a very horrible possibility of telling me that, after Negima ended, after the person Negima managed to save his father, fixed or on the way of fixing all the problems he faced, was happily together with friends & families, even if Asuna was there to help him, everything fell apart in less than a century.

Thank the gods that is not the chase. I like Star Wars Force Awakens enough, but I will always hated it for telling me that in the end the Solos & Skywalkers didn’t really had a happy ending.

        • AstroNerdBoy says:

Thank the gods that is not the chase. I like Star Wars Force Awakens enough, but I will always hated it for telling me that in the end the Solos & Skywalkers didn’t really had a happy ending.

Well, they had many other happy endings of a sort — destroying two Death Stars and defeating the Empire. 😉

          • LGM says:

You’re either joking or never actually seen Force Awakens before.

1st thing 1st, they didn’t actually defeat the Empire; they kill the emperor yes, but the Empire just restructure into the New Order in the coming decades.
Princess Leia who later became a commander tried to conjure up a force to destroy what left of the Empire for good but was blocked & denied by the corrupt politicians that she helped put in power. & this happen while the New Order went around the galaxy kidnapping children & brainwashing them into storm troopers.

In the meantime Han Solo & Leia Organa married & had a son, who became a padawan in Luke Skywalker’s Jedi temple. That son later turn to the dark side, kill all his fellows pedawans & become the New Order’s Kylo Ren. This turn both Luke & Han into broken shells of their former self. Both left Leia alone to fight both the corrupt senate of the new republic & the New Order.

Then Kylo Ren finally turn into the dark side completely by killing his father Han Solo. Leaving her mum broken & in despair.
Happy endings of a sort? Really?

“Yeah, my life is a complete mess, everything I tried to achieve in my life failed horribly, & my friends & families are either dead or in agony. But at least I killed all those people on that 2 Death Stars, right?”

          • AstroNerdBoy says:

Well, I was kidding, but at the end of Star Wars, are they happy or no? At the end of Return of the Jedi, are they happy or no? 😉

          • Dargor says:

No, the Empire’s governmental infrastructure collapsed not long after the Emperors death. The New Republic forced disarmament treaties and some rather punishing reparations effectively saw the Empire effectively defunct in what few territories it still controlled. So, yeah, the Empire did get beaten back and defeated.

The First Order meanwhile is a Military Junta that retreated so far into the outer rim they basically fell off the map. The only one that saw them as a threat was Leia, while the rest of the New Republic more or less deemed them largely irrelevant. Sure, we know that’s not true, but Starkiller base was probably their first accomplishment on a large military scale. They’re only a real threat now because of the Starkiller base wiping most of the Republics fleet off the map. Without that, I don’t think the First Order would otherwise survive an all out war with the Republic.

          • AstroNerdBoy says:

Is this canon info? If so, why was there a resistance if the First Order wasn’t that much. In the film, the impression given is that they are a rather powerful military force. Considering how they have spies everywhere, I had the impression that they were well funded and possibly controlled a significant amount of territory.

I wonder if Kuroumaru and Santa will actually get anything to do this arc
(and enough with all the sexual assault, it’s not funny)

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

I wonder if Kuroumaru and Santa will actually get anything to do this arc

I wouldn’t hold my breath. 🙁 But it would be nice for those two to get a chance to shine some.

  6. ZeroMGA says:

It’s interesting having picked up UQ Holder without ever reading Negima, it’s meant a lot of wiki-ing to learn enough to know what’s going on or care about it. Eventually I’ll get to reading the Negima series though.

For all that happened my favorite part would still be the little blurb that Kuromaru was targeted, because we last saw him wearing a fundoshi, iirc. The idea that “she” quietly changed to wearing panties made me squee. Especially adding on the scene where I can picture a very embarrassed Kuromaru trying to use the “man to man” justification.

Eh, what can I say, they are still my OTP.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

Up until the end, I find Negima to be pretty good. It is very good at times. It just suffered from, “OK, the manga is ending immediately, so everyone lived happily ever after.”

For all that happened my favorite part would still be the little blurb that Kuromaru was targeted, because we last saw him wearing a fundoshi, iirc. The idea that “she” quietly changed to wearing panties made me squee.

Yes, Kuroumaru should just become a lovely girl and have done with it. 🙂

  7. Dashie says:

I knew it all along that it would be Chisame thank you very much. Whew that takes a load off my shoulders now knowing who it is. It will be interesting to see how she responds and what their future will be like. Any thoughts on this?

    • Yue Ayase says:

Given that Negima’s ending firmly establishes her as a shut-in I don’t expect anything to come of this. Chisame has never been honest with herself about her feelings, why would she start now?

      • Gamen says:

Plus my impression was that Makie was his s.o. at the time of the Negima’s epilogue, what with her standing close to him, referring to Nagi as father, and being said to visit him on her days off.

        • AstroNerdBoy says:

I had seen that as Makie not being able to let Negi go, but I can see how you thought what you did.

      • AstroNerdBoy says:

Chisame has never been honest with herself about her feelings, why would she start now?

        A form of retconning? 😉

        • nt122 says:

Have to remeber those chapters were rushed so, he may have not been able to actually point that out due to..those reasons he rushed the ending.

          • AstroNerdBoy says:

True, but throughout the course of the manga, Akamatsu-sensei didn’t set up a romantic link between Chisame and Negi. Maybe he had planned to do so if the manga had continued, but in what we got, that didn’t happen.

          • nt122 says:

Well, when Chamo pulled out that love meter he looked at Chisame because it seems she was way up the list. Thats kind of why I mention that.

          • AstroNerdBoy says:

Well, that’s true. So it would be better if I said that any romantic elements between Chisame and Negi weren’t played up. Things were more played up for Asuna to be the romantic interest, at least until the Magic World arc.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

I suspect she’ll turn him down. In Negima, she didn’t end up with Negi.

      • Durra says:

Where was that shown? Her staying as a recluse could have been a conscious decision, and we know she continued to work with Negi despite that lifestyle.

        • AstroNerdBoy says:

Right, meaning she didn’t end up with him. To be honest, Negima would suggest that Negi ended up with no one, but did have his battle harem helping him for the rest of their lives.

That doesn’t mean anything of the sort. You can still be a recluse from society in general, while still having close relations with a single person or few people.

The ending left Negi’s personal life status completely vague, and Chisame’s ending in no way means that she didn’t end up with Negi.

The butler was Kamo! how many years an ermine can live? Is Chachazero dead?… (I would like Evangeline could do something, but it depends on the author) so Evangeline didn’t abandon her, it was because Chachazero was broke or someone took Chachazero’s soul away Evangeline gave her.
‘I’ve placed them in my special safe that can withstand an attack from Eva herself’ Seriously? Even Chamo evolved in his own way.

‘A few more secret workshops of his of which Yukihime is unaware’ lol
Instead of “Find the dragon balls” it would be as “Find the secret workshops”

Poor Mizore… Dana doesn’t forgive anyone who calls old lady her.

I’m confuse… The paralel world, different time axis from them, where did Negima end was a parallel world? That final never existed in UQ Holder? In what timeline are we now then?

The conversation they had with Kirie, in the end were almost all there, no one believes Kirie when she says that nothing happened between them, as she tells them that what they were doing at last night it was explain Touta how children are made

Not sure, but he’s supposed to be an elf ermine, so that’s the difference.

I suspect Akamatsu-sensei will make Chachazero “dead” because Chachazero is better than all the characters in UQH combined. 😉 But I would like to know more about how Chachazero came to “life” back when Eva made the doll her partner.

      😆 😆 😆 Awesome!

Yeah, that was kinda jacked up what happened to Mizore.

I’m confuse… The paralel world, different time axis from them, where did Negima end was a parallel world? That final never existed in UQ Holder? In what timeline are we now then?

We know for certain that the timeline we are in is not the one they were in at the end of Negima. While I hope this isn’t the case, there’s a strong chance that they are in the timeline where Asuna overslept. However, considering Asuna revived to help Touta and company, I’m hoping they are in a totally new timeline.

  9. Rob C. says:

Well, at least one my theories about UQ Holder’s timelines was validated. Question remains is which one is this. Asuna is awoken EARLY in this universe. Is inverse Mars happening thing now? I doubt it. So question is, how did this timeline happened aside from Kirie powers being source of the new timeline that her minute changes triggered something.
It’s hard to see how she alone through her actions to enrich herself steered the universe into this version of the Negima universe.

The flashbacks are fine, it gave some closure we never got with Negima. Question remains, what now? What is seeing this material going to change?

UQ Holder is not the future that was Chaos left, not is it the one was happy ending.

Inverse Mars existence happened, the world is stable and Negi DID save the day here too. So were left what went wrong that lead to it or MOTB got hint of the things to come.

I’ll be highly surprised if they got their hands on the Chao’s Watch (Thou Diane could get it her self without an issue.) Question: What would YOU do if you had the power to change the world?

Touta felt he was not needed in this timeline. Things going bad is where he is needed.

Well, that’s the real question — how did this timeline happen? There is the theory that for every decision, there’s another universe/timeline where another decision was made. Under that theory, this present timeline could have been created at any point after Asuna left for Mars.

I’ll be highly surprised if they got their hands on the Chao’s Watch (Thou Diane could get it her self without an issue.) Question: What would YOU do if you had the power to change the world?

To use the watch, they need a lot of magical power. So even if they did find it, there aren’t many true mages that we’ve seen other than Eva, and she seems weaker than her Negima self. (And Fate.)

As to what I would do with the power to change the world, I’d probably bungle it up. Knowing me, I’d get angry at the idiots and do horrible things to them. ^_^;;;;;; That’s why I’m glad I don’t have said power.

  10. Rob C. says:

I think there mages are still there. The entire story would be rather boring if they had fell from the wayside. They still have the school actively schooling people in magic. Also we have Inverse Mars itself and what mages live in the magic world so to speak.

Now that they know about the alternate timeline and Chaos has been mentioned. Now opens the door to where is Chaos in this timeline (unless this is Cutless or a sibling yet seen. Nether Cutless nor the other Chaos had powers.)

I think this Chapter maybe the hinging point for the entire Manga. Question will be what can Touta do about it. His nature is Anti-Magic by touch, Redirect/absorb magic ability. Thus he would need either have power being (like say, MOTB or Negi himself) blast him and he would need to cleverly redirect back at him without them suspecting what he was doing.

As for the Chisame thing, i think 138 will resolve what’s going on with that. If Chisame has effect on the future is hard to say, unless she was the hand that lead to the cloning machine that merged negi and asuna’s DNA into one. I don’t think could started out that goal, but it may be only get-around if she wanted have a child with Negi in his current “State” of being. IF the relationship survived beyond him being 11 year till adulthood (mentally).

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

I think there mages are still there.

You are correct, of course. Mages just haven’t played much of a role in the series, unlike Negima.

As for the Chisame thing, i think 138 will resolve what’s going on with that.

      I think you are correct.

  11. SPiky hair says:

Omg I never expected this reveal. We’re finally getting negima’s plot resolved like we thouht we would [tho at the cost of interfering w/ uq holder’s premise of ‘seeking out other immortal friends’> which arguably has been done already, but when I reread the 1st chapter, i feel like we’re missing out so much more potential].
ANd It’s chisame. chiu. chu. whatever. It makes sense. we knew that Negi wouldnt choose Nodoka or Yue, and in case of Makie [fav] even with her nervous stuttering at the final chapter of Negima, I still thought it would be as unlikely despte my rooting for her, since she’s gotten less development in comparison to other main cast members after they visit Mundus Magica. Chisame makes sense, she was a one off idol who eventually got dragged into negi’s quest and started taking more of an assertive advisor/supporter role to negi’s troubles along the journey. hell she even accompanied him during the Rakan training arc, geez. And when she did the pactio with Negi for first time, that was surprising. It seems in Negima’s happy end timeline is the one where Chisame becomes a fulltime neet/secluded advisor to Negi and friends? [is that the parallel world that Touta and friends live in or something? omg it’s getting confusing abit but Im willing to know for story hype payoff reasons]. I wonder how this confession is going to work out tho. I wonder if this is actually just a subversion, Chisame just happens to be there while Negi is searching for someone else. But I have hope this isnt the case. Likewise, I hope we get some confirmation for Isana and Honoka’s ancestors. it seems obvious that they’re together and the two brats are their descendants, but will akamatsu have the guts to show an actual confirmed relationship between them? One of the things I like about UQ Holder so far is Touta actually taking his relationship with Kirie seriously, rather than Akamatsu writing it off as another harem aspect thing. Without too much of the harem idea and more focus on a single relationship [albeit, w/ Yukihime as a backrow reference that will surely be referenced later on, if it doesnt work out], we can get a more solid story

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

Omg I never expected this reveal.

Yeah, Akamatsu-sensei surprised everyone with Chamo.

It seems in Negima’s happy end timeline is the one where Chisame becomes a fulltime neet/secluded advisor to Negi and friends?

That’s my impression. That’s why I think Chisame turns Negi down. Then he moves on to someone new. I’d kinda like it to be Eva, but who knows for sure. It could be Konoka, based on Touta’s family name.

Likewise, I hope we get some confirmation for Isana and Honoka’s ancestors. it seems obvious that they’re together and the two brats are their descendants, but will akamatsu have the guts to show an actual confirmed relationship between them?

With Isana and Honoka around, there’s a chance for that exploration. However, Akamatsu-sensei isn’t the greatest at exploring backstory for characters. I think that’s because if he says such-and-such about a character, then he’s forced to stick with it rather than have greater writing freedom.

  12. Rob C. says:

Sadly i think it comes down what sells the book if UQ Holder wants to survive and keep publishing….as much I want it to go back to the original premise of the series when it started out.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

I agree. That’s why the much stronger fanservice element to try to cheaply improve sales.

So Akamatsu-Sensei tweeted out, that he was pontificating via reading Emma, (yes, Kaoru Mori) even if the Bing translation has a Mr.
This makes, quite gleeful. Wished he was reading Otoyomegatari instead, he may pick up somethings from the peerless artwork, the series is renowned for.

I would like to have a second opinion since the word read wasn’t explicitly there, and I was inferring such.
But surely Bing translation couldn’t be that catastrophically wrong.

Well I knew it was Chisame who likes Negi, personally I think that Akamatsu-sensei established small, but important point of affection between Negi and Chisame … beginning with admiring his communiqués on his page and considering her beautiful as a cosplayer … a The part of the series was seen as he involved a little in his things, especially his cosplay presentation at the festival … also he noticed how Negi liked to have her close, as when she said she would not go to the Magic World, He is disappointed with him … also when he goes to meet with Godel he asks him to accompany her without giving a specific reason … Also, Negi I notice how I groom him during his training with the magic Erebea … In the end I consider that Negi began Admiring Chisame and in the Magical World he is considered the person closest to him … remember that Negi is a clever child that although he did not have experience in love, he may consider that love is The desire to have that person close…

Now, what is the posile real result that will happen in the next chapter … Chisame rejects Negi by arguing things as rational and sensible as that Negi is a child or that he is no longer a human, even she realizes That affectod e Negi is not true love but deep admiration … at the end of Negima gives us to understand that Negi and Chisame were not together (that of the priest and the epilogues), but that they are still treated, so it is possible A reunion in the future … and that Chiu-chan is Hikki does not matter much, it may be Akamatsu’s way of saying that she married Negi and became a housewife, you know not to tell the couple final…

By the way, They realize that in the cassette says World Line B … that means that the Happy End is the timeline B … but perhaps there are not 4 lienas … Original Chaos that is in complete disaster , The line where Chaos complones his plan …. the line where Asuna sleeps 100 years and finally the happy line … if this is not so, then there are only 2 temporal lemmas and this brings curious implications …

1-that the time lines are harder to create, because otherwise there would be 4 and in addition, Kirie has been creating one hundred or thousands of these …

2-time lines are as in Stain / Gate, where only a very important event can cause you to change destiny, but always will happen the same destiny …

3-There are preset events implosible to change, the case of the Mars War, in every timeline happened, even in the Happy END …

4-where Chaos comes, if there are only 2 time-lines and B is a result of her coming from A to change that … then, Chaos comes from the future of UQHolder if this is Line A … by So in this world and in the future of the series will be a Bad End … even she may be a clone too …

In matters of temporary travel each small track is important …

PS: sorry if there are errors, my language is Spanish …

It wasn’t until Akamatsu-sensei stated that Chisame was the one Negi fancied that I saw anything suggesting a romantic interest in her on his part. I still think that at the time, Negi was simply trying to draw one of his student’s out. I think Asuna was still the pairing for Negi. But then with the Magic World arc, Akamatsu-sensei radically changed direction, changing Asuna to “oneesan” status and moving Chisame up to “beloved” status.

1-that the time lines are harder to create, because otherwise there would be 4 and in addition, Kirie has been creating one hundred or thousands of these …

That’s just it — Kirie HAS been creating multiple timelines. The theory goes that for every action, there’s a timeline/universe where another action is taken. There are infinite timelines for infinite choices.

Also, we know there are more than just 2-3 timelines ’cause Eva started jumping timelines in her quest, if I recall correctly.

PS: sorry if there are errors, my language is Spanish …

Que?! 😆 Sorry. I’ve had Fawlty Towers on and Manuel’s poor English is a reoccurring joke there.. But in all seriousness, you were fine. 🙂

  15. Ste says:

The fact bthat in the last spot there is Chisame is… nothing. Only that Chisame is in the place where Negi is going.
It could be possible also that the next chapter start with Chisame that hits Negi, or Negi that asks “where is… (example) Akira?”

I don’t think that Chisame is similar to Negi (according to Asuna).

Excluding obvious charachters we have 15 students:

Madoka Kugimiya -> not fit much
Ku Fei -> fit with asuna words and she is chinese like Chao (if Chao is really related with Negi)
    Haruna Saotome -> I don’t think
    Makie Sasaki -> I don’t know
    Sakurako Shiina -> too strange
Yuna Akashi -> not fit, and too in love with her father
    Kaede Nagase -> too strange
Chizuru Naba -> she loves another kind of negi
    Satomi Hakase -> no
Chisame Hasegawa -> probably, but I don’t think
    Kazumi Asakura -> not fit
    Satsuki Yotsuba -> not fit
Ako Izumi -> probably, she was in love of the adult form of negi
Akira Okochi -> it could be, but I don’t think
    Misa Kakizaki -> not fit

So at the end: (on my opinion) it is more probably that the girl is Ku

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

Well, the spoilers do show it was Chisame. However, I could see Negi confessing to Ku.
