Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 142
Tonikaku Kawaii Fly Me to the Moon 142
トニカクカワイイ 142
Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:
Tsukasa recalls her past and how a little girl she rescued granted her wish, via the NASA (moon) program.
Meanwhile, Nasa comes home to find his lethargic wife. He tells her that the apartment landlord wants to help with the moving in a few days. Further, Nasa expresses his desire to starting the next phase of their life together. After they kiss, Nasa casually mentions their first kiss at the church, where he proposed (after their marriage).
Tsukasa is troubled by this, indicating their first kiss was before that. Nasa doesn’t remember a kiss before they got married, troubling Tsukasa more. Since Nasa isn’t one to lie, Tsukasa believes Nasa’s memory loss was due his injuries and loss of blood on the night they met.
That night, they eat together as usual, but the next morning, Nasa wakes to find Tsukasa gone.
Thoughts/Review:
Good grief, Hata-sensei! I get the sense we are being trolled again in Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 142.
Being Trolled
The ending of Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 142 is another WTF moment. But I can’t help but feel Hata-sensei is trolling us. The plot has been thick and heavy over the last three chapters and so ending this chapter with Tsukasa being gone makes me think this will be much ado about nothing. She will be working at the bathhouse as if nothing has gone wrong.
Still, I do recall that in the previous chapter, the Nasa narrator (from the future) talks about a misunderstanding between Tsukasa and Nasa. And since this manga series is based on The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter story, it isn’t out of the realm of possibility that Nasa has to go find Tsukasa, but to do so, he has to remember that missing memory.
Missing Memory
Because Nasa cannot remember a kiss that happened prior to their marriage, I decided to check back from the beginning to see if I could find some clues. Chapter 14 is where Nasa kisses Tsukasa for the first time in the manga. However, there was a single, color manga page for this chapter which had a bloodied Nasa (from the night of the accident), holding Tsukasa, and telling her he’d make her dream come true. 😮
The above scene wasn’t in chapter 2, where this should have taken place. Here’s what I think happened. Tsukasa agreed to go out with Nasa only if he married her (chapter 2). He accepted those terms, but then chapter 2 depicts him passing out. But instead, I believe Tsukasa opened up to Nasa, based not only on his acceptance of her marriage request, but also because he referenced the Kaguya-hime story.
I think she told him her whole life’s story. The result of which is the chapter 14 page above. And to keep Nasa alive, she kissed him right after this and at a minimum, transferred life energy to him. Remember in chapter 2, he was quite near death when he pursued Tsukasa out of the bus stop. And he was unconscious in the hospital for quite some time (weeks possibly). So without Tsukasa, I think Nasa would have died.
Question is, did she do more than kiss him and keep him alive?
Endless Journey
I have a theory that Nasa keeps getting reincarnated. Originally, I think he was Iwakasa, whom the Emperor had tasked to dispose of the Elixir of Immortality at what would become Mount Fuji. I suspect Tsukasa, under a different name (Mokou?) joined him in that journey. Originally, I theorized that Tsukasa killed Nasa, but I don’t think Hata-sensei would do that.
However, maybe Tsukasa was injured and dying, so Nasa gave her the elixir. Or maybe Tsukasa took it on a whim. That feels like something she’d do. Regardless of that, we know Tsukasa probably took the elixir and is an immortal. During her time on Earth, I think she continues to run into Nasa’s reincarnation. Maybe she knows him, maybe she doesn’t. Maybe he’s the one who gave her the name Tsukasa (chapter 120‘s dream memory). We just don’t know.
That aside, I believe Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 142 confirms my belief that the little girl in chapter 92 was Tokiko. It was Tokiko who eventually went to America, got involved in the NASA space program, and helped put astronauts on the moon. That would explain why she has a moon rock, which was for Tsukasa’s sake. Maybe Tokiko was trying to find Kaguya-hime for Tsukasa. There’s still so much we don’t know.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
I started reviewing Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 142 nearly 10 days ago, but if I had more points to make, I have forgotten them. 😅 As such, I’ll wrap things up by saying that Hata-sensei is laying the plot on heavy and thick, but there are still a ton of unanswered questions. And, I don’t believe for a moment that Tsukasa has actually left Nasa.
If I had the skills, I’d photoshop this microphone into a fishing rod. With Hata-sensei casting it, as Nasa clings onto the hook for dear life. And a caption of “They see me trollin’, they hatin’… 🎵” (^_~)
Tidbit I never knew, and picked up while looking for images: His wife Masumi Asano wasn’t just Risa’s seiyuu, she was also a singer and has collaborated with him on at least one side-story doujinshi. But I’m probably reading way too much into it because I was fond of Ruka.
Haha! That would be a funny image.
